ET has confirmed that Hollywood super couple BRAD PITT and JENNIFER ANISTON have announced that they are separating.

"We would like to announce that after seven years together we have decided to formally separate," Brad and Jen said in a statement posted on People.com. "For those who follow these sorts of things, we would like to explain that our separation is not the result of any of the speculation reported by the tabloid media. This decision is the result of much thoughtful consideration. We happily remain committed and caring friends with great love and admiration for one another. We ask in advance for your kindness and sensitivity in the coming months."

Just recently Jen was photographed without her wedding ring and the tabloids ran rampant that the couple was having marital troubles. However, just this New Year's, Brad and Jen were spotted vacationing on the beautiful Caribbean island of Anguilla with "Friends" pal COURTENEY COX and her hubby DAVID ARQUETTE.

The former couple were married on July 29, 2000 in a lavish Malibu, CA, ceremony in front of family, friends and many of Hollywood's elite. The two actors have been extremely busy working on individual projects and have spent a lot of time apart recently as Jen worked on such films as 'Along Came Polly' and the upcoming 'Rumor Has It' with KEVIN COSTNER and Brad worked on such films as 'Troy,' 'Ocean's Twelve' and the upcoming 'Mr. and Mrs. Smith' with ANGELINA JOLIE.

i'm so sad..they were the perfect couple and if they can't make it, there's no hope for anyone! I really think it was the whole working too much thing. They needed to concentrate on being closer together and starting a family! it reminds me of Rebecca Romijn and John Stamos....he wanted a family and she just wanted to work and make movies. So, so sad.

Well, I've already said this in General Discusion, but I'll say it again. Brad and Jennifer were one of my favorite couples and I'm really sorry their relationship ended that way.

I'm surprise, I really didn't see this coming. I heard there was problems but I assumed that was the tabloids making it up. I guess not.

Exactly whatI thought. Brad and Jen is the one couple that I'm rooting not to split. I thought it'll at least be like Nicole and Tom, you know after a decade not 4 years. 4 years doesn't say anything about their effort to stay together. Well maybe it does but I don't know that.

Yup, really didnt think it would happen between these two -

I cant believe this!! i saw it on E new Flash and i was in shock

i told my mom and she was like Omg but they were the perfect couple!! i cant belive this those two were so amazing together!! i keep thinking at the bak of my mind theyll get bak together!! to be honest i blame the media id like to see someone taking pictures of there family 24/7!
It sooo not fair!!! Being under the microscope i guess was just too much!!!

I was surprised to hear this too, after the whole tabloid thing. I was sure that nothing would ever stop these too. I thought they would go out and have beautiful incredible babies. There is still hope, they are separated maybe they will find each other again. But after John Stamos and Rebecca Romain like someone else said, and Nicole and Tom - I guess Hollywood Love is just too over-rated. It's so sad.

I feel kind of weird after reading this article given the fact that Jennifer and Brad have been married for almost 5 years and Nick and Jessica haven't even gotten to there 3 year mark.

Jessica Simpson and her husband Nick Lachey said the feel sympathy for Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston, who are calling it quits.

Simpson and Lachey have opened up their marriage to cameras, and in fact won the people's Choice Award for Favorite Reality Show 24-seven, for their series "Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica."

Backstage, the couple told reporters that kind of public scrutiny puts pressure on a relationship, and a strain on your life -- especially when so much of what's said is untrue. But Lachey said Pitt and Aniston need to learn to have "tough skin and let it roll right off." Pitt's longtime publicist has confirmed over the weekend that Pitt and Aniston have separated.

A joint statement released by Pitt's publicist Cindy Guagenti Read, "We would like to announce that after seven years together we have decided to formally separate. For those who follow these sorts of things, we would like to explain that our separation is not the result of any speculation reported by the tabloid media. This decision is the result of much thoughtful consideration."

The couple didn't indicate if they planned to file for divorce, and Guagenti declined to comment beyond the statement.

The separation comes four-and-a-half years after the couple's lavish Malibu wedding and after months of speculation that their marriage was in trouble.
