10 things we love about Jared

1. He's good to his dogs
In fact, Jared refuses to fly them from his home in LA to Vancouver, Canada, where Supernatural shoots.
"I have a friend who's a pilot and he said if you don't have them in the cabin with you, don't fly with dogs because I think 5000 dogs a year die [in the hold on planes]. Its only a three-hour flight but I still drive them. I have a truck and I just drive up with them, stop, play ball..." Lucky dogs!

2. He loves Australia
While making two movies here, Jared(who plays Sam Winchester), was struck by the locals' relaxed attitude to celebrities.
"I'd be at a bar and someone would go, 'Hey, aren't you in that show?' I'd say yes and they'd be like, 'Cool. You want to play rugby tomorrow?' One time, this guy asked me what I was doing. I told him I was filming a movie and he just said, 'Really? OK. Here, have a drink. Have a good time in Australia.'"

3. He remembers where he started
A lot of actors try to distance themselves from their earlier roles, but Jared, 26, has great respect for the show that launched his career.
"Gilmore Girls was a great show and I'm very proud of it and my work on it [as Dean Forrester]. I stay in touch with Chad [Michael Murray, who played Tristin Dugray]. We both started on Gilmore Girls and we go play basketball and football and watch the games. We both have dogs and we'll be like, 'Hey man, I'm going to get my dog out' and we'll go throw a ball or something."

4. He's gracious in defeat
Jared came very close to scoring the lead role in Superman Returns, but he only have praise for the man who beat him to it.
"It's a character I would have loved to have played, but I thought Brandon Routh did a great job-he was the right man for it and I really liked what he did with the character. On the flip side, when I tested for Superman, it was going to be directed by McG (Joseph McGinty Nichol). He didn't end up doing the movie, but he did produce Supernatural! The world has a funny way of working things out."

5. He doesn't court fame
After making movies with Paris Hilton (House of Wax) and the Olsen twins (New York Minute), Jared quickly realised the kind of attention they attract is not for him.
"I'm just not after fame. I'd rather be known for being an actor and enjoy my anonymity. With fans, I love to sit and talk to them and say. 'Thanks for watching the show. I hope I can keep making something you enjoy', but not if [for them] it's just for the sake of, 'Hey, I've seen you in magazines, so I might as well take a picture with you.'"

6. He's back on the market!
Jared is single again after he and fiancee Sandra McCoy called it a day, but he speaks highly of his ex to his fans.
"Obviously, we meant a lot to each other - she still means a lot to me and I'm sure I still mean a lot to her. Sandy is amazing and she always will be. I hope y'all continue to support her as well because she's a fantastic girl."

7. He loves his family
"I'm very close to my family - I'm very much a family man. And that's what I want. That's my real passion. I'd love a wife and 2.3 kids and two dogs, running around the yard and stuff like that - a happy little cookie-cutter life. But I'm in no hurry. I still have a lot of travelling and self-exploration to do before I bring another human being into the world."

8. He's not "Starry"
One of the reasons he and Supernatural co-star Jensen Ackles (his on-screen brother, Dean) get along so well is because they're both down-to-earth Texans with little patience for on-set shenanigans.
"You work with so many people in this business who need conflict. They're only happy when they're unhappy. Like, if everything's going OK, they go, 'There's no ice! Dammit, I only like ice water!' I'm not like that and Jensen's not either. He's like, 'We work so hard and such crazy hours, why sweat the small stuff?'"

9. He'd rather play Guitar Hero than go clubbing
Jared's not into the superficial LA "scene" - he prefers to have a quiet night in with his friends.
"When I lived in LA, I'd get invited to clubs but I never wanted to do that. I'd rather have a beer and play video games with my best friends than go out with a bunch of people I don't know. Nor would Jensen. On a Saturday night [in Vancouver], we'll just order pizza and play Guitar Hero or something."

10. He looks good
Despite long hours on the Supernatural set, Jared still works out five to six days a week, but he admits sticking to a strict diet can be tough.
"The diet's the hard part. If you put something in front of me, I'll eat it. But if I find out I'm going to be taking my shirt off in an episode, I'll clean up my diet a little bit. I did an episode where I had a sex scene, so they're like, 'Hey, you're going to be running around in your underwear', so they knew I'd be at the gym every day."
