Roswell UC: The Polar Novel

It's been almost a year since I've posted a new chapter. And yet...

The next installment of the Polar Novel, Erosion, is up.

For those of you who are brand new to the Michael/Liz goodness that is the PN, well, you've got some juicy reading in front of you. Make sure you start from the beginning, otherwise it won't make any sense.

I'd appreciate any and all feedback, and hope you enjoy the story. Thanks!

Ottie

Dear Ottie,

Thank you so much for not giving up on the Polar Novel. Wow...it has really been a year!

So when I read Erosion last night...all I can say is that I really need to read PN all over again. From the very beginning. I need to recapture the emotions to it.

It's still very angsty...but I love it all the same. Thank you for writing!

Will be back after reading the latest chapter again.

Yvonne

PS. Can you tell us about the plans you have for PN? Will you continue writing it?

Can I be added whenever you do the Polar bar again please? I can be the webmistress of there official site.

I hope the next part will come out soon. I just miss this novel so much its ten times better than the actual show.

hugs,
Denise

Aww, roswellbelle... your signature gave me goosebumps. That's so sweet. Thank you.

I won't tell you much about upcoming chapters, but I can tell you that the Mi/L relationship will be initiated again by the conclusion of "The End of the World" (something I decided I wanted to do because EoTW was SO absolutist and seemingly irrefutable in its Liz-can't-be-with-anyone-ness). The Polar Novel will also be finished in the near future - I've mapped out how it's going to end, and I'm excited about it.

I was originally planning to send Mi/L back to the Babe Magnet at some point, but I'm no longer certain that's going to be the case. My apologies to those who were looking forward to being included, if it turns out to be the former... I'm just not sure what the best way will be to bring this long, exhausting saga to an end, and I want to make sure it rings true.

The woman Alex was talking about (on TV) won't be mentioned again, so I'll explain it here - Shiri Appleby was in a Bon Jovi video a while back for the song "It's My Life." It was ALL OVER the airwaves, and I started to wonder what it would be like if some of the Roswell characters were to see the video (Maria, for example, recognizes that "I'm Like a Bird" vocalist in Season 2, so there's no reason to think that they never watch MTV). I thought it would be interesting if Alex or Maria recognized Liz-as-Shiri, but Michael did not - not because he's dense, or can't see the similarities, but because he knows Liz so well that the similarities are miniscule. So that's all it is - just an attempt on my part to be a little tongue-in-cheek, for a chapter that's so very dark and intense.

Thank you all for posting your comments, I really appreciate it!

Sincerely,
Ottie

Well Ottie, you've done it again. Not like there was any doubt, of course.

Great update. I caught the music video reference, it actually cracked me up. I love that Alex was the one to see it and point it out, that's so very him. Good job with Maria getting the recording of Alex doing his strip tease. Way to explain loop holes that the writers always seemed to ignore (i.e. Liz having flashbacks to Alex's striptease when she wasn't actually *there* to see it).

Anxiously waiting for more but happy for now,
Aphrodite

Hee! Thank you, Aphrodite!

CHaDS like the Alex striptease always just bothered me. I mean... I'm a little compulsive, and a little meticulous, but couldn't they have just double-checked and made sure that Liz actually *saw* all the scenes she was imagining during "Cry Your Name"? I mean, they're professionals, right? They do have a continuity editor, right? : :

So, yeah, I kinda make it my personal responsiblity to clean those up if I can. Thank you for noticing, and for posting!

Love,
Ottie

Just wanted to drop in and let you know how much I enjoyed the new chapter. I'm so glad you are going to finish the PN. It is too good to leave incomplete. I'm excited to see how it ends. I noticed you adding the Alex striptease video watching. I'm so glad you tie up as many loose ends as you can. Lord knows those writes left enough of them. I got a kick out of the Bon jovi video mention. I liked the way you even turned Summer of 47 polar. Nice catch on the stars line. I never even noticed it.

I have to say my favorite part was when Liz's mother took her to see the ash tree. I felt for Liz. Poor girl everything is just falling apart around her. The part where she was saying "she said" and her mom interuppted her and told her that her grandmother was wrong it was like Liz was probably beginning to question the whole conversation w/ her grandmother and then when she was remembering it and her mom said "idiot". My heart just broke for her.

I love the contrast between Max and Michael. Michael willing to be away from Liz so she won't be hurt and Max too selfish to let her go, yet neither listening to what she says she needs.

I can't wait to get to EOW so we can get some polar loving....

Ottie The whole Bon Jovi video thing was great. Here I thought it was some big deal like a Liz clone and you were making an active culture joke. Couldn't have done it better myself.

Byes,
Christina

Wow! I had already given up on the story!

Thanks so much for writing again Ottie!!

Now I just have to print out the whole story and read it again, so I can refresh my memory.
I guess I'm gonna sign off for the next few days until I finished reading.

Hee. Loving M, Malcolm Gets is from the town I live in (Gainesville, Florida). He came by a year or so ago to revisit his roots and talk with some of the kids in theater programs. It was a huge brouhaha for my little podunk town...

Thanks for posting! I hope you enjoy your re-reading of the Polar Novel.

I'm so happy that you updated. The polar novel has to be one of the best Michael and Liz stories ever. Whenever they are together in the story, I get chills. I hope that you will continue with the story and not make your devoted fans wait so long for another update.
