Hmmm... I think actually, if there's someone who could understand what Sam is going through right now - it's Mary. He needs compassion and he's not getting any. Sam is the more emotional brother. He had the faith, the belief in natural good in people, he's younger. Maybe Dean nor John can understand him because they may both just want to protect him.
Mary on the other hand can deal with the emotional side of protecting him. She's a mother and nothing beat the tie that binds a son to her mother.

The more I think about it, the more I realize this is a great idea. Mary would not judge or reject him, more so than she knows why he's the way he is. She deeply knows that it is not his fault, she could talk sense into him without further damaging him.

Like her, all he wanted was a normal life, go to school, get married, etc, but now he's target practice for supernatural beings. All things she lived through.

She would so understand.

I agree, I think that it will be such a powerful scene because Mary is someone who could understand Sam. A mother's tie to a son is very strong and I think that Mary would really be able to comfort Sam, and try to understand him on a more emotional level. Dean and John are more closed-off emotionally, they are focus more on the physical sense of protecting him.

That's so true. Mary and Sam are more emotional and could understand each other better plus she's the one that made the deal that caused Sam to have the demon blood in him so if anyone could help Sam come to terms with that at all it would be her

good point, and I think Mary would at least like to help Sam cope with that, even if Sam doesn't fully know that it was Mary's fault, but I think in a way, maybe Mary would like to try to make amends

I keep forgetting that Sam doesn't know the full scope of his own history. Mary would be the perfect messenger!

Plus, seriously, this kid need a mother. At least for a moment. He didn't even know her when she was alive because he was a baby. I think Sam has to meet his mom who died the same way and for the same reason the other important woman in his life died.

Ya I hate that Sam doesn't know the full story even though Dean does. Sam has a right to know and it would be best if it was coming from Mary. Because that way she can really explain why she did it and what happened and maybe make amends for everything. It would be just so amazing to see.

I hope this storylines gets picked up again in the second half of S4.

It was already lost during S3 because of the strike, so I hope S4 can at least give us closure.
