I'm positive he had! And I'm happy he has Sam and Dean, too! In a way he need them as much as they need him.

^ Yep, they would get lost without each other. I've lost count how many times Bobby saved the boys' lives and vice versa.

Yup the boys have saved Bobby many times. I'm glad that even though Bobby and John were on bad terms the boys still felt comfortable going to Bobby for help.

Yup, when the boys first show up on Bobby's door step back in Salvation? Maybe Devil's trap? (the first time we see bobby anyway ) Dean says something like we didn't know if you'd be happy to see us with what went down between you and dad. (not an exact quote) but it was something like that.

Wow, that's interesting to know. I wonder what happened between John and Bobby. John seems to have quarreled with many people (e.g. with Ellen too).
Anyway, it's good that the boys still went to Bobby for help despite it.

At some point it becames clear that Boby threaten so shot John but we never got to know why, but my bet is that it was about Dean or Sam or both of them and how John did or did not treat them.

^ Me too! Even if we couldn't get JDM back, shoot it in a way that we see Bobby's pov or even Dean/Sam's pov. I'm willing to bet Bobby tried sticking up for Dean, maybe that is why Dean was nervous going to Bobby for help.

I think so too. Bobby has a super protective streak when it comes to Dean, I can see him butting heads with John to protect Dean.

Yeah, my favourite scene with Bobby and Dean is when Bobby finds out that Dean's made a deal to bring Sam back and Dean says he's only one year to live... The way Bobby calls Dean an idiot. I just love this scene and I kind of hated Ellen that she interrupted the conversation by showing up.

That is one of my favorites as well. The part where Dean says at least his life could mean something, and Bobby asks "and it didn't before?" It's beautiful and heartbreaking all at the same time, heartbreaking because Dean thinks that little of himself but beautiful because Bobby cares about him that much.
