Cute! Thanks Regina.

OMG does that say Bob The Builder where Rupert's name should be in the caption under the pic? That's so funny.

Rupert is featured in a new and wonderful spread in the July issue of 'Smack', a Brazilian-based magazine, with photos galore and an interview... unfortunately, a translation of the article is not yet available, but it's still great publicity and promotion for Rupert and that's a-okay with me!

Scans are courtesy of rupertgrint.com.br

I think it's probably stuff we've seen and read before but if anyone is able to translate what is talked about in the spread, just post it here, we'd be very grateful.

He's featured in another Brazilian publication titled 'Backstage' in their July issue. They used pics of his L.A. Times photoshoot, but it's still a wonderful spread.

Unfortunately, we don't have a translation yet, but it's probably nothing new we haven't already heard before. However, if or when a translation surfaces, it will be posted on the board.

What would you do to have a role in the Harry Potter movies? Seriously, if you were British, if the characters hadn't been choosen yet and you are a fan of the series? Well, the first thing would be read the instructions carefully and attend every solicitation, right?
Wrong. But it's a wrong that turned out to be right. At least to the most popular red-haired movie guy, the funny Rupert Grint. Besides sending the photos, the text and the video that the producers asked, Rupert created his own script and made a rap presentation imitating his theater teacher. Creativity is what doesn't lack for him. "I really wanted to be part of the cast. I love the books and I didn't believe when the opportunity appeared. I had to do something different that showed that I was best for the role!"
Well, obviously the plan worked! Because, does even one person, nowadays, that imagine Ron is different than Rupert? Does someone imagine Harry Potter's best friend different in any kind? Of course not! And couldn't be: He is british, red-haired, showed an enormous will to do the part and went through a lot to get it. Besides, Rupert is a real fan of the J.K Rowling's books. Among the actors, he is the first to read them and the one that is most anxious to read the next one. He is always saying that the author of the books is his favorite writer. And he likes to read! Among his favorite books there is "Of mice and men" of John Steinbeck, one of the important contemporary authors in all the world.
Oldest son of a gang of five siblings (he has three sisters and one brother), Rupert shares a lot of traits that are in common with his character, Ron: The big family, the red hair, and an uncontrollable fear of spiders. It is serious, he has fear of spiders and admits that he understands well why Ron doesn't go near them.
Rupert is going to be 18 in August, day 24. To celebrate the birthday the fans of the boy elaborated a project, a sort of a shirt contest. The boy is very fashionable and became a kind of a modern symbol in England, where the hair cut and the clothes full of personality of Rupert has been imitated by millions of boys. His mixture of t-shirts, different and beaten jeans with sneakers and brand clothes shows that there is Rupert. At the moment he is with the same hair cut that he was at the Goblet of Fire, longer and with a style a lot like the 60s, very much like London. At the decade of 60, there style was known as "mod." One of the characteristics was to use the hair long and the threads of hair shaggy. Only modern guys, like him, would be good in this look.

Scan 3
(Yellow part)
Rupert has already made other movies besides Harry Potter. The first one was right before the Chamber of Secrets, called Thunderpants, that is not exactly pleasant... the name in Portuguese mean something like pants of thunder, tells a story about a boy that farts a lot. Argh, Rupert! And besides he had curly hair in the movie (Heeeelppppp). In 2002, the movie was a big failure and didn't even got lauched in the national movies. One who finds the copy of the movie finds a rarity. But is it really worth watching?
Just after Goblet of fire, the actor went on another movie adventure outside the Hary Potter Movies: Driving Lessons. Now yes! It's another comedy that tells the changes of a boy that is shy and goes to the church a lot that goes to work at the house of an retired actres who is very eccentric.
The cast and the script of the movie are very elaborated and has everything that Rupert has been doing best in the Harry Potter movies: humor. Since the Chamber of Secrets, he rehearsed more comic and funny scenes. More mature and confident in his abilities, he has launched himself in an important project by the side of important actress like Laura Linney (Mystic River), and others.
Now, Rupert has finished the equivalent of high school in Brazil. He is the older than his partners Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe, and tends to use his free time to learn to drive and to choose in which productions he is going to work. Apparently, he is going to follow the steps of the comedian that he admires, Jim Carrey.
Rupert has been showing great promise to directors of movies and his decision on making movies like Driving Lessons could be his first step in to an independent and productive career after the end of the series. However, Rupert guaranteed that he intends to be on all the movies. "I really like to make the movies. I'm used to my cast of colleagues and the crew. We are very close and we like what we do.".
Fortunately!

*The black part is the filmography*
(The Red Part)
T-shirts for Birthday
The site RupertGrint.net is promoting a contest to draw an entire collection of t-shirts to celebrate his 18 birthday. But it's only for England. (Note from RG.N- Nope! The t-shirt contest is run online using e-mail, so anyone around the world can send in an entry!) The registrations only going to be accepted until day 5 of August. The instructions are kind like these:
1. The t-shirts can have photos and sentences, but no bad words or obscene images.
2. Only the three, maybe four, best designs will became t-****s.
3. The design can't be bigger than a sheet of paper.
4. Doesn't count t-shirts about Harry Potter or Spong Bob (That he loves), The sites want different stuff.
5. Famous brands or imitation of famous brands are not going to be accepted.
To the fans of other countrys, like Brazil, the site is promoting scrapbooks. Until now, the registered countries are England, USA, Canada, France, Germany, Hungary and Poland.
No Brazil! Where are the brasilians fans? The site says that a person can register on the site and include his country on the list of the ones that wants to send things to Rupert. They ask that the interested send a message to the site. Obviously the e-mail has to be in English!!! The guys at the site are very British! They accept collages, paintings, assembling of photos, drawings, finally, different and cool techniques. The scrapbooks are made by groups. More information is only at the site, and everything is in english.

In Driving Lessons, Rupert (unreadable word) is ready to face different parts and act with other casts.
(Title)
Changing the direction
(Article)
A good part in a movie can be kind of a curse in the life of an actor. Mostly when he performs the part with mastery. Getting free of the character can be as hard as playing it. This challenge waits Rupert Grint, who starts his first adult movie since he became Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter series.
Driving Lessons (Still without a name in Brazil) is a comedy that Rupert has been investing and getting better, even little by little, as the disturbed (*This word in Portuguese means someone who does the wrong thing in a cute way*) Ron. He will be Ben, a shy boy of 17 years old, that accompanies his mother to every mass possible. Rupert acts together with Laura Linney (Billy Elliot) and Julie Walters, the Mrs. Weasley of Harry Potter series.
Ben's mother is very religious. She make sure she educates him in a strict way and talks all the time by saying biblical passages. To make things worse, his father is a priest. At every vacation, his life becomes a horror show. While most of the boys travel, have fun, stroll and date, Ben goes to classes of bible reading and goes to religion discussion groups. Everything turnes upside down when he answer to an announcement in the magazine "Hello Jesus" to work for a retired actress. Evie is nothing like we expect an old lady that looks for help at a Christian newspaper to be: She says a lot of bad words, drinks and barely knows where the nearst church is. She drives Ben crazy when shows him that life outside the religion classes that his mother make him attend to exists.
Picnics, interpretation classes and driving lessons are some of the things that Evie shows the boy, together with an opportunity of meet a beautiful girl of his age and all the infinite possibilities of this date.
The movie reminds us of "Harold and Maude", that tells the story of another boy, a morbid boy that is always acting death scenes to make sure his parents notice him. When he meets Maude, a neighbor of 80 years old, the boy discovers that passing the life thinking of the death is a big waste of time.
The two movies talks about growing up and discoveries. They are two movies that helps to show that are two ways of life besides the ones that we are used to, but we is needed courage to see them and enjoy them.

Sorry for the double post but I wanted these translations separate so it'd be easier to link when I put them up in the first post.

________

Now for the translation for his one-page spread in 'Backstage':

Quote:
The New Princes

One is a wizard, the other a prince. Meet the two best actors of the season and their wonderful stories.

Fantastic animals, wizards and witches fighting for power in a magical land, these are part of the ingredients for two of the most important magical series of literature. The Chronicles of Narnia was written by CS Lewis in 1950, and the first Harry Potter, by JK Rowling, hit bookstores in 1997 (in Brazil in 2000). Both series are divided in seven parts and were adapted into movies. Meet now the actors who brought to life two of their most important characters: William Moseley and Ruper Grint, or, Peter Pevensie, prince of Narnia and Ron Weasley, the wizard stealing the scene in Hogwarts.

Rupert Grint
Name: Rupert Alexander Grint
Date of Bith: 24/08/1988
County: Hertfordshire, England
Family: parents, Nigel and Jo, and 4 siblings: James, Georgina, Samantha and Charlotte.
Height: 1,78 m
Sport: football
Curiosity: Rupert can speak some phrases and numbers in German and play the guitar.
Career: it all began when Rupert found out about an audition for the part of Ron Weasley for the Harry Potter series. He had never acted before but decided to be creative and made a rap about how much he would like to play Ron, so he got the part.

While Driving Lessons isn’t here…
A tip to wait for Driving Lessons is to watch Harold and Maude, a movie with a similar plot outline, with the actress Ruth Gordon and actor Bud Cort. She is Maude, an 80 year old lady who enjoys every day of her life to do new and fun things. He is Harold Parker Chasen, that on his 20 years became a specialist on performing death scenes. He’s obsessed by death, loves going to funerals and drives a funeral car. When he met Maude, he discovers that there are people more insane than him, but those people live much happier. Harold becomes enchanted by Maude and announces, full of decision, that he’ll marry her.

The movie is from 1971 and can be found on blockbuster. It’s worth the try, check it out!

Learning to Drive
In Driving Lessons, Ben will learn how to become an adult and face real life with Evie. And Rupert shows that he learned to act with different actors and interpret main characters. Check out what the actor said about his experience:

Did you watch the movie with the public?

Rup: Not yet. Just with my family.

Why did you want to do this movie, the second out of the Harry Potter series?

Rup: I was in the middle of the fourth Harry Potter movie when I read the script. I really liked it. I thought it would be cool. Then I met the director, and every one was cool. It worked. It was something different from Harry Potter, which was also a reason for me to accept the project, because it wasn’t a movie full of special effects and yet it was a low budget production. I’m learning to drive in real life too. It worked very well because it was a break between the two Harry Potter movies.

We are used to see you and Julie Walters in comical scenes, but, in this movie you’ll be more serious and she’ll be funnier. Was it hard to control your comedic instincts?

Rup: Sure. It’s another difference that I liked very much. Ben is very different from Ron, yeah.

This was the first movie for Jeremy Brock as a director. How was he in relation with the more experienced ones?

Rup: There is no difference, really. Jeremy is really good, especially because he also wrote the script. He knew exactly what he wanted. He’s a nice guy, I liked him very much. He’s cool.

Are there any experiences from your life that helped you to give Ben life?

Rup: Obviously I look more like Ron, but I think every adolescent has something from Ben, because the story is about growing up. I identified with him, yeah.

As much as in Harry Potter as in Driving Lessons you are playing very well the part of the clumsy boy, kind of uncomfortable with things. Are you like this in real life or do these characters have nothing to do with you?

Rup: They have a little, yeah. To Ron, it's real hard to dance, and Ben doesn’t have much style with girls either. There are similar things with each character, but I think that that’s part of being adolescent.

You are going on 18. Do you think you’re going to do more films like Driving Lessons?

Rup: I think so. It’ll be interesting because Harry Potter is a giant event, and thousands see the movies. It’ll be weird.

How is the shooting of Order of the Phoenix?

Rup: We’ve done almost half of it. But there’s a long way ahead. We’re going well.

Scan 6
He’s got it all!

The new Harry Potter movie comes out with a special attention to Ron. And who celebrates it but Rupert, who has grown up in the role.

Birthday, pre-launching of a new movie and the re-start of the Order of the Phoenix shootings are some of Rupert’s things to do in the month of July and August. Easy, huh? Ron’s character has grown in Goblet of Fire and will keep on growing in Order of the Phoenix. For those who haven’t read the book yet, we’ll give some cool data: he finally gets on the Quiditch team and will become a Head Boy with Hermione.

Rupert says the shootings are half way through, but scratches his head when commenting that there is still much to be done. Who already has read the book knows, innit? “The shooting is going well, I think, but we have many things yet, but the rhythm is good. We’ll go back to shoot in the beginning of July.

Rupert says that the script from this episode, the first one not to come out of Steven Kloves’ hand, responsible for scripting all the other episodes, is very loyal to J.K. Rowling’s work. The actor says he thinks it’s interesting having different directors for the movies. The exception was Chris Columbus, who directed both The Philosopher’s Stone and The Chamber of Secrets.

“Of course, having a different director for each movie is kinda scary. But we’ve been lucky because so far the results have being great.”

Rup says that his character keeps on winning places while he grows. For him, this is the movie in which Ron becomes an independent boy and with his own life distant from Harry’s. One of the differences on the filming process for Rupert, this year, is that he won’t have anymore classes during the shooting. Dan, Emma and Rup had tutors that gave them classes between takes.

The schedule and compromising of the actors to the movie is big, so the actors couldn’t follow traditional schooling. “Ah, I finished my course and now I’m free from classes”, he celebrates, already informing that he has no intention of going to university.

Rupert says he misses the set and the chat with his cast and crew mates, from whom he became friends with after four years of working together. He says that even if the filming takes a lot of his time, the weekends he lives a pretty normal life. “Above it all, there’s a huge break between the movies, so you can do a lot of things during that time, such as travel, relax, take care of life.”

The actor lives only half hour from the studios where the filming is made and he loves it. “Many people here come from Leeds and Ireland, so they have to be happy with hotels, while I have my own room and we share a game salon with a ping-pong table.” He still manages to find time to play the guitar and practice in the spare time between shots.

When the Harry Potter phenomenon began, Rup said that the weight of being a famous guy was really low. Now, he says he feels sick, sometimes, at being so recognized anywhere he goes. “As a matter of fact, my life is pretty normal. The only difference is that I end up being recognized in public places, which isn’t really a big problem, it’s just kinda weird. Nothing ever goes out of control; I don’t need to go out disguised or something. Even though if I had it would be hard, since I can’t really hide my long red hair.”

Rupert likes Ron very much. And he says that after all these years he learned to understand his questions and clumsiness: “Me and the other actors are acting together for so long now that we don’t have to pretend we’re friends anymore.”

Scan 7
Things that should happen on the last book

Harry and Ron will appear and disappear(apparate). If that ability is anyhow related with flying, Harry will be good on that, while Ron will need to have more caution and work a little harder.
Harry will have to pass on his uncle’s house one last time.
The three of them will go to Bill and Fleur’s wedding before going after horcruxes.
If they go back to school, they’ll have to face the final and most hard exams of the school routine.
There will be no Quiditch matches.
The final battle between Harry and Voldemort will happen. We hope Harry wins.
Harry and Ron will never read “Hogwarts: a History”, Hermione. Never.

Snape goes to Edinburgh.

The actor Alan Rickman, Professor Snape, is taking to Edinburgh the theatre play 'My name is Rachel Corrie', that he directs and helped writing. Besides, he’s getting ready to begin the filming of The Villa Golitsyn. Part of the shooting will begin now, before the cast re-starts The Order of the Phoenix.

The Scotsman, the site that originally let us know that Driving Lessons would be playing at the Edinburgh International Film Festival, has posted a new bit of news for us in their latest report!

"The film's stars are expected to make an appearance when it is aired at the festival on August 26, ahead of its September 8 release."

Be aware that there is no mention of this on the Edinburgh International Film Festival page!

Thanks RG.net

Grint's a grower

Jeremy Brock took some comfort watching Rupert Grint, best known as Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter movies, play his first lead role in a film.
To start with, Mr Brock wrote and directed the film, Driving Lessons, and in a sense, he was watching a little bit of himself.

The film stars Mr Grint, Julie Walters and Laura Linney. A lot of it was shot in North London and some in Scotland.

'It's about a rite of passage, a boy who grows up, out of shyness and into self-confidence,' Mr Brock told me.

He confesed 'that boy is me overcoming my shyness'.

Slivers of Driving Lessons' story are autobiographical, but a lot is pure fiction.

Mr Grint's character befriends a veteran actress (Ms Walters). They become friends and her home becomes a refuge for the young man because his mother, played by Ms Linney, is a bit of a horror.

In real life, Mr Brock did live in the basement of Peggy Ashcroft's posh Hampstead home and, as in the film, his father was a vicar.

'Peggy let me dream of being a writer. I don't think I had the confidence to think like that before I met her,' Brock told me.

Well, he grew up to write Judi Dench's Oscar-nominated role Mrs Brown and other movies, so it must have worked.

Driving Lessons will be screened at the Edinburgh International Film Festival next month and goes on release in September.
