The Addek therapy was different because Derek's heart wasn't in it at all. He was attempting to rebuild his marriage with Addison but his heart was with Meredith.

If Derek joined Meredith in therapy it could be so different. Derek would totally be on board and supportive in healing the problems MD have. He could say something like "I just want to be here to support Mer. I want her to know I love her and I am here for her. I also want her to know that she is not the only one with issues. I am also to blame for the problems we have had. I just want to work on healing them so we can move forward and look to the future stronger together."

I would LOVE to write their dialogue!

I think with a therapy session with these two, it would be different, given Derek wants Meredith and Mer wants to be with him... They're both parties who want to make it work..

Yeah, I'd ask but they'd say no because than the writing for MD would startt to make sense again, lol!

I agree, one can't go to therapy unless they truly want to get better. Derek didn't truly want to make things work with Addison. His heart wasn't in it and he was kidding himself.

i'm not sure whether it is the fact that they want it to work or not, but what i'm sure is that they need to overcome each of their past first.

If they want to move forward with the future they need to put the past to rest.

Derek needs to be the guy Mer can trust again and not the guy whom chose wrong.

Mer needs to learn to open up to Derek and not be looked at as someone who gave up in the water.

If they can open up about their past demons and really clear the air that would be a wonderful break through for the both of them.

They certainly need a fresh start, leave the past in the past, or learn from it.
I do think they both want to make it work, Meredith is telling him she's trying to trust him again, and Derek breaks off what he had with Rose, to be with her. So I think on that point they're both willing to make it work.

I agree, if they want a future at all they have to heal old wounds and move on. They can't keep rehashing them if they are supposed to be over and done with. They just need to have a huge TALK and get it all out in the open how they are feeling. They should have done that in S3 and sadly I feel like it may not happen now.

They both definitely love each other and want to move forward together. Derek is just as scared as Meredith IMO. Just like Derek has trust issues still with Meredith since they've never spoken about the NDE. Another thing we need them to talk about.

I've always thought so many things could be worked out if only the writers allowed them to communicate!
