Thank you for the new thread. Just reposting this:

41. Can't Buy Me Love 1987
Before he was Dr. McDreamy on Grey's Anatomy, Patrick Dempsey won us over as the lovable lawn-mowing nerd Ronald Miller. After a failed attempt to buy his way into the cool clique, Ronny goes from totally chic right back to a total geek. 'McDreamy' idea
'Heart' winner Dempsey may visit Heartland festival

News that Patrick Dempsey may be a Heartland Film Festival guest drew appreciative gasps from women at a recent announcement party.

The Oct. 19-27 festival will show films at AMC Clearwater Crossing (replacing Castleton Arts), AMC Greenwood Park, the IMAX Theater and the Indiana History Center.
Dempsey -- his nickname on TV's "Grey's Anatomy" is Dr. McDreamy -- stars in a Heartland Crystal Heart Award-winning short called "Shade." He's also a co-owner of Indycar series team Vision Racing, so the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is working to bring him here.

A McDreamy come true

September 17, 2006 12:00am
Article from: The Sunday Mail (Qld)

PATRICK Dempsey's career was clinically dead until Dr Derek "McDreamy" Shepard gave it the kiss of life.

After riding his lawn mower to international stardom in '80s teen romp Can't Buy Me Love, Dempsey's career flatlined and the prognosis was grim.

But then he staged a remarkable recovery in the quirky medical drama Grey's Anatomy, currently in its second season on Seven and pulling in around 1.5 million viewers a week.

So it's hardly surprising that, as night descends on the Los Angeles soundstage that houses the Grey's Anatomy set, Dempsey is upbeat about a gruelling 12-hour shoot ahead of him.

"I just love coming to work," he says, flashing the trademark grin that helped create the McDreamy tag. "I simply enjoy the work now and have fewer expectations about the outcome. I know how fleeting fame can be, so I'm here to enjoy what I have now, keep the ego in check and try not to take it all too seriously."

Dempsey admits that there are advantages to finding fame again at 40.

"I think I'm handling it much better this time around," he says. "It doesn't freak me out as much and I just get on with things that I want to do. I'm also extremely appreciative of the support so many people have given me. Without that I mightn't have gone on."

He also finds positives in his years out of the limelight.

"While I'll admit it was a very difficult time, I feel I also used it wisely by going back to school to study acting," he says.

"I also think that time strengthened my character. It forced me to look at what I needed to work on and what was preventing me from working."

Dempsey points to his second marriage (the first, to actress Rocky Parker, 27 years his senior, ended in divorce in 1994) and the birth of his daughter, Tulula, as important factors in his personal journey.

"I needed to grow up and have a life outside the business and I think getting married and having a child and having a farm really helped. I started to not give a s**t about the business - an attitude I feel helped me return."

And what a comeback it has been. As Grey's Anatomy has eclipsed shows such as Lost and Desperate Housewives in the ratings, both here and in the US, it has also propelled Dempsey on to the sexiest men lists of glossy magazines.

And the sexual tension between Dr Shepard and Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) has really heated-up this season, even though Derek has returned to his wife and fellow doctor, Addison (Kate Walsh).

"This season things do get a lot sexier," Dempsey agrees.

However, he is quick to offer other reasons for the shows phenomenal success.

"I think it's a combination between really smart casting - it's an eclectic group of offbeat, interesting people who bring a sense of humanity and believability to each character - tight writing and striking visuals. But it's more than that, too. It"s also being at the right place at the right time. The thing about success is that it's just so freakish when it does happen. It's a magical thing that is very rare. Trust me, I should know."

Wow, that's odd that they're on a Soap Opera magazine.
