i have been a fan of Jude Law since Gattaca and Enemy At The Gates, so excited for Mar Vell in Captain Marvel!

thanks for the news! why can't they just say he is playing Mar Vell? i mean, who else would be her mentor? the MCU Mar Vell is obviously gonna be different from the comics one, for several reasons.

in the comics, Mar Vell was a Kree warrior assigned to a post on Earth, to help protect humanity against the Skrull invasion. Skrulls are evil shape-shifting aliens, bent on genocide and control of Earth. the Kree are not good or evil, they're just a more authoritarian warrior empire thats main mission is to wipe out the Skrulls, ny any means. alien races don't exactly view morality the same as humanity.

anyway, Mar Vell is mortally wounded in a battle and his mentoree, Carol Danvers, another member of Starforce, attempts to save him by giving him a blood transfusion with her blood mixed with Kree DNA, since he couldn't use human blood. the attempt doesn't go well, and Carol ends up with Kree DNA in her system, and shortly has Kree strength and power, and vows to avenge her Mentor, staying with Starforce. she eventually ends up as leader of S.W.O.R.D. the off-earth agency of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Jude Law as Mar Vell, would only happen if the movie writers decide not to do that storyline and give her power another way, the Quantum Realm perhaps. Captain Marvel already has her powers in CM, it's not an origin film, according to EW. so they must be doing Mar Vell as another version just for the MCU.

ah okay in a way a bit of a shame that they're not doing an origin film.. Especially for movie not that familiair with the character in the comic books!

i think they were going to show her origin in the Guardians Volume 3, which was supposed to be the film that opened up the whole Marvel Cosmic Universe for the next ten years or more. Captain Marvel in the MCU, kinda comes from this side of the universe, where you have Kronos The Timekeeper, Eternity, The Living Tribunal, The Celestials, The Eternals, The Watcher, Beyonder, Galactus The World Devourer, Nova, Quasar, Adam Warlock, and Silver Surfer. unfortunately GOTG3 is now indefinitely delayed for production, and now the mouse is doing Avengers 4 reshoots because of this GOTG3 mess, which could have changes to the MCU version of Captain Marvel and Mar Vell. smh.

gosh that's complicated that all those movies affect each other so easily when one has production delay.
