I'd agree she's definitely excited to be back in the swing of recording and performing again, Ellie. I finally finished d/ling the ACA interview late last night, and my heart just melted when she said she got nervous performing for the athletes 'cause she was in awe of their talent. She's almost completely oblivious to how awestruck everyone was of her, both up onstage, and as she was walking out (one of the athletes asking her back for one more photo mid-interview ).

I definitely thought it was odd so many people were seated during the anthem. It's as customary to stand for it at sports events or functions as it is at formal occasions. It must have been a view related issue. I just can't imagine someone coming out and saying, "now, we'll be seated for the national anthem". But oh, well.
Oh I know what you mean! She's so modest and so sweet, she's in awe of everyone else and yet, we're all totally awestruck with her. Even the country's top athletes are!

Yeah, just something I thougt was odd while I was watching!

Wow. She went to hospital? And she looked fine in the performance. She sure is good at hiding it. Well, I do hope she doesn't over do herself anymore. It'll be so bad for her. Thanks for the articles Ellie.
Yeah, she's definitely a battler, Roxy. It's sweet of her to battle on and carry on with the performance even though she wasn't feeling well. She really didn't want to disappoint anyone and that I love about her.

Oh poor Delta . I just saw a snippet of her on the newsbreak. They seemed to make her condition look rather severe, being lowered in a chair lift out a van as if she could not walk . I'm glad to hear though that it was nothing too serious and she's back resting in her hotel .

Thanks for the link Kat. I've been so busy lately, and have missed all her recent telly appearances . The white dress she wore at the Aussie Athens function is gorgeous. Very reminiscent of a Greek goddess . It's nice to see she's slowly pulling away from her flowy lacey tops .

Mucho thanks everyone for the photos and news articles. I've been totally outta the Delta loop lately, and this thread is a great for all the lastest Delta goss.

Delta 'embarrassed' by attention
By Jordan Baker and Darren Walton
August 13, 2004

DELTA Goodrem was embarrassed about the publicity surrounding her admission to hospital in Athens and hoped attention would return to Australia's Olympic athletes, her spokeswoman said today.

The singer was struck down with a low-grade fever on Wednesday just hours after performing for the Australian Olympians at a team reception.

She was admitted to hospital as a precaution because of her recent battle with Hodgkin's disease, a type of cancer, and returned to the Hilton Hotel yesterday afternoon in a wheelchair.

Goodrem's boyfriend Mark Philippoussis, who was taken to her bedside yesterday by motor racing legend and athlete liaison officer Peter Brock, said today he expected the 19-year-old to recover quickly.

"Everything's good, she's fine, she's a little tired that's all," Philippoussis said after a practice session at the Olympic tennis stadium.

"She'll recover in a few days."

While Philippoussis was to march in the opening ceremony, he was unsure whether Goodrem would be watching from the stands.

"It will depend on how she feels," he said.

A spokeswoman for Goodrem's record company Sony said the Logie winner was embarrassed about the publicity surrounding her hospital admission, which made headlines and diverted much of Australia's attention from the Games.

"She's over there for the athletes and that was her main concern, she hopes all the media attention will turn to them more than her," the spokeswoman said.

Goodrem arrived in Athens on Tuesday from London, where she is working on another album, and is expected to return there on Sunday.

She was not planning on staying to support Philippoussis throughout his Olympic campaign, the spokeswoman said.

After singing the national anthem for the team on Wednesday night, Goodrem wished Australian athletes good luck for the Games and spoke of her excitement at performing for them.

"To be here on behalf of the country and singing the national anthem and singing in front of the team, I'm so thrilled," Goodrem said.

Goodrem was in Athens as an official guest of the Australian Olympic Committee.

Hell, I'd be embarrassed too. Looking at the newpaper covers that came out today, you'd think she was dying.

I do love the Mark/Delta photo though.

Haha! I just downloaded Delta and Mark's footy show appearance (back at Logies time) and it's hilarious! Hehe, I love the bit where the Biff asks them if he's good looking and Delt's is leaning on his shoulder. And the bit where he yells at Mark making sure he's looking after her..

Kat, oh, I thought you were just very observant. I guess the purple was to offset her pale clothes. I mean, she used to wear dark colours and had those light colour nails. Wow. That girl definitely knows how to dress and coordinate.
Yeah, she is good as hiding it. It's not the first time she's put on a brave face while performing either. It came out after her Ch [V] performance last year that she felt fluey. You'd never guess it from the footage though. She has amazing endurance and just gets on with it.

I try to be. Yeah, that's right. The colour combo worked very well, and the purple definitely stood out nicely against the stark white. Ha, she does. Doesn't put a foot wrong, as we've said numerous times on this thread before.

That's right. Her humble modesty never ceases to amaze me like that. She should feel very proud of it too.

I love that stubborness in her too, even if it gets the better of her sometimes! Her determination not to let people down in a rare quality in a person.

Great to have you drop in again, Grace!
Yes, I was saying earlier how that annoyed me. They go and make Delta look attention-seeking. No wonder she wants to conceal signs of beeing ill all the time - she's trying her darndest to avoid the attention!

You're very welcome! I'm loving that site right now too - it's so up to date and everything's there. Yes, it was very much like the dress of a Greek goddess, the way it draped at the sides!

Thanks for the article, Ellie. I'm pleased Delta spoke out about her distaste for the media hype. They do more harm than good most of the time!

I hope that she's feeling better now.

I finally saw the BTT video on MuchMoreMusic the other day. I was so happy about that.

Those are really nice pictures!

I knoooow, they're so dramatic! Poor girl, I'm not surprised she's a bit embarrassed about it!

Yeah, and she's pretty amazing to keep with it, to please her fans, make everyone happy. She's such a doll!

And you're right, it's a good quality to have and sometimes you don't see a lot of it in people these days.
