My five year old cousin's just been diagnosed with Swine Flu. Everyone (doctors I mean) seems really relaxed so I'm trying to be positive because they don't seem to think it's serious - and they just announced that approx. 100,000 are going to be diagnosed each day by the end of the month. Despite all of that, I'm scared as hell. As he's so young he's already vulnerable and...God, he's just the sweetest, most amazingly (sometimes freakishly) intelligent five year old and...I just hope he's okay. I mean, I saw him just two days ago and he was full of life, you can't believe that at the time he had Swine Flu and there wasn't a single thing off about him to alert anybody - I think that scares me the most

Nikki, I'm not sure how it is there, but here it's not a big deal at all. Most people who've gotten have gotten it mild; I mean, I had it along with everyone else in my family, and it was nothing. I didn't even know I had had it until it was over. Everyone's getting it, and it's actually pretty hard to die from it, so that's why the doctors aren't really scared. But I mean, I don't know. Every case varies. I hope it doesn't turn into anything grave!

Well, people here have already died from it - even though it didn't spread as rapidly as it did in the US. They say that everybody that's died so far had health issues already, but, personally, I'm skeptical - probably just another media spin so nobody panics. Although, what you've said does comfort me

It's still worrying though

Nikki, I have read a lot about the swine flu and I can assure you that it is by far not as bad as it sounds. The media spun it in a really bad way because this is the first flu that originated from an animal and a human got infected. That's all, really. The swine flu, or H1N1, has the same symptoms as the normal flu and can be treated with the very same meds. You can check the website of the WHO (http://who.int) for more info on that

Also, I don't want you to panic, but that people have died from it, doesn't mean that this flu is worse than the normal flu. People do die from the normal flu as well and more than you'd think. Like I said, I think the media just made a bigger deal out of it than it actually is to get their papers sold.

My dad said that he thinks people of European descent have higher immunity to the Swine Flu because it has some relation to the Bubonic Plague...

I have no idea if it's true or not, but it does make me feel a hell lot better

But then again, I already had Swine Flu.

Eh...idk, I'm generally quite a dramatic person (

) so things like this don't help. I do still think this whole Swine Flu thing is very bizarre, though. I'm not completely convinced that the public is being told all of the info.

Interesting theory, Jordyn, though most of the people I know who've gotten it had been European so...

Haven't seen Hottie in almost two weeks (...I think)

I think he might've gone on holiday.
My friends trying to get me to ask his name (seeing as he made the first step, she says I should take the second), idk, though. If I ask his name, I'm going to have to tell him mine, and then it moves on to this strange other level....

I personally think Swine Flu is being exaggerated by the media, but then again, that's nearly inevitable.

DAMMIT! I dreamt about Mark again. This one wasn't even a nice dream (except the one bit where he held my hand) it was really weird. It made me feel funny when I woke up. ...I hope it really was just a dream and that he's okay

You know, she's nineteen and I was kind of expecting her to act nineteen, too. But it was like suddenly becoming the mother of a ten-yer-old-in-puberty.
She wouldn't go ANYWHERE without me, she didn't really seem to enjoy any of the sights I showed her and the last day just took the cake when she wanted to go off by herself to wander around the station, but was back late, didn't have the money to get her luggage from the station (which I had told her before to keep safe!) and we had to run or her to catch her train.
I don't know, this would have never been so bad if I would have expected her to act like this (like, say, if she were ten and in puberty) but she's nineteen and I seem to have no tolerance for dependence. She came here to practice her German, after all

Wow! That really sucks! I know when you host someone you feel really responsible for them having a good time, and it's a pain when they won't co-operate!

Why couldn't she just lighten and try to have fun? and then she finally wants to be independent, and screws up?

Did she at least try to practice German while she was there?

Not much, no

I had to say everything in German, English and then, if I could, Chinese. It was really exhausting!

On another note: I went on my third climbing trail with my Dad today!
