Heralded as the next Orlando Bloom, Ben (Benjamin) Barnes is the multi-talented English actor who is best known for his portrayal as Prince Caspian in the Chronicles of Narnia film series, based upon the bestselling books written by C.S. Lewis. Although his major success as Prince Caspian has been recent, Ben is no stranger to the entertainment industry.

Though he'd probably prefer steering clear of this information in interviews, Ben was also briefly a member of the boyband Hyrise, competing to represent Britain in Eurovision 2004. As Ben remarks, his pop career lasted "about four and a half minutes" until he decided to quit the group. Looking back on the experience now, he states "I am thrilled we didn't win. Otherwise there is a small chance that I would not be sitting here."

Ben's interest in singing eventually gave way to his larger interest and love for acting. He says he first realized he wanted to be an actor around the age of sixteen when he began taking part in school plays. Ben was a part of the National Theatre's production of 'The History Boys' when he was approached to audition for the role of Prince Caspian. Upon finding out he had won the part, Ben had to make the tough decision of leaving the Theatre.

However, without any regrets, he claims that getting the part of Caspian was "a dream come true...just one of those life-changing moments". Despite the enormous sucess following the release of the latest Narnia film and the raving reviews, Ben humbly insists that "to be a working actor at this point is just a tremendous privilege."

Ben Barnes is a hardworking, genuine, down-to-earth actor who is finally starting to get the worldwide recognition he deserves. We continue to look forward to seeing the diverse roles Ben will take on in the future and welcome any new fans to come and join our discussion!

Trivia & Random Ben Facts:
  • He was born on August 20, 1981 in London, England.
  • Ben's parents are both in the field of psychology: his father's a psychiatrist and his mother's a therapist.
  • His mother is of half Afro-Caribbean/half English descent and his father is of English, Welsh and German descent.
  • Has a brother named Jack who is three years younger than him.
  • He studied Drama and English literature at Kingston University in London (specializing in Children's Literature), graduated in 2004.
  • Can sing, play the piano and the drums.
  • Musical favourites include: Queen, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, and Arctic Monkeys.
  • Says the film 'Spartacus' had the most impact on him, making him cry for three days.
  • Lists Jeff Bridges, Johnny Depp and Jimmy Stewart as actors he admires.
  • Ben was breifly a part of the British boyband Hyrise, you can watch a video clip of them performing their song "Leading Me On" here!
  • The various acting projects Ben has engaged in have required diverse accents.
  • Ben perfected his Spanish accent for Prince Caspian by watching Inigo Montoya in The Princess Bride.
  • Has been a member of the National Youth Music Theatre, 1997-2003.
  • Ben got involved with the Prince Caspian film when a casting agent saw him in 'The History Boys'and told him to audition for the part.
  • The role of Prince Caspian required Ben to take horseback riding lessons, dialect training, fencing and stunt practices.
  • He got the part to play a Los Angeles lifeguard for a television pilot that was never picked up.
  • Is a fan of the TV show 'Entourage', says he loves it and has learned a lot from it since it hits home.

Quotes:
On finding out that he had gotten the role of Prince Caspian:"It was 3am and I was at home. I ran around my house screaming. It was like winning the FA Cup. It was too late to get a drink and I could not phone anyone, so I just ran around."

On the Narnia films: "It feels awesome to be part of telling a story to a new generation and make them experience the same magic that I experienced when I was younger. Even though the story of Narnia takes place in a fantasy world, you have to play every moment as truth. I hope those moments translate into something that the audience can really become involved with."

On the future: "I’ve been very lucky so far in terms of variety of roles and of playing different characters telling different types of stories and working in different accents. I hope to continue doing the same thing.”

On being compared to other big-name actors: "People feel the need to do that for the first six months or a year that you're on the scene because it allows people to attempt to pigeonhole. It kind of goes away as soon as you establish yourself. It will be three months before someone is the next Ben Barnes - I hope, anyway."

On the first time that he found out he'd gotten a big role: "I was in LA driving and I got a call saying I got a pilot I'd auditioned for and a part in Stardust. I was so excited, five minutes later, I crashed. I was so overexcited I went speeding into the back of another car. I tried explaining to them, but they were not particularly sympathetic because almost everyone in LA is an actor and wants those jobs."

Narnia producer Mark Johnson on Ben: "[Ben's] like a movie star in the old tradition - he's tremendously good-looking and has a real intensity and charisma about him."

One way or another I'll find it, I've seen a few YT clips, it looks amusing.

Quote:
Narnia prince is heir to Orlando Bloom's throne
Jun 13 2008
Source

HE'S THE young Englishman who could become B. B. King II.

Ben Barnes is his name. And, whether this Prince Charming is ready for it or not, he's suddenly become movie royalty.

A National Theatre actor who can play the drums and piano, he's devilishly handsome with a perfect smile, hair to die for and brown, serpentine eyes that every Bollywood queen would adore.

He's come from nowhere to play the title role in this month's new C S Lewis blockbuster sequel, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.

From obscurity to international stardom in just 12 months is going to take some getting used to.

But if anyone can handle it, Ben can since he's from a close family led by a father who's a professor of psychiatry and a psychotherapist mother.

A year ago, the 26-year-old star was at the Birmingham Rep for three weeks launching The History Boys.

He worked so hard he can hardly remember anything about his time here - save for an acquired fondness of curries.

Ben also starred in an episode of Doctors (2006) and had a small role in last year's fantasy hit, Stardust, starring Emma Thompson and Michelle Pfeiffer.

But, with a film version of Noel Coward's Easy Virtue already in the can and another Narnia movie due to start filming in October after he's shot a new Dorian Gray movie during the summer, Ben is now being touted as 'the next Orlando Bloom'.

As ever, though, he's not quite the 'overnight' success.

"I've been working quite hard at this now for ten years," he says modestly.

"I've failed lots of auditions and it can take two weeks to get over them, like a grieving period. But I was told if I kept consistently nearly getting there then it was only a matter of time.

"It got to the point with Prince Caspian that the director Andrew Adamson told me that he was going to pick the next person who walked through the door - and that was me."

Ben had loved the Narnia books as an eight-year-old, returning to them on a different level as a Kingston University student in London.

The thing that surprised him about Narnia was that he was on the go for seven months non-stop, filming in New Zealand, Prague, Slovakia and Poland.

And it's not over yet.

As we chat at Wednesday's opening of Disney's Prince Caspian Garden at the BBC Gardeners' World Live show at the NEC, he says: "I've been up since 3am today so I'm not sure what time zone I'm in.

"When we were filming I never got enough sleep. We'd be shooting in the day and then again at night when it was magical.

"After a busy weekend, I'd try to sleep through Monday ready to work at night... and I'd be the one they'd have to come knocking for."

Throughout the Narnia shoot, Ben never once fell off a horse, but he did just that on the first day of Easy Virtue, much to Australian director Stephan Elliott's annoyance!

As he prepares for what he calls 'London's biggest-ever film premiere' on June 19, Ben has already got the experience of launches in the US and Japan to fall back on.

"I got to meet Liam Neeson (the voice of Aslan) in New York and he was terrific," smiles Ben.

"And, in Japan, there were 200 girls waiting for me with their phone cameras... just what you need after a 12-hour flight!"

Jack Nicholson once told me it was possible for any actor to walk the streets unnnoticed if they wanted to, so I passed on the tip.

Ben is busy replying: "I guess you have to take the good (parts of fame) with the bad..." when he feels his phone going off in his pocket.

He shows me the screen - which is flashing a message from his Easy Virtue co-star Colin Firth.

"He's my new 'go to person' to whom I can say 'what do you do if this happens'!" says Ben, proudly.

Hobbies are slight. "I always wish I could say I do something spectacular like rock climbing but I just like going to the pub with friends," he laughs.

"I can't remember the first film I ever saw, but my dad taught me to love films by introducing me to movies like This Is Spinal Tap.

"I might never have seen it otherwise, and it's still my favourite.

"My parents were always quite strict about what I could see, so I had to wait until I was 14/15 before I could see any 15s, for example.

"I remember seeing Spartacus when I was too young to deal with it."

Who might appeal as a potential future co-star?

"I really like Robert Downey Jr and I met him last week, so I'd like to be Iron Boy!" he grins.

Judging by the posters of sword-wielding Ben in Prince Caspian, which will thankfully only be a PG, Ben is already a man of metal.

It felt remiss not to broach Britain's trickiest subject at this point - the out-of-control knife crime spiral.

As someone who could be a great role model for Britain's youngsters, what would he do about the greatest blight affecting his generation - especially following the death of forthcoming Harry Potter star Robert Knox?

It's a totally unfair question, a) because Ben is not a politician and, b) having been abroad for three months, he didn't know about 18-year-old Robert's tragic demise while trying to save his brother from a knife attack.

Ben is, quite literally, struck dumb by the enormity and the madness of it all.

Finally breaking his heartfelt silence, he says: "You've set me on edge."

From a personal point of view, I regret spoiling his day.

I wish Ben well and leave behind a well-bred young man who'd been delighting in the innocence of finding his feet in such a tough industry.

Of being given the chance to keep his Gucci jacket that hadn't cost him a penny.

Of suddenly becoming a heartthrob for young women the world over...

Oh, by the way girls, he did reveal that there already is a Mrs Barnes: "My mum."

* The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (PG) will be released on June 26, with The Voyage of the Dawn Treader already slated for release in May, 2010.

Hey ladies!

Sorry I haven't been around in a while. It's normal for me, trust me. My Zikki peeps are used to it. Right, Sasha?

RL has just been keeping me from coming here to share my love for Ben.

Anyway, enough whining. That last interview posted is so cool. He wants to be Iron Boy!!! He's such a goofball!! Adorkable! Totally adorkable!! My respects to Ben for admiring Robert Downey, Jr. He is an amazing actor indeed!

I can only imagine how much fun the people working on Narnia had waking him up. I hope some of that is on the DVD extras. Can't wait!

I would love to go to the pub with him just to hang out. I think he'd be a lot of fun as a date. Karaoke, perhaps?

And...he was set on edge by the interviewer. Poor Ben. That was a tragic thing that happened to the Harry Potter actor, though. So young.

Anyway, here is some pretty:

Ben in bed with those sexy bedroom eyes of his. Oh my thoughts have gone to the gutter for sure!

I LOVE the smile:

And those devilish, serpentine eyes that not only Bollywood queens would adore, but a humble girl from Texas as well :

And to end it with a bang , the TONGUE action:

Enjoy!! All compliments of PB.
