This Lionsgate remake of the 1981 Canadian slasher fllm, to be released in January 16th 2009. Is about Tom Hanniger (Jensen Ackles), a handsome, principled man who returns to his home in Harmony, Mo., 10 years after 22 people were murdered on Valentine's night. Back in Montana, Tom finds he still is smitten with his first love, Sarah (Jaime King), and is now a murder suspect. Zane Smith wrote the screenplay.

Jack Murray, John Dunning and Andre Link will executive produce. Executive producers for Lionsgate are Mike Paseornek and John Sacchi.

I know what you mean, I didn't think Tom would be the killer at all either! I did think he might've in the cage bit because I thought he was imagining himself, then when they showed the killer getting the other guy, and the fact he was trapped, I thought "nah, can't be", and it turned out he was! It's almost too obvious to make him the killer, in a way, so you think it won't, but then that works against you and it does end up being him

I loved that, it was such a mislead all along! I don't think anyone guessed it was him!

It was like he was the most obvious suspect so you don't expect it to be him. But then when you find out and look back you're like of course it was friggin him!

And the bits with the lights is possibly the best scene in the entire film, and my favourite scene. The way it flashes between him and the killer get-up? FAN-EFFING-TASTIC! But the bit where he walks away and just gives that look into the camera is simultaneously chilling and hot!

I know that was so frucking awesome! And my fave scene!

Exactly! And I just love that the whole reason he became the killer was because he was completely traumatised from what almost happened to him when he was a teen. It just gives his reason a different depth, rather than "oh I kill people for fun and giggles."

I didn't even think of it that way cause the whole stuff in the beginning kinda confused me but you're so right! It gave much more depth to the character.

Yeah, as long as we get plenty of badassness I don't care! We only got to see a little bit of it at the end of the film, that was no where near enough! Although we won't get to see his pretty face if he's always wearing that mask.

Hopefully! It's weird though cause most slasher sequels, the killer is always this ominous figure and you never really get to know them as a proper character, unless it's something like scream were each sequel has a different person who you don't expect. But it's never the same person in every film. I can't think of a horror film where the lead ends up being the killer and is still the killer in all of the sequels.

This is why that twist makes this more of a thriller then just your plain old slasher movie and it will be interesting to see how they could make a sequel and still keep the surprise and suspense.

But then it's been a while since I saw a proper horror film so I could just be talking out of my arse!

I think you might be onto something! I can't really think of any sequels where the killer is the same person, apart from the big franchises, because usually either they change, or the killers die. But then I haven't seen that many horrors so I could be wrong. But then I agree that the sequel could be a totally different movie, since we'd have the same guy and we'd hopefully get to find out more about him! Like ooh, maybe they could fill us in with flashbacks of his time in the mental institute, and actually show the lead-up to him turning to murdering people. That'd be interesting!

Oooo nice idea! I would love to know more about what lead him to turn into a serial killer! There's obviously a lot to tell there, and I felt we missed out on Tom's story! Oh and I just remembered, Hannibal lector in silence of the lambs is the only film I can think of where he appears in all the sequels and we get to know more and more about him as a character in each film.

Ah, Hannibal! I don't know if I see MBV getting to a trilogy, but the point about the same killer and more of his backstory is a good one. As long as we got something new in the sequel!
