I agree, if they want a future at all they have to heal old wounds and move on. They can't keep rehashing them if they are supposed to be over and done with. They just need to have a huge TALK and get it all out in the open how they are feeling. They should have done that in S3 and sadly I feel like it may not happen now.

They both definitely love each other and want to move forward together. Derek is just as scared as Meredith IMO. Just like Derek has trust issues still with Meredith since they've never spoken about the NDE. Another thing we need them to talk about.

I've always thought so many things could be worked out if only the writers allowed them to communicate!
They do need to talk, but I think case in point as well. Guys are not communicative. They can say perfect words, say the best things, but still talking about things are not guys' thing..
I've always said I wanted them to talk, and I do, but its not a guys' thing..

Power Couple

Eric and Tami Taylor (Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton) of “Friday Night Lights”

The king and queen of Dillon, Texas, are committed to Family, Football and missing whatever's on TV on Friday. It's a small empire, but it's all theirs.

Runners-up: Dr. Meredith Grey and Dr. Derek Shepherd (Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey) of “Grey's Anatomy.” Now that Addison has been safely spun-off, their relationship should be less complicated and more exciting, right? Right?

If you think about it, Derek is portrayed as a lot of men are.. They all have trouble communicating, opening themselves up.

Yes.

Aww they should have been number one! This topic goes by slower than the oens in the GA forum. I like this one better!

That is true that many men just aren't able to open up and communicate. Men are just so proudful most of the time they can't open up.

Still though, in Derek's case he let Mer's NDE eat at him. If it bothered him that she "let go" in that water I was hoping he'd talk about it with Mer.

Same with the S&M, if it wasn't enough for him he should have said something.

Mer has this same problem about the opening up and I'm hoping that's one of the things we see in S5!

Well the forum in general is slower because the focus is 1 person, show boards usually go faster because there's more to focus on But I don't think we're doing that bad with this thread, seeing how we're on #31

I think its just something very gender specific. Men like things to be simple, well so do women, but women throw in feelings and thoughts, and I don't think men tend to do that.

It did bother him, but I think even situations when there are things that bother him, they tend to move away from the subject. Or run away from it. Perhaps hoping that it makes things easier.

Yep, I think we're doing pretty good here too!

Yeah, it's very gender specific I feel as well. It's been my experience with men. Their pride gets in the way and they are too stubborn to talk about how they are feeling if they are hurt or upset. Instead they either lash out or just run away, much like little boys, LOL!

I totally think Derek never brought up Mer giving up in the water because he just didn't want her to think about it. He was scared that if he brought it up that it would upset her and she'd think again about all those things that made her want to give up in the first place. So, he went from hovering and watching her breath to being scared to talk to her and not taking her phone calls.

I always thought Derek going through a PTSD due to Mer's NDE and not being able to discuss it with her would have been a great story!

It is that way pretty much. In general men are the ones often fleeding. I think women are more forthcoming in fighting or figuring things out together, as men back away..

Perhaps afraid that she might do it again?

But than again; this is not the GA forum....

Anyways, hi hi.

It could still be done I suppose, but it might be too late, since for the viewer its been a while since that happened. I'm not sure if it would be that believable, despite the timeline.
