I'm not so sure. He seemed pretty depressed last week's episode, like he was certain if he took these trials he would die. It was like his way of "going out fighting". I just want him to WANT to live!!

I've never seen Dean as a "sidekick", I've always thought that he usually gets more screentime and more developed relationships with other characters. But I can see why some people feel that way with the way storylines have been going the past few years.

Dean more or less just gets caught in the crossfire. I get what you're saying. I think the writers need to give Dean more plot and Sam more relationships (that aren't Amelia and her uselessness ). I was so disappointed in Purgatory, even though I didn't have high hopes based on the past with Dean's Hell experience. It was wasted, the whole first half doesn't even seemconnected with the second hlaf of the season. I keep wondering what the point of those ten episodes were. Even the annoying soulless Sam first half of the 6th season was more connected to the second half (and that deason was a huge mess, IMO).

I'm just sick and tired of the "what's wrong with Sam" storyline. It's so old. When he coughed up blood I thought "oh great, here we go again, something's wrong with him".
