I loved Sheriff Dean!
 ...not sure it's a wise life choice for him though for the long haul.  He's not the type to inforce the rules...he's better at breaking them. He'd get bored.__________________

If they didn't need the ash so bad, I'm pretty sure that he would have let the pheonix live. You can see Dean sympathized with him, would have done the same thing if it had happened to him.
