I actually hope this is a learning experience for Jim. He's got to recognize that Pam doesn't need the fireworks and carnival - she just wants to marry him. He just needs to ask her and be done with it!
Well the thing is.........I think Jim got that tonight to some degree when he was talking to Michael. He really didn't plan to propose that day but hearing himself talking to Michael he realized there was no reason to wait and to just do it. It really is a shame Andy ruined the moment.

But, I think it's possible Jim still could have proposed that night or will propose before she goes to NYC.

I agree Mel... I definitely think Jim could propose later. I was hoping he would just say "Screw it!" again and drop on one knee. But I understand why he didn't.

John was killing me with his looks. When he was remembering all his moments with Pam in the office. Gah. I was in Jim heaven tonight.

I don't blame him. I just don't think he wanted to follow that. His big moment was robbed.

Me too! I wanted nothing more than to jump into the tv and wrap my arms around him! He did a fantastic last night. Man!

Jim wanted it to be special, so I get why he dropped the idea right away. Like Monica Geller would say "Andy stole his thunder". I have a feeling S5 will start with Pam answering the phone and the camera will close up first in her hand and then in a beautiful ring.

About the episode, Jim was all kinds of awesome the entire time. I was pretty much squeeing when he left the first message to Ryan, it was a bold move, especially because he didn't know anything about the prison.

His moment with Michael was great. First because it made him think about all the moments with Pam and then because I love when Jim tries to avoid more embarrassing moments for Michael

I loved that Jim stood up to Ryan. Granted he didn't physically talk to Ryan at the time, but I loved seeing a more proactive Jim, one fighting for his job and his place in the company.

I would love to see season five starting with a close up of her hand that leads to a flashback! That would be perfect...mimicking season 3 premire when they had a close up of her hand without a ring. I wonder...Fall needs to be here soon!

It's ironic since Jim's fireworks is one of the factors to why Andy proposed.

I know. What irony.

I like seeing a stronger Jim too. It was great seeing him take a stand for himself.

I agree. It was refreshing for him to take initative and stand up for himself. Ryan had been such a jerk to Jim, for really no reason. I enjoyed seeing Jim go after what he wanted. It makes me think too he might like his job more than he lets on. I definitely see an oppurtunity for him to move up if he wants. We'll see where the writers take season 5.

Re: the proposal. The more I think about it, the more I think it happened sometime later. I think when he said "I'm going to propose tonight" that he meant it. Whether it ended up being at DM or somewhere else.

I hope you're right Sara. Though I haven't figured out whether I'm okay with them not showing us it live... or if we'll see it as a flashback.

I could see it going either way. I think it's very possible Jim still proposed that night or will propose before she goes to NYC. But, I can also it not happening right now.

Yeah, I think that's the beauty of this show. I won't be disappointed with either. I trust these writers more than just about any other TV show I watch.
