Jared Padalecki - Episode Discussion of the Week Presents: Born Under A Bad Sign (Season 2 Episode 1)

So every week we will have a discussion of a past episode and this week we are doing 'Home' from Season 1. Here's the ep description for 'Home'

When Sam has nightmares of their old home, the brothers return to Lawrence, Kansas to investigate. They discover that a new family has moved into the Winchester's home, and the woman is the one that Sam has been dreaming about. The family has been hearing and seeing frightening things, and the brothers think it might be haunted by the thing that killed their mother. They enlist the help of their father's psychic to rid the house of the angry poltergeist.

Thanks! Sam really breaks my heart in Home. So much is happening to him and he doesn't know how to deal with it.

And of course, the chilling scene when he sees his mom. He had never seen her other than in pictures and then had to watch her sould burn up. His tears and his face all crunched from pain, that was amazing acting.

I also loved the guys finding sort of another mother figure in Missouri. I loved that she didn't make Sam feel worse about his developing abilities. Great episode.

I'd have to get a chance to go and rewatch to do a full review but from off the top of my head what I truly love about this episode is just the acting. Like you said Nikki when Sam sees his mom for the first time, man Jared couldn't have done any better! The tears and his voice were perfect. And then to see her burn up right before his eyes, that was killer.

Missouri, she was one of my favorite guest stars from the entire season! I wish we had seen more of her. She was cracking me up when she was yelling at Dean for thinking things.

Missouri should come back in one of the next episodes because she's awesome.

I liked this episode because we got the first glimpse of Sam the Psychic. Then there's the emotional turmoil after seeing his mother and the questions that arise on why she apologize.

Of course, we did know after 3 years (?) why she said sorry. That's what I like about SPN, the continuity of the story.

Ya I did love that. I never really understood of course why she said sorry and I really forgot about it until the episode we found out about her. It all made sense. This episode set up a lot for the next few years and I loved that we did eventually get all of the answers that we wanted

Gay, I would eternally love Kripke if Loretta Devine was to back to Supernatural for another episode. Sadly, Eli Stone has been cancelled (

) so she might have time. It's a critical time for the brothers, Missouri would be awesome to help them right now.

I felt bad for Dean since he wasn't doing anything, but it was kinda cute. Dean wasn't used to that and neither was Sam with big bro all of a sudden being every bit of little brother as him. Hee!

So true.

Looking back, I think that scene was very powerful now. It brought a lot of unresolved stuff. I really would like to have an episode wherein Sam can talk to his mum about it.

Nikki I don't know what other shows she's into but I really like her as Missouri.

Loretta Divine is one of my favorite actresses since I was a kid. She's wonderful in all she does, which is...all.

I'm thrilled SPN had her and it would be amazing if they could get her back for one more go.

From S1? There's Skin... I really love Sam's arc in that episode, having to come to terms with his new life and leaving Stanford behind.

There's also Shadow, Provenance, Bloody Mary, etc.

I thought Ep 5 of S1 was Bloody Mary becasue I watched that one today, isn't episode 7/8 Skin?

Oh right, my boxset must be wrong because it goes 4. Phantom Traveller 5. Bloody Mary 6. Skin 7. Hook Man and so on. Sorry if I'm being a pain it just this is the first time i'm watching S1 so I want to make sure I've got it in order.

Oh, awesome! Have fun watching S1! I loved getting caught up with S1 on DVD!

I really love Skin because it makes Sam confront things head on, and even when he realizes Dean was right, Dean still tries to save it for Sam.

The brotherly bonding was awesome because it was filled with tension. Also, Rebecca is one of the few people with have seen that Sam went to school with. I'm always interested in Sam before we meet him in the Pilot and this was a nice clue.

We know Sam & Jess lived together, so it seems Sam had a core group around him that were very close.

Jensen was awesome in this episode playing the creepy version of himself. He really looked evil and he freaked me out a few times. It's funny that in this episode Dean was the "freaky" one and Sam the "normal" one. The role reversal in the coming episodes/seasons is amazing and really nice done.
