It has been so long since I've seen this episode so I don't really remember what I love about it. I'll have to watch it later tonight

I love Dean's bond Lucas.
And I love how Sam learns something new about his brother, Dean saw their mom die.

Dead in the Water is one of the episodes that the guys said they enjoyed shooting. This was also the first episode where they bonded really good. It was the start of a lifelong friendship between J2.

Actually, the thing I remember from this episode is how Dean bonded with Lucas. It was a whole new Dean for me. He was slowly showing his softer side and it's a good plot since we can compare it to the Dean now.

Sam was mainly a second character to Dean in this episode but I didn't bother at all. Since it was season one and they (writers) were still basically introducing the brothers to us and differentiating them.

Ya this episode was the first time that we really got to see another side of Dean and I really enjoyed that

Me too. Dean was so awesome with Lucas, and the way he got through to him was amazing to see. I love the little funny moments, too, like in the car, when Dean tells Sam he wants to stay, in case something else happens, and he airs his concerns for Lucas. Then Sam replies, " Who are you, and what have you done with my brother?". Great stuff.

I know it's not a funny scene (trying to stop the man in the boat), but whenever I see it, I can't help thinking of this gag reel clip!

They bring out the slash in us.

But then moving forward and slash-aside, I do love that they bonded well. Sam and Dean will not be the same if these two are not as close as they are today.

Indeed, I'm convinced the on-screen chemistry wouldn't be as strong now if the boys didn't get along like this in real life.
