Friday Night Lights Star: "It's Happening" Categories: friday night lights Breathe in, breathe out. Whew! Okay, sorry, I just sprinted up the street to the closest Internet café (technically, Casa de Dos Santos) to tell you a Friday Night Lights castmember (not pictured above) just whispered to me the following regarding season three: "It's happening. I'm not supposed to say anything. We're not supposed to say anything. But it is happening. I want you to know." Pardon me while I scrape myself off the ceiling and then bow down to thank the higher power (the great and wonderful Ben Silverman) who, if the news is true, made this happen. This giddy-good whisper just went down moments ago on the red carpet for the Paley Festival's Friday Night Lights night. I interviewed all castmembers who were there, who all said they were feeling "optimistic" and "hopeful" and "good" about a third-season pickup...until the kind soul gave me what I believe to be the real skinny. Had to tell you that this nanosecond. Check back tomorrow for the video and more scoop. And in the meantime, shake your freaking Panther pom-poms in the comments section below!

NBC to Unveil 2008-09 Plan Six Weeks Early NBC will be announcing its annual 2008-2009 programming schedule next week, a full month and a half ahead of the other networks. It's the earliest upfronts presentation ever for the company, and bucks the traditional timetable of the annual meetings, says the Reporter. The Peacock will also be presenting its schedule in the style of a news conference, further deviating from the week-long, lavish events that were typical in the days of (pre-strike) yore. The revised announcement style is part of a 52-week programming approach that will rely on the press conference and exec-advertiser one-on-ones across the country. While there have been murmurings about the ways in which networks are revising their modi operandi, NBC's announcement is yet another illustration of the industry's evolution. Is this a good thing for television? How will it translate, if at all, into what we'll be watching in the year to come? — Anna Dimond

Hopefully that means we hear an official announcement about FNL next week.

Jordan in Philadelphia: I took your word for it, Kristin, and decided to check out Friday Night Lights. Bought the season-one DVD the other day, and I am officially hooked. Any news what's up with season three? Yay! We love converts! Anyway, at the Paley Festival event for Friday Night Lights, show runner Jason Katims said it would be two or three weeks until an announcement was made, and that while they are talking to DirecTV, they are not only talking to DirecTV. Hmmm...Katims also spilled that they'd likely start season three at the beginning of a new year—meaning what happened between episode 15 of season two and the first episode of season three would be filled in as backstory.

Kyle Chandler: Friday Night Lights Will Return for Season Three Star of NBC's Friday Night Lights Tells B&C's David Bianculli Season Three Is a Go By Joel Topcik -- Broadcasting & Cable, 3/27/2008 1:47:00 PM Kyle Chandler, star of NBC’s Friday Night Lights, confirmed that the perennially on-the-bubble drama will return for a third season. In an interview taped Wednesday with B&C contributor David Bianculli for National Public Radio’s Fresh Air, Chandler said a deal was struck that will spread costs and allow the series to continue. According to a post on Bianculli’s blog, TV Worth Watching, Chandler, who plays high-school football coach Eric Taylor, said all that was left to sew up the deal was to “dot the i’s and cross the t’s.” He added that he was scheduled to report for shooting in Austin, Texas, where the show is set, in June. Although reports of the series’ return have circulated for several weeks, with speculation of a deal involving satellite TV operator DirecTV, NBC has not commented on the show’s fate.
