Anne Hathaway

Any Anne Hathaway fans out there? Since Princess Diaries 2: The Royal Engagement is coming out I'd like to check if there are any Anne fans.

I think Anne's adorable.

Since PD2 is called the Royal Engagement, I wonder if the Royal Wedding will be next summer

Everyone is saying that she's adorable, but that exactly what it is. She has a graceful girl next door quality about her. I can't wait to hear more about her up incoming movie Havoc. From the little premise that I read about the movie sounds wonderful. The type of "awaking" movie for kids who think that being in a gang would be cool or fun.

I like her, but I'd love to see her do more edgy roles than just PG princess kiddie fare. I'll still be seeing PD2, but I think she's got the chops to branch out a little and challenge herself.

Toronto Star - August 12, 2004

Screen princess hath a way about her

Diaries star got itch to act as early as grade school
Talented, pretty: `She won genetic lottery, I guess'

SEAN DALY
SPECIAL TO THE STAR

It wasn't the pressure of living up to her previous box office success that made Anne Hathaway most nervous about showing up to work on Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement. "It was the big guy with the gun that was following me around," the 21-year-old brunette says.

Yes, security was tight on the set of director Garry Marshall's sequel to the 2001 family hit that grossed more than $120 million (U.S.). And for good reason: all the jewels worn by Princess Mia Thermopolis (Hathaway) and Queen Clarisse (Julie Andrews) were real and on loan from Swiss jeweller Chopard. That includes a $3 million necklace that Sharon Osbourne wore to last year's Oscar ceremony and the custom-made 3-karat cushion cut diamond engagement ring that Chopard reps describe as "priceless."

"I wasn't allowed to keep anything," Hathaway laments. Not even the costumes. "Disney has a policy about that, just in case they might want to put it on display one day at Euro-Disney or something."

At least she can take home the memory of hearing Andrews sing live for the first time since a botched surgery damaged her vocal chords in 1998.

The performance — a duet of "Your Crowning Glory" with former Cosby kid Raven Simone — is featured during a slumber party scene.

"I remember I wasn't feeling very well that day and then Julie started singing and all of a sudden energy levels soared," a smiling Hathaway recalls. "The entire crew was in tears; 300-pound grips sniffling ... I felt especially special because I was the girl she was singing to.

"In the movie (which opened yesterday in Toronto), Princess Mia is about to become Queen of Genovia when she discovers a law stating that she must first be married. And the search for a royal spouse is on.

"When the idea for a sequel came up, I was a little cynical about people's motivations behind it," Hathaway admits. "I thought, `I hope they don't just try to make a quick buck off of this.'"

But before long, the Brooklyn-born actress was singing a different tune. Literally.

"We kept singing Maroon 5 songs ("This Love," etc.) every time we got together on set," Simone said. "We love them."

Hathaway, who shares her first and last name with William Shakespeare's wife, is no rookie vocalist. In 1999, the 5-foot-8 soprano travelled from her family's home in Millburn, N.J. to New York City, where she performed in two concerts at Carnegie Hall as part of the All Eastern U.S. High School Honors Chorus.

"Annie does have a great voice," Andrews confirms. "She could even do a musical."

Or perhaps become a rock star. "When I am old and purple, I will start a band," she said with a laugh.

In the meantime, Hathaway, a vegetarian and former high school athlete, is still several semesters shy of a degree in English from Vassar College. She made the dean's honour roll during her freshman year, but may now transfer to a school in New York City next spring.

"I figure if I can get a semester done each year, it will take me five years to graduate."

The second of three children born to a lawyer and a former stage actress, Hathaway longed to audition for plays as early as grade school.

"But my parents said, `You're going to have a childhood,'" she said.

They eventually gave in when she landed the role of brainy teen Meghan Green on the short-lived TV drama Get Real in 1999.

"They showed me a clip of her and she was crying the whole show. It was somebody in the show that convinced me she was funny," director Marshall said.

Not that he didn't immediately recognize her other star qualities: "This kid just has it. She's a pretty girl. She's got great eyes and a good smile, just like Julia Roberts. She won the genetic lottery, I guess."

That sometimes makes it difficult for Hathaway to go unrecognized at shopping malls or family restaurants.

"Usually there are people coming up to me telling me how much they love my work," she said. "Usually it is kids asking for hugs. Life doesn't get much cuter than that."

But what will happen to her wholesome image after a brief nude scene in the upcoming drama Havoc?

"People have me pegged in a certain way and I have a lot of conservative fans who will probably be mildly offended," she told CosmoGIRL magazine in April.

"But ultimately, it'll make people rethink me a bit."

Awwh, all the avis are so cute! Excellent job! Lord, I sound like a teacher! Blah! lol

I think Anne Hathaway is really beautiful. She seems so natural. I caught her appearance on Live Regis & Kelly and she was so down-to-earth..

I agree that she needs to take a role that portrays a more edgy character. She's a great actress, and I hope she sticks around.

I guess Anne is really making the rounds I saw her last Tuesday night on "Conan O'Brien" (August 10th) and on Comedy Central's "The Graham Norton Effect" on Thursday August 12th (Which BTW repeats a lot so you might still be able to catch it/I saw it Saterday night and it is on again Monday night 8/16/04) Anne was a riot up against Graham. I mean Anne is so sweet that I thought she would have turned a nice shade of crimson for the whole show but she held her own. Graham Norton BTW and in case you dont know is a in-your-face lewd man-child who you just cannot help laughing at in spite of yourself.

Any how I loved her since PD1. I have not seen PD2 yet but last year I did see Anne in the star-studded independent production of Nicholas Nickleby

And these are a little big so they are linked
The Proposal
The Marriage

Actually, I'm always starting a thread for Anne before but no one is posting so the thread usually disappears.

Nicholas Nickleby wasn't released here in our country.

I don't actually come to the Female Celebrities Board a lot, so I've never seen this thread before. But, hopefully this time, it'll keep on going!
