Biography

Cillian Murphy (Born May 25, 1976 in Douglas, Cork, Ireland) is an Irish actor and musician. Cillian is an Irish name and is also sometimes spelled Killian; both spellings are pronounced "Kil ee an".

Murphy studied law in University College Cork. Initially his interest in performing was led by music, he played guitar with a Frank Zappa influenced band called Sons of Mr. Greengenes. However by the time he left college his primary interest was in acting. His first major role was in the UCC Drama Society production of Observe The Sons of Ulster Marching Towards The Somme and he went on the appear on stage in Disco Pigs. After touring with Disco Pigs in London, Edinburgh and Cork he left UCC without graduating.

Disco Pigs was Murphy's first big break into movies. He was cast in the central role of Pig in Corcadorca's 1996 production of Enda Walsh's original play and he later reprised that role for the 2001 feature film version by Kirsten Sheridan. However it wasn't until Danny Boyle's 28 Days Later became 2003's sleeper hit in the USA that the bigger studios and directors started to take notice.

In recent years he has had smaller parts in such Hollywood films as Girl with a Pearl Earring and Cold Mountain. His role as The Scarecrow in Batman Begins (released June 15th 2005) may prove to be more high profile.

He currently resides in North London.

Murphy married his long term girlfriend, Yvonne, in August 2004.

I read in some mag (???) that Cillian thinks no one will want to sit near him on a plane anymore. So that's where the title came from.

Yeah I think many people are taking notice of him due to Red Eye and that's a good thing. But I'm also glad their seeing his earlier films like Intermission and 28 Days Later showing his real talent and variation. I'm so excited for his upcoming film Breakfast on Pluto.

I agree the film is going to show people how much of a talented actor he is.

Does that mean 28 Days Later was the first Cillian film you watched? He is a great director, I think he launched Ewan's career to in the film A Life Less Ordinary. That was also a really good film.

yea 28 Days Later is the first time I ever saw Cillian. My mom's scared of him cause the first Cillian film she saw was BB. (actually CM, but she didn't remember him). I told her if she saw 28 Days Later first, she wouldn't be scared of him. Who knows, maybe if I did see BB or Red-eye first he would've creeped me out, but since I saw him as the good guy first, he's not scary to me.

Ewan is my fav actor. But it was Trainspotting, not ALLO that got him noticed. He was brilliant in both films, though. And Shallow Grave which is another Danny movie. His performance stole the whole film.

It would be cool if Cillian got awards recognition for Breakfast. Or is that movie too out there for awards recognition?

Well I watched 28 days later and I forgot that he was totally nude in the opening part, I was like " Well hello there naked Cillian" I love when he shaves and comes with a new haircut and he looks all yummy! If I was that girl, I would make out with him also!

Hey guys. Just wanted to comment on how nice those wallpapers are. I have yet to see Red Eye and the movie theater at my university doesn't have it so I'm bumming out. Guess I'll have to wait for it to come out on dvd.

I also love when Jim shaves and changes his hair. That's the hottest Cillian has looked so far imo. I just love his hair like that.

I love Shallow Grave but I haven't seen Trainspotting yet so I can't really comment on Ewan in that role.

I agree Cillian's hair was at a perfect length and looked so good on him in 28 Days Later, though I'm a sucker for his long hair in Batman Begins and Red Eye And I agree if Cillian wants to do more nude scenes we would never stop him

My least fav Cillian hair is Girl With A Pearl Earring. He didn't look horrible, but I just couldn't get into the long hair.
