Well GA and GG are my 2 big obsessions so it's kind of hard to choose But there's a small dutch series in between GA and GG so that half hour is reserved for SHA... I just think I'll do lots of zapping tonight! It will be fun to see Patrick on screen in that movie, knowing it's Patrick Dempsey since I didn't know it the first time I saw it

Next year's five day Thanksgiving weekend -- from Wed., Nov. 21 through Sun., Nov. 25 -- will bring two wide releases. Disney's "Enchanted," directed by Kevin Lima ("Tarzan," "102 Dalmatians") and starring Amy Adams and Patrick Dempsey, is a fantasy family film that begins in the world of animation where a peasant girl and a prince fall in love, which leads to the girl being banished from the cartoon kingdom by an evil queen. The girl winds up in the very real world of New York, where she finds love. But then her animated past returns when the prince and evil queen come looking for her in New York. In the end, she must choose between staying in New York or returning with her prince to the land of animation for a fairy tale ending.

At the movies: Hers 2!

Chick flicks need friendship, romance

By Emily Hamsher
Capital High School

The once slang term “chick flick” has become so common that the noun is defined in the Merriam Webster Dictionary as “a motion picture intended to appeal especially to women.” While the chick flick may be intended to appeal specifically to women, the good ones can hit a soft spot with either gender. The following is my top 10 list of the best chick flicks ever.

10. “Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood” — This story of strong girlhood friendships enduring the test of time involves the Ya-Yas, a group of friends any woman might envy, who all come together to help when another is in need. Plus, what isn’t comedic about a group of women aged 50+ sitting around, drinking cocktails and reminiscing about their younger, wilder days?

9. “Sweet Home Alabama” — Patrick Dempsey and Josh Lucas help this one make the list, but also, no girl can resist a story about ending up with a childhood sweetheart, and no guy can resist Reese Witherspoon with a Southern accent!

8. “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” — Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey have amazing chemistry in this film about a girl who does everything in her power to “lose” the interest of a guy for a magazine assignment. The only thing I never quite understood was why on earth any girl would want to push away McConaughey!

7. “Fried Green Tomatoes” — A true movie of female empowerment, it inspires viewers to go out and do a little something extra for themselves. And it shows just exactly what true friendship is.

6. “Pretty Woman” — A movie that gives inspiration to any forlorn girl looking for her Prince Charming, this offers up a little bit of everything that makes a chick flick good: Hollywood, passion, diamonds, Rodeo Drive and Richard Gere.

5. “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” — Based on the book by Truman Capote, this 1961 classic stars the glamorous and beautiful Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly who lives out every small town girl’s fantasy. The movie opens with Holly window shopping at Tiffany’s at 6 a.m. after being out all night. Representing the woman almost any female wishes she could be, Hepburn plays Holly with an air of sophistication, sweetness, sexuality and vulnerability that can just never again be matched.

4. “Thelma and Louise” — No other movie takes its audience on a journey quite like this one. As two close friends rediscover themselves and the strength of their relationship in this 1991 film, it becomes very tempting for viewers to take off on a road trip of their own. If only there was a 1966 Thunderbird waiting outside to ride off into the sunset in.

3. “Steel Magnolias” — The tagline for this was “the funniest movie ever to make you cry,” and that’s the truth. It’s the story of a close-knit group of friends in a small Louisiana town, and it will make any girl wish she was sitting in on the gossip at Truvy’s Beauty Parlor. “Steel Magnolias” hits the spot when you just need a good cry.

2. “Gone with the Wind” — A classic tale of love, manipulation, desperation, destruction, passion and empowerment, this 1931 film was just edged out for the top spot in a close battle. Possibly the most well-known movie in history, it captures the heart with the overdramatic and under- thought actions of the original Southern belle — Scarlet O’Hara.

Rhett Butler read every girl’s mind when he told her, “No, I don’t think I will kiss you, although you need kissing, badly. That’s what’s wrong with you. You should be kissed and often, and by someone who knows how.”

1. “The Notebook” — Originally a Nicholas Sparks novel, this 2004 film has developed quite a following among today’s teen girls. Proving that behind every great love is a great story, “The Notebook” invites viewers on the path to love taken by the rich Allie Hamilton (the beautiful Rachel McAdams) and the simple Noah Calhoun (the rugged Ryan Gosling).

As the couple overcomes obstacles involving social class and separation, they prove their love is more than just teenage lust. The sophisticated glamour, simple love story and unique twist of this movie is what will make it a classic someday. Besides, what girl doesn’t want a man that will build her the house of her dreams and stay by her side until the very end?
