I prefer fluffly than smut right now because like you say in smut fics (especially, long ones) I use to skip the smut part too God, it seems the characters spend the whole day in bed

But I repeat that before there were wonderful fics between these two genres that I can't find so easily now.

At the moment, I'm definitely into the drama/angst genres. I have no idea why, lol. I tend to skip over smut scenes in fics, too - sometimes they don't contribute anything to the story, so it's not like I'm missing much.

I definitely prefer angsty/drama. I don't mind smut, except when the writing becomes more vocal orientated..."Oh, baby....blah..blah." That makes me want to gouge out my eyes with a melon baller, and/or reach for the brain bleach!

I like stories that stay as true to canon as possible but expand on it. So most AU fics I avoid. I don't like when established facts about characters are changed.

And angst is my cup of tea. More to write than to read, so I guess I'm a hypocrite!

I hate when stories get so AU that the original characters and plot lines aren't even recognizable. Bringing in new characters is okay, but I think the core people are more important. But I like AU, just when its done in the right way.

I'm surprised so many people don't like smut. I love smut. Good thing too since all my ships seem to have plenty of sexy fic.

Oh god. That's always enough to make me hit the back button. I don't care how good the rest of the story is.

I agree! It always seems to be one or the other, PWPs are completely off my radar atm though - and I can't stand it when there are whole chapters dedicated to the characters spending the whole day in bed I'll read the first few lines, the last few & move on

I like that too, as long as it's a good balance. I like when the angst is for the whole ensemble, but the fluff is just with the main pairing. I don't like when there's a lot of angst and all of the couples/characters are happy at the end of the day, even when there's still a lot going on. I tend to read fics based around a single pairing rather than an ensemble, though.

I don't like ensemble fics. Its too hard to keep track of everything and its easier in the fanfic world to focus on either one couple or 2.

I agree. There are certain fandoms that I can accept ensemble fics of, but then there are others where there's no reason why everyone needs to be involved in the drama. The Office, for instance, I love ensemble fics of, but I certainly prefer just a pairing or two.

OT: This probably explains why my fics are usually short, since I only focus on one pairing. The one I'm writing now is an ensemble, which I've never done, and it is getting long pretty quick. I might have to write my first multi chapter because of it. I like it, though, so that's good.

I tend to focus on one couple...but slowly add in other characters...but they're more as foils to the main characters. These people do not exist in a bubble. For example...in my gilmore girl fics, I'll have a chapter with sookie and rory.....and than a different chapter in the diner with various townspeople....but that keeps the story organic. The story is not really about these other people...rather they simply interact with my main characters.
