His biggest flaw is his indecisiveness - he doesn't trust himself to make a right decision. That's why other people in his life have too much influence on him. First Chief, Bailey, Nancy, Addison and now Ellis.

The thought about being indecisive has occured to me, but he doesn't always strike me as indecisive, since he sometimes can clearly have his mind set on something.

But it is definitely something to think about.

hmm, i don't know where the chief or ellis or bailey have made him appear indecisive.

I don't think he's necessarily indecisive, but he's often conflicted.

Derek wants to be with Meredith - Addison tells him not to hurt Meredith - the chief tells Derek he was a better man walking away - Derek walks away.
Nancy tells him to take time alone and find out what he wants - Derek takes time.
Burke and the chief tells him that they don't have any life wisdom to share - he gets back with Meredith.
Ellis tells him that he doesn't want Meredith to succeed and likes to be worshipped - he yells at Meredith.

This is what I wanted to describe with the word indecisiveness. I wasn't sure about the word just like shinystar. I still don't know how to describe the flaw I meant. It's a mix of indecisiveness, doubt, insecurity. It's the part of his character that I don't get and hate. I get Meredith, Cristina and Alex and why they do the things I hate. I don't have that with Derek.

he was already taking time when nancy came along, and i don't think ellis had anything to do with his moment with merideth. so, while i respect your opinion, i just disagree.

i do think EVERY character after having a talk with another character is lead to do something. it's certainly not specific to derek.

Yeah, I don't know why everyone is considering when Derek told Meredith to talk to Bailey, him snapping/yelling at her. I didn't see that at all. I think it's just that people need to remember he's an attending and she's an intern. In that specific moment they weren't Meredith and Derek, they were just two doctors.

The other characters get patients as metaphors for things they go throught that day and it doesn't have the same feeling as with Derek. thegreenlight says he's often conflicted and that's a part of it.

I don't believe that the Ellis quote was there for no reason. The Ellis quote "I understand. I understand perfectly. I've seen men like you before, threatened by a woman who's their equal. You just want someone to admire you. You don't care about the damage you do to her along the way" is exactly what the Derek haters have been saying about him. Will what Ellis said have an influence on Derek? Did he believe what she said? It will have an influence on Meredith because Shonda said so.

like i said i hear you. i just disagree. i've seen izzie/george talks lead to decisions, christina/ellis, burke/chief, chief/bailey, izzie/mark. so again, they all have been prompted to do something after talking to one another. i'm not talking about what happens because of patients i'm talking about talking to each other.

lis, i don't get it either. i said it after the show, he is her boss, everything doesn't need to be about their relationship.

I watched 'Oh the guilt' last night.. That was really sad..

I'm pretty sick of people saying that MD don't get enough screentime.. Their characters have plenty to do, and it's not like they didn't have other things in their life. Meredith with her mother, Derek with Burke and the chief thing.. and of course the whole George's dad storyline..
