They starred in the biggest British movie of last year as young lovers building up to their wedding.

And last night Mamma Mia! stars Dominic Cooper and Amanda Seyfried were caught indulging in some heavy petting at Mahiki nightclub in Mayfair.

History Boys star Dominic and Mean Girls actress Amanda were engaged to be married in the hit musical film - which practically everyone in the country got for Christmas on DVD.

But Dominic was 12 years into a real-life relationship with late playwright Harold Pinter's PA Joanna Carolan, while Amanda had been dating actor Jesse Marchant when they started filming together.

A spy in the club said: 'They really were all over each other, sharing a Treasure Chest [Mahiki's signature cocktail].

'They were kissing and holding hands, and being very tactile with each other.

'They were sat next to each other on a table of about 15 people, including actress Ashley Lilley, and looked very at home together.'The Duchess star Dominic, 30, arrived with 23-year-old Amanda and stayed until the club closed at 3am.

In an interview last June, Amanda admitted she had a romantic relationship with Dominic during filming in 2007, but they weren't together by the time the film was released.

She told the Mail on Sunday's You magazine: 'I just found him funny and it was like we were the same person - except that he’s British, almost 30 and a man! We both look like frogs with our wide-set eyes, we’re both indecisive and neither of us has a lot of willpower.'

Amanda was suffering relationship problems with Jesse when she fell for Dominic.

She said: 'Jesse was so special and being with him had such a profound effect on me, but the timing wasn’t right. I didn’t want him to be unhappy or have to deal with it (celebrity), and so it was me who ended it.

'The fact that I felt something in my heart for [Dominic] made me feel that something was definitely wrong – I sat and thought about it for weeks... We just spent time together and it was something nice.'

When asked if Dominic was still with Joanna, Amanda said: 'Not really…sort of. I shouldn’t talk about it really because I don’t even know. But you know, it was 12 years; he’ll probably end up with her. He’s my best friend and I want nothing but the best for him.'

Speaking of his break-up with Joanne last September, Dominic said: 'We're no longer together and that is probably because I've spent too many hours concentrating on my career. It's very tough on a relationship.'

I would have never thought they were together off-screen as well. Though their chemistry in Mamma Mia! was so obvious... I should've known.

I've been greatly infatuated with both of them since Mamma Mia!. Their characters were so in love in it. The love and the adorable atmosphere in the movie was totally over-whelming, and both Amanda and Dominic did a tremendous, out-standing job in it.

EDIT: Just a couple of goodies I thought I'd share. Plus, am I the only one who thinks they should've definitely kept the deleted Sophie/Sky scenes? They were adorable.

The first deleted scene was beyond hot. They were smokin their butts off!
And Dominic sure has a nice body...

I have no idea why on Earth did they decide to remove that amazing, extended LAYLOM scene!
I just loved the whole movement they had there: the dancing, the singing, the way you could see how much connection and attraction there really is between them.

LAYLOM is without a doubt the hottest scene in the movie.
I've choose Dominic over anyone, he's my number one.

No doubt about it. My mind got blow away when I first saw it. I went all like "Is that even possible, to make one music number as hot and steamy as that one?".

It just makes me extremely sad, that Phyllida Lloyd and the rest of the production crew decided to cut-off so much potential Sky/Sophie material. They should've kept the extended LAYLOM scene (where the Stags crash in and the music stops for awhile, and they discuss with Sky about how the groom is supposed to dive into the sea and look for the treasures of Helen of Troy and shower his bride with gold; and where they continue to sing the "I've had a few little love affairs" & "I used to think that was sensible, it makes the truth even more incomprehensible.")

Also, the another deleted scene of Sky and Sophie was drop-dead cute, I wish they would've keep them all.

I'm glad they exist in the extras, though.
