SmilinStar I agree, her dad should have made more of an effort. He's the type of person who just sits back and watches things as they happen, leaving everything up to other people.

The United States of America Ferrera
by Lisa Johnson Mandell

Quote:
That’s how I caught up with her today at the Four Seasons, where she was conducting interviews on behalf of Fox Searchlight’s La Misma Luna (Under the Same Moon)... “I loved the script,” Ferrera tells FilmStew. “I thought it was a wonderful story about love, relationships and families, and I was very emotionally impacted when I read it. I also loved the idea of putting a face and a name to a word like “immigration.” ...“The film is about survival,” she continues. “All the characters, whatever side of the border they’re on, whatever circumstances they’re in, they’re all doing what they must to survive. There are all sorts of reasons why people risk their lives and leave their families to cross the border, just to clean houses for a small wage or pick fruit in the fields. So often those reasons involve making life better for their families back home. It’s very human, it’s universal and putting a nine-year-old boy’s face to the topic of immigration really tells that story.”

I watched Real Women Have Curves ...

My opinion about the movie in general : it was interesting, but I haven't been really hooked up to the story. I mean, I was feeling, at the end, that there was something missing, or maybe they didn't go far enough for my liking and I think they could've done so much more with the script ...
I don't know if it makes sense, I'm sorry

About America's performance : I definitely think she's an amazing actress ! I also love her confidence, and how much she's into her character.

But Sisterhood ... has been a better "America experience" for me though I've been more emotionally affected by this movie than Real Women ...

Anyway, thanks for the news and video planters.

Wow, thanks for the info and video planters. The whole bananas conversation made me laugh.

Peryne thanks for sharing your thoughts on Real Women Have Curves. I haven't been able to see it yet, but I definitely enjoyed The Sisterhood and she is definitely a talented actress.

Teri - I loved reading your feedback for Real Women Have Curves! It's really making me want to watch the movie soon.

Thanks so much for the links and the Leno video!

Natasha No problem! Did you get a chance to watch Leno? America was so cute, of course. I laughed so much when she was talking about the dog camp.

Sumona, no problem, hun!

I agree about the father in The Sisterhood. I was expecting at least some effort from him, but it seems like Carmen had to do all the work. That's not right at all, especially since he bombarded her with this secret family.

I loved the bananas bit, too. Her accent was hilarious and much better than Jay's.

Katie - You should rent it!

Perrine - Sorry you didn't like Real Women Have Curves as much!

Steph No I didn't get to see it, unfortunately my stupid TV was having issues, and wasn't working. Hopefully I can find it online somewhere. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it though.

I just finished watching it. America is so adorable! The dog camp thing was so funny. That's so cute she does that for Buddy.

I loved the doggy therapy line of Leno's.

I can't remember for boyfriend's name right now, but their trip sounded so funny. I love the awfully cropped Eiffel Tower pic with its star, Starbucks, and her bf's need to have his coffee.
