i think in terms of tone (ie the mood) of the films shes done: depressing films currently outweigh ones which are a bit more uplifting?

Ammonite is no different

I'd say so. My favourite movie of hers is Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind which was a good mix of tones. It wasn't exactly light but it wasn't too heavy. And of course Titanic is up there too but obviously that one is pretty depressing.
