I wrote my first fanfiction over at the WB about 2-3 years ago, and I found out about it because my friend had written some as well.

When I first found out about it, I was watching the soap opera "Sunset Beach" and I started reading swedish fan fics because I wasn't good enough at english then.
I also wrote, but not very good.
Then I started watchin Alias, found good sites and wrote ff's.

I first found out about fanfic back when I was 12, I was obessed with Lois & Clark, it was way back when the internet was like....really slow and you had to wait for 20 minutes for a tiny picture to load. Anyway... I started writing shortly after that be never was any good at it so never posted anything then I fell in love with Dawson's Creek and wrote like crazy, since I was older my writing had become a little bit better and I posted on forums and stuff like that but I soon got bored of writing about Dawson, Pacey and the gang so I started thinking of my own characters and my own stories and..... pretty soon I was writing screenplays and now I'm about to sell my first tv series and hopefully it's gonna be produced and then people will start to write fanfic about my show. That would be great!

That is wonderful! Somewhere I remember reading Josh Whedon saying he used to make up stories about his favorite shows when he was a kid. That was one of the reasons he was supportive of fanfic.

My first fandom was X-Files. Over the thanksgiving weekend in 1997, I decided to look up the official site online at school. I hadn't had a tv since 1980, but I kept hearing people say how great it was, and I wanted to know more about it. One of the sites Alta Vista (then the premiere search engine!) returned was The Gossamer Archive, which collected all kinds of XF fanfic. This was the first I'd heard of it.

At that time, I knew nothing about "fanon", slash, etc. I just started reading the "New Stories" on gossamer, and the second one was a fairly well-written Mulder/Krycek story. I thought, what's this? A tv show with major gay characters? I HAD to buy a TV. I even got cable, when FX started running the reruns, to catch up on the backstory. I was disappointed. No canon gay agents after all. But by then, I was hooked on the fanfic.

By 2000, I was tired of XF. I'd started watching Buffy, which was the first WB show I ever watched, after I discovered Buffy/Faith. That's how I found out about Roswell, which looked at first like it was the complement to the XF, telling the UFO myths from the aliens' point of view.

The last show where i got into the fanfic was "The Invisible Man", which was on Sci-Fi for a couple of years. Since that was cancelled, I've gotten jaded. I don't even have cable anymore.

I first got onto fanfic when I saw my sis on fanfic.net, and my first one was a Jate fic for Lost. That was about a year ago.

Today I discovered a Fanfiction History Wikipedia that's been online for about a month. From their front page:

Diane Marchant passed away on April 5, 2006. In 1974, Diane Marchant published the first Kirk/Spock story.
I'm surprised it could actually be traced back to one author and story! Anyway, the site looks like it may be entertaining to read, and some of you may have history to contribute, as well.

The Wiki listing of Trek 'zines is very incomplete! But it was fun to check it out, and sad to learn about Diane Marchant.

I first learned about fanfic through the Harry Potter fandom. It's obviously a pretty big part of that community. I started writing my own - Harry Potter first, and then one for That 70's Show - mostly out of a desire to incorporate myself and my own characters into the stories I loved so dearly. Writing fanfic allows me to be a part of the imaginary worlds I wish I could exist in...that's what I love about it.

I use to write original fiction back in the day when I was little and would post it on fanfiction.net when they use to accept original work. But, I wouldn't really check out any of the other stuff. But when I was part of different yahoo groups, back in my O-town days () I would get these stories about the band. I didn't really understand them, especially since most of the ones I would recieve were slash. Then I found more stories for tv shows and etc. on ff.net and I got into writing them too. Then soon I would get ideas and started writing.

Damn... that was soooo long ago... it's crazy!

A friend of mine introduced it to me like 2 years ago and gave me the link to fanfic.net. I started reading some for a particular show and saw that one of my fav characters was generally portrayed negatively so I decided to write something positive about her. I am over it now...

Internet Beef: What is it good for? Absolutely nothing. So two months later, just get over it! JEEZ! Going from board to board writing essays about it just makes you look like one of those "stupid people."

I still remember exactly what I did the first day I found out about fanfiction. I was about 12 years old and a member of a website called WTB?R [A Who's the Boss? Website]

Anyway, I read every story on there, and decided that I would like to write as well. Much to my embarassment, I still have these stories, but anyway, what I did was find a huge stack of paper and I wrote script-fics. I was 12, that's my reasoning. I stayed up until 3 am, when my friend who had spent the night came downstairs and asked what I was doing. I've been writing ever since then, but it's turned more into my own stories as opposed to fanfic.
