When I hear "spin-off" I automatically think of something that comes after the END of something else.

I hope this doesn't mean The Office is going to end soon. That's probably not what they're going for, that's just what comes to mind when I hear 'spin-off.'

Yeah but as much as I LOVE Jim and Pam, could they really carry their own show? It would only be a matter of time before the writers would have to put stupid obstacles in their paths. JMO
I don't know. We're just speculating. I'm not saying any of these are good ideas. Just discussing possibilties.

I'm just saying that if the spinoff were to be about where Jim goes, that I'm sure Pam would leave to go with him. Then again maybe not. Guess it depends on where he was going, but I have a feeling it would be somewhere other than Scranton, so I do think Pam would go with him or vice versa. But, that poses different issues because whatever they both do next career wise wouldn't be in the same office/place probably. Anyways I don't think the spinoff will be about either one or both of them. But, I think down the line Pam will leave DM. I'm still undecided about Jim and whether we'll see him pursue something else or decide/end up with DM for good.

In my opinion a spinoff that is going to be just another office............say Utica.........isn't that appealing. To me there's going to have to be something different to make this spinoff work and be appealing and not just a copy which makes no sense to me. But, again who knows what they're thinking.

Are they being secretive by not giving details, or do they really have no idea what they're doing?
I haven't made up my mind on that. All interviews are saying they really don't know. But, who knows............they may just be keeping it top secret.

I'm starting to think it's Stanley who is leaving. He's the one always complaining about still being there. Also, Karen almost stole him away before. He's a really funny, likeable guy.

Yeah, Stanley...

no they can't
i would reserve judgement before the spinoff airs, after all everyone said that this show was going to fail

Who deserves a 'promotion' to own sitcom?

Are the drones of Dunder Mifflin dusting off their resumes?

With NBC launching a spin-off of The Office early next year, now's the time for the Angelas and Stanleys of the world to jockey for a promotion. After all, while the network won't scalp its headliners -- that means you, Steve Carell, John Krasinski and Jenna Fischer -- it's possible some of the supporting cast might be tapped.

Who do we think stands the strongest chance at a transfer? Glad you asked:

Dwight Schrute (played by Rainn Wilson): Sorry, but Dwight is best used judiciously. Do you want to make weekly trips to the Schrute family farm? Even if it has its own cross-bow range? Didn't think so.

Andy Benard (Ed Helms): Helms might never realize his potential as long as he's playing the second-fiddle freak to Wilson's Dwight, so it wouldn't surprise us to see Andy give his notice at the Scranton branch.

Ryan Howard (B.J. Novak): Novak, who is also one of the writers, has gone from office temp to corporate slickster. But is his Ryan appealing enough to carry a series? Then again, was Michael Scott?

Karen Fillipelli (Rashida Jones): Jones remains popular with fans, despite coming between "Jam" -- the name given the Jim and Pam romance -- and could lure skeptics to a spin-off.

Creed (Creed Bratton): Creed has been, in his own words, a cult leader and a homeless man. He could never anchor a series, but upping the Creed quotient couldn't hurt. Could it?

Very true Kush. Most everyone hated the idea of the U.S. Office at first and didn't think it would succeed.

Thanks for the article.

I bring the following from Ask Ausiello (TV Guide)
Quote:
Question: What do you know about the Office spin-off? — J.R.
Ausiello: I know that, contrary to speculation, it will not revolve around Dwight. According to an insider, the Michael-Dwight dynamic is "too integral to the show." The likelier scenario, according to a Peacock insider, has Ed Helms' Andy headlining Office 2.0. "That idea was batted around prior to the strike," whispers my source, "and NBC seemed interested." Personally, I hope NBC sticks with its original plan and looks outside the Dunderverse for the offshoot's boss. Speaking of which….

Question: How awesome would it be if Lauren Graham landed a leading role on the Office spin-off? Wouldn't she be great as the female version of Michael? What do you think the chances of that happening are, taking into consideration her mega-deal with NBC? — Mo
Ausiello: You mean the mega-deal that may or may not have been force-majeured by the strike? Well, regardless of whether she's currently on the Peacock's payroll, I love your idea, and I think Ben Silverman and Greg Daniels would be insane not to at least consider Graham for the gig. Are you with me? If so, consider this week's Ask Ausiello Discussion Thread a makeshift petition to get LG an Office job.

Lauren on the office would be so cool, although I really don't see her going back to TV so soon.

maybe though

Lauren Graham is amazing! For some reason I can't see that working out, though.

Here's an article I liked very much:

"So, while we've been speculating here on our own about The Office spinoff, others are doing the same. TV Guide's Michael Ausiello, one of my favorite TV chatters, was asked in his column about said Office spinoff and whether it may be the perfect spot for Lauren Graham. Hmm...very interesting.

Ausiello agreed with the writer, that especially in light of the big deal Lauren inked with NBC, it makes sense. He wrote, "It would be insane not to at least consider Graham for the gig. Are you with me?"

Yes, I am, Mike! Frankly, I think Lauren Graham would be terrific given the quality writing the folks at The Office have been able to consistently produce. She's a wonderful comic actress. Her award-worthy stretch on Gilmore Girls proved that. She was in the classic mold of a screwball comedy queens like Rosiland Russell, Jean Arthur, Barbara Stanwyck and Carole Lombard. And in TV terms, that's Mary Tyler Moore territory."

and to complete the whole topic, here's what TV Guide's Mike Ausiello said:

Question: How awesome would it be if Lauren Graham landed a leading role on the Office spin-off? Wouldn't she be great as the female version of Michael? What do you think the chances of that happening are, taking into consideration her mega-deal with NBC? — Mo

Ausiello: You mean the mega-deal that may or may not have been force-majeured by the strike? What do you think? Lauren on the new Office spin-off? It's pure speculation right now but I loved the British Office and although I'm not a fan of spin-offs I think this could work. And yes, I can imagine Lauren Graham being a part of it as long as the writers are good just like the article mentioned.

From Kristin's chat tonight (E!)
Quote:
JBV in Escondido, Calif.: Any word on The Office spinoff?
I still can't shake this feeling that it could be Jim and Pam in the big city...Bonkers, right? But she's going to art school, and if Ryan does happen to return and hear that message Jim left, he could be packing up his desk. Argh! But I'm sure that's a ludicrous idea, 'cause the OG Office needs them. I also know the initial plan was to bring in a new person (i.e. Rashida Jones) to Dunder Mifflin Scranton and then spin off that person, but because of the strike it didn't pan out. I'm also told by a source, "The rumors that it's definitely Dwight or it's definitely Andy are false. But it is someone who will be taking a big risk." (Duh on that second part. Though I do trust Greg Daniels and Mike Schur, the producers of the spinoff, fully.) Anyway, I might die if someone doesn't tell me soon, so weigh in with any theories in the comments below, OK?

Thanks for that Mel.

Jim and Pam leaving would be insane. Can't see that happening.

I'm curious about this spinoff.
