Story Spotlight - September: "Release" by divas-lament

Story Spotlight

We figured it might be a nice idea to honor one especially wonderful story (fan fiction or original) each month. :)
We have all read stories we thought were brilliant, but not many other people seemed to have noticed them. This is your time to nominate your favorite(s). It does not matter how many words the story has or which fandom it's written for, but it should be finished in order to be nominated.
Just send either Jenny (follow the sun) or Lynn (sweet_zelda) a PM with the following information:

  • Title of the Story
  • Author's name
  • Fandom/Original; Couple (if Fandom); Rating (if higher than PG-13);...
  • link to the story (of course)
  • any additional information, for example:
    • why you like the story
    • how you found out about it
    • other works by the same author
    • possible ways as to how to contact the author
    • is the author an :ff: member?
    • ...

You may send in as many nominations as you want :) We will collect all nominations and pick one story each month. The story will then put up on the spotlight, which means:

  • link to the story here / it's own topped thread here
  • a banner for the story

We will also try, if we can, to interview the author with questions you want to ask them or also post links to other stories by this author (as long as the story hasn't been nominated itself ;)).
We hope this will help all kinds of authors to get their stories out there and known :D

Nominations are open-ended, so you can keep nominating stories all the time. :)

Currently in the Spotlight

We have picked our first spotlight story! :D We're very proud to present you:

Release by divas-lament (Kate)

Rating: PG-13
Fandom: Smallville/Supernatural
Characters/Pairings: Chloe Sullivan/Jimmy Olsen, Chloe Sullivan/Dean Winchester.
Summary: Chloe has a memorable wedding night.

Quote:

John Winchester could not bear to live in Lawrence after the death of his wife. He would see her everywhere: at the grocery store, at the garage, at the park that they took the boys to on weekends… Everywhere he would be waiting for her but she never came. Dean had gotten quiet. Though they never talked about it, John could tell he was hurting. Sammy would look around for her, waiting for her to come to his crib.

It was easier for them to leave. He packed the boys in the car and drove for part of the night. Despite his need for space from their old home, he could not go too far. Something had happened in their house that night. And he had to find out what happened. For Mary.

They traveled around for weeks, going around from motel to motel. It went on this way for a few years as John searched for meaning to that night with Missouri Moseley’s guidance.

Dean was fifteen when they settled in Wichita. The duplex offered a roof over their heads at a reasonable price. Dean and Sam had their own room and the place was close enough to the local schools should they end up staying through the summer into September, though the chance of that happening was slim.

Chloe Sullivan stayed with her grandmother that summer. It was tradition ever since the first summer after her mom left. Nana had been more than happy to have her granddaughter to the house for the summer months, letting her run and be happy – to act like a kid.

Chloe had met Sam and Dean that summer. They hit it off right away, being strangers in the neighborhood and therefore outside of the cliques that dominated the others their age.

Though she was closer in age to Sam, that summer Chloe had her first kiss with Dean. The two had been roped into a faux wedding ceremony by one of the little girls in the neighborhood whom she had been forced to entertain while her grandmother babysat the girl. Dean had been ready to shoot himself in the face. Chloe would have rather been anyplace else in the world.

Kate has kindly agreed to answer all questions as best as she can. I have already send her some for her to answer, but if there is anything you would like to know from her, please don't hesitate to post here and we will forward your questions.
Also, if you find other stories of her worth mentioning, don't hesitate to say so :)

Personally, my absolute favorite is her "Librarian Series" which can also be found at her journal.

Amazing idea! Let me think of a story ;)

Starfield_Scribe 08-12-2008 05:43 PM

See, this is where I feel bad that I never actually get the time to read stories myself

Great idea! :D

follow the sun 08-12-2008 09:39 PM

Maybe this will give you an excuse to read ;)

Thanks for opening, Lynn! Let me give it some thought, and nominate something :D

Are we thinking more of a one-shot, to be shorter for everyone to read?

sweet_zelda 08-13-2008 12:09 AM

I forgot to add that the story should be completed before you nominate it ;)

I don't think it matters much how long the story is. Of course, a shorter story might be cool, but if someone has a story with 43 chapters and it's an awesome piece I don't think we should eliminate it

trucherrygirl 08-13-2008 12:14 PM

What an awesome idea! Does it matter if the TV show the fanfic is written about has already been cancelled or the fanfic nominated is from some obscure fandom?

sweet_zelda 08-13-2008 12:46 PM

It does not matter what kind of story it is at all :) The only important thing is that the story should be completed, but it doesn't matter which fandom, which couple or which word count it contains :)

Twilight of the Innocents 08-13-2008 02:42 PM

this is such an awesome idea :D

I have so many stories in mind to nominate, but I need to narrow it down, and check if they are complete.

ZacFanOnWheels 08-13-2008 10:44 PM

Gosh I can't pick...I know of so many amazing pieces I could nominate:D

So how will it work? You two, mods, will pick one from the nominations or...? The first spotlight will kick off at the start of september I assume? :D

Right :)

We haven't set a date, but I was thinking the beginning of September would make sense

Send in your nominations anytime :D

Pebbles_xx 08-15-2008 05:05 PM
