If you could recommend just one fic...
I thought this would be an interesting topic: If you could recommend just ONE fic to the public at large, whatever fandom, whatever coupling, whatever rating, what would it be and why? [img]smilies/smile.gif[/img]
Mine would be The Draco trilogy (Draco Dormiens/Draco Sinister/Draco Veritas) by Cassandra Claire (Harry Potter). Okay, so it's a trilogy and not one fic, but they are all enjoined so [img]smilies/tongue.gif[/img] It revolves around the Hogwarts gang in their sixth(?)/seventh year. Draco Malfoy is one of the key players. It's a novel-length mixture of action, adventure, romance and humour. The writing style is superb - as with most long-term writers it starts off being only average but grows in time to be absolutely breathtaking. Some of the imagery that she uses are so vivid they leave imprints in your mind. Occasional hilarity. Good plot structure. Just... superb. I think anyone who's at all into the HP fandom should read this trilogy. So... what is your one fic recommendation? [img]smilies/look.gif[/img] __________________

my recommendation would have to be the Young Americans fic Lightning Crashes by shevsy630.
i don't know why i like it so much, but i really do - it's not that long, but the storyline is really beautiful and it's well written. it's a songfic, which i normally don't bother reading, and i didn't even know the song for this one but i read it anyway - and boy am i glad i did! it's kinda sad, but romantic, and the characters ring true to the series. i love the storyline and how sweet it is - i remember telling my husband the first time i was pregnant, and i remember him telling me when his mother was dying, so i can relate to the storylines which is nice. so yeah, that's my recommendation, although there are so many other great fics out there that i'm loathe to choose just one! __________________

Apprentice - It's a Pitch Black fic, and can be found at www.vindiesel.co.uk I think the author is Ardath Redkha, but it might be someone else - I can't access the site right now to check. Great epic fic for the Jack/Riddick shipper!

Hey Catalinay, thanks for the link! I've been looking for Pitch Black fanfics lately.
My recommendation would be a Young Americans fanfic: 'Perfect Love' by Nicky. That's my personal fave one. It's because the storyline and how it's developped, the thoughts and the feelings expressed and described in it, a song mixed with memorable scenes of the couple Jake/Hamilton and the perfect ending [img]smilies/smile.gif[/img] Just my opinion. |

*cough* Yeah, I had a hard time deciding on just one fic to rec! I would definitely recommend Nicky's entire series to anyone looking for YA fic.

OK, I keep trying to read this "Draco Trilogy" by Cassandra Clair, and I keep failing. I just can't get into it. Can someone give me a summary or tell me why it's so good, so I can decide whether to try it again?

OK. I'm giving it another try. I'm on chapter 3 of DD. It's not that it's bad o anything, it's just that I don't really care. But I know Cassie can be really good cuz I read all the LotR "Secret Diaries."
