Episode 3x20 - "Rabbit Test" Discussion Thread

Rabbit Test
Thursday 30th April, 2009

The Suarez family gets an invitation to meet Matt's famed billionaire dad, Calvin Hartley (guest star David Rasche), at his legendary Easter Egg hunt. While Betty sees this as a chance to get closer to Matt, Daniel seizes the opportunity to get Mode a bailout. Meanwhile Wilhelmina suspects that little William might not be her biological son.

Woho, it was a great episode. =D

But seriously, I can't stand Matt!! There's like no chemistry between him and betty whatsoever IMO! I didn't like Gio when he was in but compared to Matt I LOVE Gio! ><
I know he didn't do anything baaad but still. I think he is rather boring. =/ I need the Detty love to get going! ><

Aww, poor Christina. =(( It's really crappy if it really IS willies! She must have made a fake letter and hid the real one! Otherwise I don't think she would have been so strict about keeping Christina away in the future.
Funny that Stuart showed up as I was thinking about him earlier in the episode. I was like "where the hell is he. Did he die or...?" xPP

anyway, this was a really good one. =)
couldn't help but laugh seeing daniel in the bunny suit with the sad music in the end xD
And poor Hilda who didn't get to keep the Egg xD

Quite interesting episode , though I think we hear enough of crisis now so it was nice to see Mode being itself and out of the crisis. I think Daniel has never looked cutter than in his rabbit costume . I'm so doing icons of that moment. I begin to really like Betty's new romantic relationship. Matt is a good guy, though his father is a bit weird.
This episode was refreshing. I felt for Cristina, I really hoped it would be her baby, but then I like Wili as well and I know she would have been depressed (not only because she would have to give away her baby ). I felt bad for Amanda when she learnt she was fired :/. She's right, Mode would not be the same without her.

First off, thanks for starting the thread, Sadia! I was seriously anticipating this episode and after taking some time to gather my thoughts, here's a few little things I'd like to say about the episode:

I always thought Mode offices were all minimalist and sleek but seeing all those repo guys taking away much of what makes Mode, 'Mode' really made me take a second look. (BTW, I can't believe the Sex Issue tanked. I thought sex sells! Hmm...)

So some people seem to hate Matt and others seem to love him. I'm starting to slip towards the former. Yeah, looks like the ole' love for Matt is slipping into an indifferent 'meh' with a hint of contempt. Kind of like how many of you feel about Molly, I'd imagine. (Speaking of which, how glad are you all she wasn't in this episode? ) I don't want to launch into a long diatribe about why I've been starting to dislike Matt; like how his jokey nature is more irritating than endearing, how his promiscuous past was waved off when Daniel had to go through a long transformation to win me over, and how in this particular episode he got all mad and snappish at Betty rather than simply explain what his problem with his dad was from the beginning. But yeah. As I said, I won't get into a long diatribe.

The Christina and Wilhelmina plotline was good. Great to see Stuart again even if I'm not his biggest fan (I must admit, he and Christina looked freakin' adorable standing over the baby in The Closet. They'd make the most kick-ass Scottish parents ever!) Even though the reveal at the end was a bit surprising (all that wondering and conflict for nothing!?) I was really sad for Christina when Wili got all territorial and forbade her to see William. Very harsh.

Marc and Amanda moments were great as usual. Marc trying to get Christina to spill about her sex life and Amanda "helping" ("the Einstein of having sex" and a "pornographic memory"? Oh Amanda. A sign-in placard and a flower vase cannot replace that!)

The Suarez family getting invited to the fancy Easter egg hunt at the Met museum was a good subplot for them. If no one figured out Hilda wasn't going to get to keep the valuable egg she found, well you need to watch more Ugly Betty! Anyway, all I remembered was how brightly colored Justin was dressed. It was like he dove into a giant basket of Easter eggs. Kind of surprised that Matt's daddy approved of them so easily when he made Daniel beg for approval.

Speaking of, Daniel's hard work and dedication to the company is fantastic. He's virtually on Wilhelmina's level. With his bright eyes and smiles when he thought he'd save Mode, then his crestfallen face when he found out Betty couldn't get him the meeting... man, that guy really knows how to pull at your heartstrings! Look no further for more evidence of that than the bunny suit scene. I didn't know whether to cringe or giggle I think I did both when I watched (even though he took it all in stride at the end - 'atta boy, Daniel!) I do know that Betty was definitely horrified enough for everyone watching.

You know, it really speaks alot to her relationship with Matt when she'd rather help her boss get a meeting to help his company rather than obey her boyfriend's wishes to do the opposite. Of course we must take into account how long she's known Daniel and how long she's known Matt but still. Not to bring up my all time favorite Betty ship but when she was with Henry, she defied Daniel and ignored his advice to be with him but here with Matt, her billionaire, comedian-wannabe, "limo Tuesdays and hot air balloon Wednesdays" boyfriend, we can clearly see her loyalties lie with Daniel. I think that says something about Matt. And Betty's feelings for him. (...Did I just make a mild D/B shippy argument? Argh. Matt makes me do that. Another reason to add to my non-diatribe. )

P.S: I really like Anton's idea about Wilhelmina having manufactured a fake results letter for Christina to read. I say the paternity isn't 100% sure until we hear from Maury Povich! This is based on a soap opera after all.

im sorry to say it but its getting kind of boring to see betty always succeed and get what she wants , like with matt or the designer dress that was stolen, i would really like to see her cope with difficult situations that she cant solve and just see her do that, other wise im just loosing intrest...

Hestia, please write more non-diatribes against Matt, they amuse me so

I actually agree with a lot of your thoughts on this episode But more than anything, I have to say how good it was to finally see a new episode of UB! I've missed it loads, seriously

I don't quite hate Matt, but I don't love him either, I think I'm somewhere in the middle. I think I used to kinda like him, but he's lost my interest and his refusal to help Betty/Mode out didn't help in making him more likeable. I understand where he's coming from re: his issues with his jerk dad, but considering he knew the extent of the situation at Mode first-hand through Betty, and he knew how bad things were and how important it was to her to try and save the company, he could've put those issues aside and just helped set-up the meeting. He came off as a bit of a jerk himself by not doing that, but eh, at least he apologised at the end. We'll see what happens with him next.

I loved Daniel for putting so much effort and time into trying to save the company (what with the all-night proposal), and especially for putting aside his pride and putting on that suit and acting like an idiot to secure the deal. It might've been ridiculous but it was also adorable

The whole thing with William being Wilhelmina's after all was a real shocker, I was so not expecting that! It just seemed like everything was leading towards Christina being his actual mother, and I'd been hoping for that, to be honest. It'd be a nice way for her to leave the show, going back to Scotland or something with her family. I can't help but think maybe Wilhelmina switched the test results, I'm kinda hoping that's the case.

I also loved the Suarez family stuff, Hilda and Justin being so excited about the hunt and the perks that come with Betty having a rich boyfriend, and Ignacio when the man wanted his thumb print was so funny

On another note, how amazing did that Easter Egg Hunt actually look, by the way? All those bright, pretty colours and the cake and cookies and yummy stuff!

Sadia i might be wrong but i think although the results said Wilhemina is William's mother ,i think it was implied that she had someone manipulate the results.

That's the thing, I don't remember it being implied that she'd messed with the test results, which is why it was such a shock! I'm hoping it turns out she has, though.

Let it be known that most of us believe Wilhelmina totally doctored those results so if ABC thinks they can pull a double whammy surprise on us, they are sorely mistaken. (And if it turns out that the tests are legit, well, you can't blame us for thinking Wilhelmina was being Wilhelmina.)

And I'll only write another non-diatribe against Matt if he seriously annoys me. I'm still trying to keep an open mind, like you Sadia.

The more we learn about Matt and his family, the less interesting he is appearing to me. Which sucks, because I was rooting for Betty to have a "good guy" and now I don't think Matt's a right fit for her, at all.

The whole thing with Christina/Stewart, and now it possibly being her baby. Uh... this story is taking another drastic turn. I have one for it, how about off the page.

I like that Daniel knew what Matt's father was doing, and wasn't acting OOC. That was refreshing. And I'm glad Betty talked sense into Matt, throwing in the whole "people could lose there jobs" at him. Heh, there rich boy.

Oh wow, they almost fired Amanda! And her replacement - the sign Too funny! With the flower vase.

BTW - my current icon/sig is giving your board total free publicity.
