Parks and Recreation (Starring Amy Poehler) #1 (Season Premier - Pawnee Zoo - September 17th)

Parks and Recreation

The comedic minds that brought you The Office, King of the Hill and Saturday Night Live now conspire to create Parks and Recreation. Amy Poehler plays Leslie Knope, a mid-level government employee who is trying to convert an abandoned construction pit into a usable community park while a documentary camera crew follows her every step and misstep. In her path are the typical defensive bureaucrats, selfish neighbors, real estate developers and single-issue fanatics determined to prevent her from doing any good in her community.

Paul Schneider
Role: Mark Brendanawicz

Aziz Ansari

I could almost maybe get on board sort of if it seemed like there was a *need* for a spin off. But with no concept, characters or setting, it just seems like they are selling out our show to make some quick money for NBC and cheapen the show we've been supporting the whole time. Some people seem to have blind faith in Greg to do it well, but I dunno.

And I'm really leery about structuring our last six episodes around making a spinoff. Or the beginning of next season. It just makes me crazy.

We had to BEG NBC to keep this show on the air and Jenna's blog and the other cast members blogs were the only publicity it got. And now they are just ripping it off for cash.

Again, if there was even a hint of "Let's follow Creed home" or "Toby moves to Utica" or "Yeah, let's see what DM would be like in Camden, NJ" I maybe could get on board. But just to say that Greg's going to helm both shows and they are going to air after each other? Meh, NBC, meh!

I was totally against it when I first heard about the idea. I'm still not really for it. But, since it's happening I'll try to stay open minded.

Too many unknowns right now though that will make it or break it for me, so I don't know.

From TV Guide

Super Bowl host NBC this year will air a special episode of The Office after the big game, followed by an episode of the Office spin-off.

• As you may have gleaned from that previous item, the long-rumored (and first reported by TVGuide.com) Office spin-off is a go, and will premiere in the winter.
ETA: From Matt Roush (TV Guide)

I’m not one for prejudging, and all Office fans should hope for the best. But given that the series itself is in part a lampoon of corporate hubris, it’s hard to view this announcement without at least a pinch of fearful skepticism. Looks like the show will be a mix of new characters with at least one of the original ensemble (but who?) brought in to launch it. I have faith in Greg Daniels, but questions about him being spread too thin are inevitable.
I feel the same.

Sorry for the double. One more article.

From Kristin (E!)

Quote:
The Party Line on the Office Spinoff...and the Real Story from Insiders Who Know

From Ben Silverman, just moments ago, on the Office spinoff: "It will be from the same show runner as the Office mothership...We want to make sure it is what we want it to be and in no way damages the mothership. We will only bring it to market if it’s up to the quality we want."

So what are the answers to the questions we posted below in the Office spinoff report? The answer is, there are no answers.

Per inside sources at NBC: The Office spinoff does not exist—at least as of yet.

I'm told the powers that be at NBC have been trying to come up with a premise for the past year, and they have: Nothing. They do know it makes for a neat headline, and they trust Greg Daniels, so for now the Office spinoff flies on a wing and a prayer and not much else.

Everyone involved hopes and prays it will work out, though there are no guarantees. As noted above by Ben Silverman, NBC reserves the right to change (i.e., discard) anything and everything in this "new, early schedule" it has announced. And this Office spinoff could very well be one of those things, given the fact that they've yet to break ground on a premise, and are not even sure if they will really want to borrow characters from the original to transplant to the new...

That's not to say they don't want it to happen—they totally do, and they are apparently hoping to target a few actor types like Will Arnett (can you imagine?! so good), but everything is so beyond preliminary right now that the answers to all your questions about this new Office are these: NA, TBD and TBA...not available, to be determined and to be announced.

Current Poll
Where should they set the next Office?
18.9% A television network in Los Angeles
13.0% A Philadelphia sports-news Website that employs one Jim Halpert as its star writer
8.2% A graphic design agency in New York that employs creative young Pam Beesley
24.2% The reservations office of Schrute Farms B&B
8.2% A sprocket factory in space
27.6% Don't care

So far I've heard of maybe Ryan being spun off or Jan..........or Karen/Utica branch.

I think I could get behind Karen and the Utica branch - I don't know why. I guess I really want Rashida Jones on a show that could be done well. Plus we've already seen that branch and its supposed normality, so it could be interesting to see what it's really like. But yeah, still standing firm behind my initial, "um, why?"

I love how the Office is different and a spinoff will change it. I am really not liking this idea.

Well nbc is saying they don't want something that's going to hurt The Office in any way so that's good. I guess we'll have to see what Daniels comes up with. It makes no sense to me to have a copy of The Office, so I don't know...........there has to be something different about it. Like I said, too many unknowns right now.

I really don't know what to think about this. A spin off is a cool idea, but to me it would more sense to have it after the original Office ends. I really want The Office to keep all of its characters. What I sort of think is going to happen is that the show will be a completely new office with completely different people. I don't know how that would fly though. I'd rather have a spin off after The Office ends, maybe with Dwight's B&B, I think that'd be funny. Then you could have Office cast members visit every so often.

I know what you mean Jessica.............if we're going to lose one of the Office originals............and let's face it someone like Jim or Dwight would make the most sense and be the strongest to spinoff.........I'd rather it happen after the show ends too.

This spinoff needs to have something different about it and a different type of feel. I don't know.

My guess is that they are going to spinoff the Jim and Pam storyline.

Jenna said the following in a recent USA Today interview

"Fischer got more specific, revealing something big is in store for Jim and Pam in the second episode back. "The writers totally surprised me," she said. "It's a big curveball."
