Movie Synopsis:

For Tom (Patrick Dempsey), life is good: he’s sexy, successful, has great luck with the ladies, and knows he can always rely on Hannah (Michelle Monaghan), his delightful best friend and the one constant in his life. It’s the perfect setup until Hannah goes overseas to Scotland on a six-week business trip… and Tom is stunned to realize how empty his life is without her. He resolves that when she gets back, he’ll ask Hannah to marry him – but is floored when he learns that she has become engaged to a handsome and wealthy Scotsman and plans to move overseas. When Hannah asks Tom to be her “maid” of honor, he reluctantly agrees to fill the role… but only so he can attempt to woo Hannah and stop the wedding before it’s too late.

The story centers on Tom Bailey (Dempsey), who is in love with his best friend Claire. Production Weekly adds Tom has a fear of commitment and refuses to admit the obvious: he should propose to Claire before she finds a less procrastinating suitor. Pollack will play the father of Tom. Just as Tom is starting to think that he is relationship material after all, Claire gets engaged. When she asks Tom to be her “maid” of honor, he reluctantly agrees just so he can attempt to stop the wedding and woo her.

'It's about two best friends who met in college. My character invents the cardboard sleeve for coffee cups and makes a ton of money and becomes a bit of a player. Michelle Monaghan's character goes off to Scotland, meets a man and asks my character to be her maid of honour. During the process he discovers she's the perfect woman for him.'

Tom Bailey is a guy who is extremely successful because he invented the coffee collar. (A coffee collar keeps you from burning your hand.) Tom is a bit of a playboy and he’s really good friends with Claire. They’re best friends. When she comes back from Scotlang, engaged and in love with a Scottish man and she goes off and falls in love with this Scottish man, then comes back and asks him to be the maid of honor and at that point he realizes how much he really loves her and that she’s the perfect girl for him and then he has to go and try to figure out how to sabotage the marriage and the wedding.
