tonight was an absolute tearjerker. i can't say enough about tr. he's just been great through this whole story. BUTTTT, between his dad and denny they can stop the death stories for awhile. i've officially had my fill.

LOVEDDDDD addison tonight. we finally got a little insight into her and mark, and just into mark. so i was quite happy, and holy hot to eric dane. YOWZA!! and i'm ejoying addison and alex way too much. i loved them fubling around each other, and obviously loved the kiss.

christina and burke are just too much. they really crack me up. seriously perfect together. and i so love the burke/george relationship. (ironic, i know). the bit with merideth not being like her dad, but the girls thinking she's just like him was cute. and i thought that was a satisfying resolution for now, with her and thatcher.

mer/der i loved it all, and am glad we are finally out of bed. i never thought id say that. but it was a very cute conclusion.

all that to say, BRING ON NEXT WEEK!!! damn them and their last 5 minutes.

i honestly don't know if i've even been invested in so many relationships on one show. from friends to lovers, i'm intrigued by them all.

Aww.. daddy died?! I haven't seen it yet, but you could have seen it coming if you've seen pt. 1
But yes, the death stories should be on hold until at least next season!

you know what karen, we knew it was coming, but it didnt' make it any less sad. TR was so good, just the simple scene of him shaving his dad as he just lay there was EXTREMELY touching. and all the layers added to the sadness. he's george, so it really did touch everyone.

i'm sure you know now i was talking about next wek with the 5 minutes. every week before it starts i thnk to myself "it can't possibly be as good this week as it was last" and it always is. damn this show is good.

karen you are good i couldn't be partially spoiled, like you before i see the whole epi. it would drive me crazy.

I read a lot of LJ comments about how people cried.. I'm bracing myself because I already cried several times when watching the S2 box last week

I want to know as much as I can.. Like when the bomb ep aired, I knew Meredith would stick her hand in the body before I saw it, but when you see it, it's actually different I'm still like 'She actually did it!' 'They didn't lie!'

oh i definitely cried last night, 2nd time in a day i cried for my shows. damn them all. it's funny, it's normally the medical stuff that gets me going on this show. denny i was a damn mess, i mean that was bad. i cried the most for him. but i did cry last night.

but the one with the people on the pole. the title is escaping me now, THAT was rough. i cried most for that medical story, especially how they weaved der/mer into it.

thank you!! I'm only spoiled like a few hours before the ep.. and I sometimes read an Ausiello spoiler, but I don't visit the thread.. I'm not that spoiled, at least not like I'm spoiled for Gilmore Girls Depends on the show.

I think it's also done so well on the show is because the writer experienced the same thing (George's situation).. I found that very surprising and interesting..

'Into you like a train'
yes the way it connected with M/D and just the story in general.. Beautiful!

How many of you were a complete mess while watching this episode like I was? Out. Of. Control. Hey — it's not a shocker when Grey's Anatomy makes you cry — I'm used to getting teary-eyed at least once per episode. But multiple times throughout the hour — that only happens once or twice per season for me. Wow. Can someone please give T.R. Knight an Emmy, Golden Globe or SAG nomination? To the best of my knowledge, he has never been individually nominated for any TV acting award and after tonight, he's due. He had so many award-worthy scenes tonight, starting with the moment when George figured it out that Webber and Bailey abided by Mr. O'Malley's wishes and gave him the surgery even after seeing that his cancer had spread: "He didn't know any better! You knew better!" Then, I lost it again when George spoke to his on-life-support father and admitted to lying to him as a child, apologized and asked him to "fight a little harder — that'd be good" and then kissed him. Bawled my eyes out (as did my roommate). That was followed by the scene when Webber and Bailey gave the O'Malley family their two choices: wait a few days or weeks on life support or pull the plug. George: "He's not Dad like this and he's not going to wake up, Mom." More projectile tears. After they pulled the plug on him at the end, I thought the waterworks were over...until Cristina followed George outside and gave him her "Dead Dad's Club" speech: "I'm really sorry you had to join the club." George (with the line that made me lose it the most): "I don't know how to exist in a world where my Dad doesn't." Because that is exactly the way I feel about both of my parents, I was almost out of breath — I was crying that much. Damn you, writer/exec producer Krista Vernoff! Damn you, T.R. Knight!
But it wasn't just T.R. that made the O'Malley story line so powerful. Outstanding performances were also given by Debra Monk as Mrs. O'Malley, as well as Greg Pitts and Tim Griffin as George's brothers Jerry and Ronny (who, up until tonight, were rarely ever serious, so it was especially poignant to hear them ask George if he thought they should pull the plug). I've pointed out before how awesome George Dzundza was as Mr. O'Malley, so he will be missed.

What also impressed me about this episode was how every character (except Mark Sloan, but I'll get to him soon) was asking about George's father — everyone showed their support, even crabby Burke. The one scene between T.R. and Isaiah Washington was strange to watch, especially because of what occurred in October and what happened earlier this week. My advice to Mr. Washington (to paraphrase a brilliant quote made by Katherine Heigl): you should just not speak in public. Back to the supportive characters — I loved how Callie asked Derek to be dismissed from the surgery she was assigned to just so she could be with George and his family.

It was about time we got to see a different side of Mark Sloan — his sensitive side. No wonder why he was talking to Addison the way he was last week — she aborted his baby eight months ago. But it was a good thing she discussed with him why she did it — best way to shut him up was bringing up all the affairs he had. I didn’t think she'd go as far as to tell him she did want to have a baby — but with Derek. Ouch. After such a traumatic conversation with Mark at work, how natural for Addison to go to the bar for a drink. Of course Alex walked in just in time. Of course they had to make out, but at least this time they weren't interrupted (I was actually pleasantly surprised no one did walk in — especially McSteamy — that would've annoyed me).

I enjoyed Meredith tonight — her scenes with Derek and also with Thatcher. I can vouch for Derek — those anti-snore ear plugs do indeed work. The only problem is — you can't hear anything, such as an alarm clock. I liked that Meredith finally asked Thatcher to give her his side of the story of why he left — and how lovely to find out she inherited her snoring from him. Meredith (smilingly): "Thanks." How about Izzie and Cristina having to tell Meredith that she was just like her father after Meredith foolishly said she didn't have "one thing in common" with Thatcher? FTF — Friends Tell Friends!

I kind of wanted more scenes with Mae Whitman tonight, but it was cool to see her character Heather walking normally at the end, thanks to Izzie's financial help. Great Izzie/Bailey scenes — so glad Izzie admitted to being both a surgeon and a person who becomes emotionally involved with her patients...and she won't change.

Other highlights:

— Bailey (speaking of getting emotional) in reference to George's father: "My son was named after his son, so I need a minute."
— Meredith asking Cristina if it was weird that she was a little jealous of George losing his father and Cristina, of course, saying yes.
— Cristina walking in with Burke's meal and then withholding it. The nurse: "Should I call security?"
— The Mark Sloan/Callie scene where Callie said: "To some men, family is everything." Callie loves her some George.
— Burke telling Derek he hadn't experienced any tremors for a week...and in front of a thrilled Cristina.

So let me know what you thought. Will you be singing Madonna's "Cry Baby" to me or rather Michael Jackson's "You Are Not Alone"?

thanks for that, i shared most of those same thoughts last night with my friend. scary, how i said most of that.

i do disagree that IW and TR were awkard. it should have been, but it was written so well, and frankly acted out so well, i was completely in the moment.

i also thought callie leaving her surgery was ridiculous, but did think that her scene with mark worked.

everything else, even the lines he singled out, i said myself.

George faces crisis on `Grey's Anatomy'
By MELISSA RAYWORTH, For The Associated Press

During this week's episode of the ABC hit "Grey's Anatomy," even the most bulletproof characters showed their vulnerability. We saw tears from Dr. Bailey, tenderness from Cristina and even a few moments of soul-searching from the normally heartless Mark Sloan. (Spoiler alert: Stop reading now if you've saved the episode for later viewing.)

This outpouring of emotion was inspired mainly by George's dad, who didn't recover from his cancer surgery.

In his father's final hours, George sought counsel from Dr. Burke and got a surprising response: "I don't have any more medicine for you," Burke told him. "If you want me to hope with you, if you'd like me to send up a prayer, that is a thing I'd be happy to do."

Dr. Bailey choked back tears as she watched George and his family face the decision to end life support. But despite her emotional involvement, she wasted no time warning Izzie about getting in deep with patients.

"You need to decide whether or not you're a surgeon," she said, after realizing Izzie had given $300,000 for a young patient's spinal surgery. Izzie promised never to cross a line the way she did with Denny, but said she won't stop caring deeply.

Apparently, she's not alone: All the interns were focused on supporting George this week (as was Callie, who loves him more than ever). Cristina even opened up to George about losing her own father decades ago.

George's situation inspired a thaw between Cristina and Burke (in Cristina's presence, Burke told Derek that he hasn't had a tremor in a week) and also sparked a possible reconciliation between Meredith and her father.

After avoiding him for days, Meredith asked Thatcher about her childhood and found that Ellis had told him to keep his distance from Meredith after their divorce. The conversation didn't offer Meredith much solace, but she did find some common ground with her dad: Apparently, she inherited her snoring habit from him.

Meanwhile, Addison confided to Callie that eight months earlier she'd aborted Mark's baby. As she and Mark suffered through what would have been the baby's due date, both took stock of their lives. Mark admitted he would have made a terrible father, while Addison lamented her loneliness.

But there was one bright note in Addison's otherwise dismal day: As the episode ended, she and Alex shared what will probably be the first of many kisses.

ABC, CBS Share Thursday Honors
'Grey's' is the night's biggest show
January 19, 2007

With "Grey's Anatomy" and "CSI" both airing new episodes Thursday, ABC and CBS battled to a near-dead heat in the ratings.

The two networks tied for first in households, each drawing a 10.3 rating/16 share for the night (CBS had a small edge in viewers). NBC was well back in third at 4.6/7. FOX, 2.9/4, edged The CW, 2.6/4, for fourth.

ABC grabbed the top spot among adults 18-49 with a 5.6 rating. CBS, 4.9, took second. NBC finished third with a 3.2, followed by The CW, 1.9, and FOX, 1.8.

"Ugly Betty" handily won the 8 p.m. hour for ABC with a 9.5/15. CBS aired a "CSI" rerun and scored a 7.8/12. "My Name Is Earl," 5.9/9, and "The Office," 5.5/8, put NBC in third. "'Til Death" and "The War at Home" were fourth for FOX, edging The CW's "Smallville," 3.1/5, (The CW had a few more viewers).

At 9 p.m., "Grey's Anatomy," 14.1/21, kept ABC in front of a new "CSI," 13.2/19, on CBS. There was a big drop to third-place NBC, which went with "Scrubs," 4.1/6, and "30 Rock," 3.4/5. "The O.C." scored a 2.6/4 for FOX, good enough to beat "Supernatural" on The CW.

CBS took the lead at 10 p.m. with "Shark," 9.8/15. ABC's "Men in Trees" shed a lot of its lead-in to finish at 7.3/12. A repeat of "ER" on NBC came in at 4.4/7.

I liked the episode, but I didn't really think it was anything too great.

The George storyline was obviously sad, and Meredith/Derek had me laughing pretty much the whole time.

I'm going to stop giving an opinion on Burke/Cristina, because they're just so wrong; it's absurd. I don't understand that relationship at all. So, I'm done with that.

The promos for next week make me nervous.

Gio- Thanks for the ratings.

haha, now i agree that they are ABSOLUTELY absurd, but i love them. thy had me laughing the whole episode just on the count of how ridiculous they were.

i think i rate how good it is, by how many stories i'm interestd in. there was only one moment i rolled my eyes at, so for me it was great.

One of the best episodes ever. Made me love George even more.

I cried when they pulled the plug on his dad. So sad.

TR was great in the episode. He deserves an Emmy nod.

MD were cute but, like I wrote in their thread, I hope to see a balanced relationship.

Sorry I'm anti-abortion. The life is precious.
