haha karen, i'll certainly be back. and i don't expect their numbers to take a hit at all. the show will be fine.

but, i also agree. they had their most romantic stuff this year, cute stuff, and their not so cute stuff. it's been a nice mixture. even with the stuff i didn't like i wouldn't trade in their season.

Shonda admits in the blog they're over. They're all single again.

Then I hope she's prepared for the ratings to be lower next season when a lot of people stop watching. From the looks of boards like TWOP and the writers blog it seems that's exactly what will happen.

BTW how George and Callie still be single? You can't get divorced that quickly!

i wanted to bring this over here. since it's about them. shonda described the derek situation just as i saw it. i'm happy she stepped up adn said derek "can't be more of a best man" i thought that summed it up nicely. it should be an interesting road next year.

What I love is that for Meredith, Cristina getting married has become this incredibly important thing – this sign – that maybe she and Derek can make it through. That she can be healthy enough to let herself have this, have him. She keeps saying to Cristina “you can do this” and she needs it to be true. She needs it desperately. Meredith, the girl with no family model for how a relationship works, looks to her best friend. So when Burke shuts the whole thing down, Meredith is almost as devastated as Cristina. She does that long walk down the aisle, gets up in front of the wedding guests and tells them it’s over. And she doesn’t just mean the wedding. She means everything she hoped could be true. She means the fairy tale. She means the MerDer of it all. It’s over. It’s so over. Because she no longer believes

Derek. Poor Derek. He’s done his best to pull Meredith forward. He’s done his best to be in this relationship and help her be in it too. He has tried to be the best man. But it wasn’t enough. He can’t save her. And so in that last moment, when he’s sitting with the Chief, and he tells the Chief that he can’t take the job, it is about so much more than just the job. It is about his belief in himself. I adore the moment in the locker room when he tells Mer that she’s the love of his life. Mainly because Patrick says things like that better than anyone I’ve ever seen. But also because he’s desperately trying to get through to her. And when he says that he can’t leave her, he won’t leave her, because he can’t – it’s sad. And she looks at him and just sort of…freaks out and and he pleads with that one word “Meredith”…it’s all so…the way he puts his head back as they leave the locker room…He can’t be more of a best man. Where he’s going next season is going to be interesting to watch.

I know Shonda said this but I don't think they are really over.

I read about the ratings. I hope the writers will give to the fans a reason for to see the new season.

Even with the angsty promo for this finale, the ratings were by far beating CSI..

I don't think the ratings will fall that much to be quite honest, this upcoming fall.
A small dip like this would never influence my decision to stop watching a show. If I were to stop watching a show, then the storylines shouldn't appeal to me at all anymore.

It'll go down a little at least since there are Addison fans who said they were going to leave when she did.

Many fans will give to GA another chance, many other will start to watch The Office. Last year OC fans boycotted it for GA.

GA is the new OC with a difference: GA ratings are good.
Last year OC creator killed Marissa for a new beginning. This year Shonda "killed" MD for a new beginning.
Taylor supported Ryan after Marissa's death and maybe the little Grey will support Derek.

Meredith/Alex and Derek/Lexie.. No comment.

Speculations.

I still think that MD aren't really over.

IMO you can't compare the OC's storylines to GA.. Killing of a character for real, or breaking up a relationship, there's a difference.
I still don't get why fans are mad about the MD relationship, it was totally coming our way..

The aftermath of this all will play out in the next season, IMO it will be interesting to see how they'll deal when they've broken up under different circumstances.

Karen last year OC creator killed Marissa for a new beginning but OC is dead with her.
This year Shonda "cancelled" three season of GA for a new beginning.
Sorry but for me it's really stupid.

Derek will start a new life with Lexie, another girl in a bar and Meredith half sister. But this Derek is different. When he met Meredith Derek was a damaged man and his goal was to be a chief.
This storyline will be repetitive for me.

Meredith and the others (except George) aren't interns anymore. A new life too.

etc.

Meredith and Derek are over for this??!!
You really think that GA fans will accept Derek and Meredith apart again, for this new beginning?? I'm not so sure.

Karen, I wondered for awhile what was up with some mer/der fans, but I'm done wondering. There hasn't been a series on tv that hasn't broken up their top couple. So the shock people feel makes me shake my head. Like u said if ever the writing was on the wall for a breakup it was these last few epis.

Abc and the greys execs aren't hardly worried about ratings. Like I said if shows dropped that much in ratings everytime a couple broke up, nothing would be on tv.

It may have killed the show, but a lot of critics said that creatively it was better for the show. It may turn out the same way for Grey's.

That's not true..

They didn't work as a couple.. Why stick to being a couple, if it's not working. That's not how real life works. I haven't reached the scene yet where Mer&Der make the 'decision' about their relationship, but from what I heard, Meredith is pulling the plug, because Derek isn't able to, He loves her too much for that, people should cling onto that. He's not jumping into the next bed with her sister just like that, if that is even set to happen.

Meredith needs to grow up a bit if you ask me, if she's not ready to fight for the relationship.. Because basically she wanted it to be over if she said it was 'over', not Derek. If these two were to get back together one day soon, Meredith just needs to grow up, face things as they come on herself, and depend less on other people like Cristina who is supposed to give her faith.. Derek should give her the faith that it will be all right in the end, not Cristina.

This isn't the problem. The couples break up. MD were a couple in the first season, then only drama. I not blame MD fans if they are angry for this finale.

Ratings are important for a TV show. The networks cancelled many tv show for the bad ratings.

I still think GA fans will watch the new season, especially the first episodes, but probably many of them will prefer Office.

I don't know if the quality was better but they killed a main character with a large fanbase and OC is dead.

They weren't my words, some critics said this.

It isn't Meredith or Derek fault. It's a writers fault. They wanted this. They didn't work like a couple because the writers wanted this etc. They deserved to work like a couple but the writers chose for a breakup.

Anyway we know that the fans are free to see this show or not.

I think it's always unfair to blame the writer, it's a storyline and right now we have to deal with that, and we're talking about their relationship, not the writing, because otherwise you could say something about the writing every show or couple.. As long as a storyline makes sense to some level, then I'm acceptable of storylines.

GA is a drama show, so you have to expect drama heading your way IMO. Lead couples always have drama, but that also goes for other couples on the show..
