Cute interview. It sounds like she might be doing some promotional work with H&M however.

My favorite part of the interview was her answer to "what is your favorite party accessory?" Just so honest.

"I want to play a psychopath"

Just turned 20 - and almost as many years in the business. Hayden Panettiere is ready to lift her carriere from the successfull show Heroes to leads on the big screen.Swedish ELLE photographed her in a sunny Los Angeles.

A perfect day begins with me sleeping in. I'd sleep until I was completely rested.
Hayden Panettiere is sitting in a sunchair on a terass at the luxuary hotel Casa del mar in Santa Monica, wrapped in in a cashmirsweater and a thick blanket. Today - a sunny Saturday when Los Angeles infamous car queues are winding towards the beach - she's gotten up at 4am to get ready for a long photo shoot and an interview on her new movie I Love You Beth Cooper, where she plays the lead character.
The whole week she's also worked on the filming of the fourth season of Heroes. The shooting could go on until 2am, so it's understandable that a perfect day for Hayden would start with a long sleep in.
- I'd be at a warm, sunny place, preferably somewhere with a lovely beach and good diving, she continues.
- I love diving! It's so beautiful and peaceful. To meet all the fish that swims up and curiously greets you is wonderful. And to see rays, coralls and sea turtles. Evryone who's not diving misses out on 75% of the world, she sighs longingly.
Haydens love for the sea has led to her being the spokesperson for the Save the whales again! campaign that's driven by the Whaleman foundation. Together with other activists she's been been to peaceful protestactions in Alaska, Mexico and Japan - where she got wanted by the police after having paddled out to fishing boats in an attempt to stop the slaughtering of dolphins.

Hayden was only 11 months old when she recorded her first comercial, since then it's kept going with parts in many well known tv-shows and soap operas, like Ally McBeal, and Law & Order. The big break came with the part as the indestructable cheerleader in the science fiction series Heroes that in Sweden aired on Canal+ and Channel 4.
- Sometimes I miss being able to blend in and be one in the crowd. If I weren't famous I'd be able to study people again. I love to watch people. Nowadays I try to avoid eyecontact, because when I meet someones gaze they often take it as an invite to talk. That ften makes me stare at my feet. I miss out on a lot that happens around me, Hayden says.
It's hard to relax when I meet new people, I don't know what they want from me. But I'm absolutely not complaining. I love being an actress and I've never concidered doing something else, she continues.
Hayden grew up in Palisades, a small town north of New York, who's Wikipedia page informs that they have a library, a post office, and a retirement home, that's about it.
- I've known many of my best friends for a long time. I still hang out with several that I've known since I moved to L.A. Apart from the actors of Heroes, that's become like one big family, I don't hang out with that many from the movie industry. But some of the guys from Heroes have become like brothers to me.
Hayden pauses to cough. Long.

The truth is also that she got together with on of her co-stars on the show, the twelve year older actor Milo Ventimiglia, but the relationship ended this spring. At the same time she's recovering from a severe bout of bronchitis. Although she has been sick all week she did not want to cancel the shoot for ELLE.
- It was one of the best sessions I've ever done! We had a great time, and the pictures came out amazing.
Since Hayden is pretty, blonde and with a almost perfect figure, she often gets to play a certain type of character. Both on Heroes and in I Love You Beth Cooper she plays a cheerleader and one of the most popular girls in school. At the same time as she's grateful for her success, it's clear that she'd appreciate a challenge when it comes to her movieparts.
- My dream part would be to play a psychopath, a mean maniac. All the things I haven't gotten to do so far, she says.
It will probably not take long before that dream comes true. Hayden is ambitious and takes her carriere very seriously, which is why she's done like Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Aniston, Charlize Theron and many other actors who wants to evolve: started her own production company.
- I've just started producing. We've had meetings with some filmcompanies about projects that I'm interested of being the producer for. On some I hope to be able to be in front of the camera swell, she tells us.
Hayden is as purposeful as she is in her carriere when she describes the dream qualities of a future boyfriend.
- He has to be safe in himself, she emphasises. He should have taken care of his luggage and sorted out his problems.
- We all have our problems and can doubt our own ability. But it is very important to me that he isn't controlled by his insecurity. And it is important that he's driven and passionate in everything he does.
Hayden smiles when I point out that it in many ways sounds like she's describing herself.
- We could inspire each other. I love to be surprised, exalted, astonished. I am very fond of the feeling of not knowing what's going to happen next. It makes life more exciting!

Despite the fact that Hayden's been famous since her young years, she could never imagine taking part in a realityshow.
- Absolutely not! she exclaims. A lot of people already thinks they know me because they've read about me or seen me on TV. The thought of making myself even more available to the world is extremely unattractive. I sooner prefer the movie stars of former times, that had an aura of mysterie surrounding them. They weren't seen that much and the audience had to form their own idea of what they were like and how their lives looked like, she says.
- I also doesn't understand why people want to look at the lives of others instead of living their own.
When Hayden Panettiere gets the question of what advice she would give to young girls who wants to make their way in a tough industry, there is no doubt.
- Work really hard on getting rid of your own jealousy. If the feeling rises - look at yourself in the mirror and think about why you're feeling threatened. Every time I feel an ounce of jealousy I try to figure out how the emotion can help me in shake off another layer of insecurity.
- Hollywood is filled with insecure people, she continues. The more good looking a girl is, the more insecure she is. Many who move here were the prettiest girls in their hometown. It's a bit like if the best football player in the corpteam in a small town suddenly gets chosen to play in the World Champion. When they come here they realize that everyone here were the best players in their town. It's terrifying.
To live and work ina city where the surface is in focus has made Hayden think about what's important in life.
- You have to figure out who you are; below the surface and beyond work. The only thing that really counts is happiness. I believe in living life to its fullest, every second, and to never take anything for granted. It's no idea to cry over spilled milk, or to worry over the future. You have to appreciate what you've got and treasure what happens here and now.
Hayden notices how serioues it sounds and adds:
- It's no idea to take life too seriously. In the end all that counts is that you were happy and had a good time.

By now the three pr-girls that waits in the room next door has gotten impatient and comes out to remind us that the interview is nearing its end. Despite having been focused, well articulated, and enthustiastic, Hayden finishes by applogizing for not having been at her best. Since she by now has been working 14 hours straight, with bronchitis, it is clear that Hayden is driven by her will to always do her best. It has made her steadily go forward on the thorny path where many other childstars and starlets have fallen and ended up in the ditch.
If she just gets some proper sleep she'll probably continue on the path to even greater success.
