CHERYL Cole, a judge on Simon Cowell's British series, "X Factor," is the favorite to replace Cowell when he leaves the top-rated show.

Cowell says he's leaving the show, which airs on Britain's ITV, after its next season to focus on the new international TV and entertainment company he's setting up with British business tycoon Sir Philip Green.

Cole, 26, is Cowell's choice to replace him as the show's main face, according to The Daily Mirror's Web site, mirror.co.uk.

Cole is a founding member of the pop group Girls Aloud, which has had 21 Top 10 hits in the UK.

She joined "X Factor" last year as a judge, replacing Sharon Osbourne.

Cole is married to British soccer star Ashley Cole.

"X Factor," which airs on ITV, is the network's top-rated show, regularly averaging 15 million viewers.

Cowell also created "Britain's Got Talent," which spawned NBC's successful US version, "America's Got Talent" (executive-produced by Cowell) and made headlines this spring with the emergence of Internet sensation Susan Boyle.

Osbourne, after leaving "X Factor," remains as a judge on "America's Got Talent."

Now the Post is a pretty crappy paper but it just surprised me that they'd post something Cheryl related when not many ppl know who she is here in the US. MAYBE it really is true she's coming to the States? IDK. I'm still waiting for confirmation.

I really have decided I don't want her to come here to the US for the simple fact that I'd hate it eternally for her to get as brutalized in the American press as she was in the British press over the yrs. Also, I don't want her to get overexposed. I adore her but I'd hate to see her get hated on =[
