Thanks to Gemma for the info

    Quote:
”I went to my friend's Pantomime in Hertfordshire (north of London) last Friday (Jan. 13th). Rupert was there as we used to belong to the youth section of the group. He was SO nice!! He signed autographs and posed for photos and was really polite, a bit shy and really gracious!!! I am not a kid and I felt a bit silly asking him for a photo, but he was a gentleman and put me at my ease!!! He hasn't let fame get to his head at all, what a SUPERSTAR!!!!”

”Temime recalls the teenage actors were almost as excited about their gowns and tuxedos as their characters – all except Rupert Grint, whose character Ron, is saddled with hand-me-down dress robes from the '80s. “The outfit really shows the bad taste of the Weasleys,” she explains. “He just said, “I'm used to it now. I suppose I have to look ugly again.'”
Thanks Gemma for letting us know

However, it has become quite apparent that the poll is rigged and not a true and fair survey. There are people who will do anything so that Rupert never wins. We don't really need polls to tell us that Rupert is #1 in ours and many fans' hearts. If you wish to continue to vote for Rupert however, please feel free to do so.

Just updating with the latest Rupert interview, which he gave Alloy

Here's the transcript:

Quote:
Driving Lessons is your first big gig since starring in the Harry Potter flicks. How does it feel?

Rupert Grint: It's a bit nerve-wracking because it's [totally] different than anything I've ever done before.

Was it weird to film without Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson?

RG: It was quite weird because on Harry Potter, the main bit of the cast is all kids. There weren't many kids on this one.

Why did you decide to do a different type of movie now?

RG: The Harry Potter movies are so long, and as good as they are, it's nice to do something different. This came up, and I figured it would be a nice change. It's a much more grown up film -- there's a bit of swearing in it. Also, I was looking forward to the driving bit.

Do you have your driver's license?

RG: I'm learning. I'm not bad. I've been learning for a long time, but I'm getting there.

Spoiler:
You had your first onscreen kiss in this flick. How was it?

RG: That was a bit different. It wasn't as bad as I thought.

In the Harry Potter movies, you did a lot of acting with a blue screen, where special effects were added in later. How did it feel to just do straight acting in a natural setting?

RG: It was different. [With] every Harry Potter, [there's] been blue screens -- we've had to act with nothing. It was much easier not having to do that this time. There are no special effects with this one; it's more straightforward, which made it more appealing to do because of the contrast.

Who do you relate to more -- Ron Weasley or Ben?

RG: Ron. Ben's sort of shy and really sort of quiet and a bit complicated. I think I'm more laid back.

How does it feel to have girls fawn over you now?

RG: It was really hard to get used to -- it was a bit weird at first. Now, I think I'm all right with it.

Would you ever date a fan?

RG: Yeah, I think so, if they were nice enough.

Would you ever date a co-star?

RG: It would be a bit weird -- seeing them everyday. I don't know if it would work.

What do you look for in a girl?

RG: A good sense of humor.
I'll add the info to the first post.

ETA

According to Tao of rupert-grint.us Rupert will be in New York City at the Tribeca Film Festival for the North American Premiere of 'Driving Lessons', which will be taking place Sunday, April 30th. If any fans here live or will be in the area, now's your chance to possibly get to see him, and please be sure to share your experience with us.

The screening will be at the Pace U Schimmel Center @ 8:30pm.

The possibility of more pics!! And maybe an interview!!

Amy (baileycat) let us know in the 'Driving Lessons' thread that there are two new clips of the film up on comingsoon.net.

You can view the clips at THIS LINK. You'll need Quicktime to view.

They also conducted an interview with him where he talks a little bit about both DL and OotP. You can read it HERE.

Quote:
ComingSoon.net: "Driving Lessons" is playing for the first time in the U.S. at the Tribeca Film Festival. It hasn't been released in the UK yet, but has it done any festivals over there?
Rupert Grint: I think it's done one in Dublin, Ireland, but that's it, really.

CS: Have you had a chance to see it with an audience yet?
Grint: No, not yet. Just with my family.

CS: How did you find time to make this movie?
Grint: Well, just in between the fourth one and the fifth one. It was only a six-week shoot filmed down in London, so it was quite easy to fit in, really.

CS: I know Jeremy's written a lot of great movies, but what was it about this movie that made you want to make it only your second non-Potter movie?
Grint: I was in the middle of the fourth "Harry Potter" film, and I got sent this script. I just really liked it. I thought it would be a good thing to do. Then, I met Jeremy, and everyone there were just really nice people, so it just happened like that, really. It was just something so different from Harry Potter, that was quite an appealing part of it, because it was just no special effects, sort of lower budget, and a lot of driving, which sort of appealed to me quite a lot, as well. I'm actually learning now to drive in real life. It just worked really well, because there was a little gap between the two "Harry Potter" films, and it slotted in nicely.

CS: Any idea why Jeremy picked you for this role?
Grint: I dunno, really. (laughs)

CS: Had Julie Walters and Laura Linney already signed on to do the movie when you decided to come on board?
Grint: I've heard rumors that Julie Walters wanted to do it, because she was Mrs. Weasley, my mum, in the "Harry Potter" films, so it was quite good to work with her again.

CS: We're used to see you doing more comedy, but in this, you're more of the straight man to Julie. Was it hard to play down your instincts for humor?
Grint: Sure. That was another difference that I quite liked as well, cause [Ben]'s a lot different than Ron, obviously.

CS: Did the fact that you've worked with her before help the dynamic between the two of you for this movie?
Grint: It's quite a nerve-wracking thing, because I've not really done any other films, apart from the Harry Potters. Because that crew is so tight, a whole sort of family atmosphere up there, it's quite daunting going into a whole new thing, and I didn't know anyone. It really helped to have someone I actually knew.

CS: Really? In the "Potter" movies, you've worked with so many different directors, so you would think you'd be more comfortable working with different people.
Grint: Yeah, I suppose, but the whole thing's still pretty new to me, and it was a bit scary at first. It's a much smaller crew as well, but it was a really good six weeks.

CS: This is Jeremy's first movie as a director. How did that compare to working with so many more experienced directors?
Grint: About the same really. Jeremy was really good, 'cause obviously, he wrote the script as well. He knew everything about what he wanted, so he was really describing everything. He was just a really nice bloke, as well. I really got on with Jeremy. He was cool.

CS: Because of the red hair, Laura Linney looks like she could really be your mom, but she was one of the few non-Brits in the movie. How did she get on with the British accent?
Grint:
She was the only American, yeah, but Laura was really cool. I got on with her. She was really good actually, able to turn [the accent] on and off perfectly.

CS: Were there any experiences in your own life that you were able to draw from to play Ben?
Grint:
Obviously, I relate more to the character of Ron, more than Ben, but I guess every teenager can sort of relate to something in Ben, because it's the story of him growing up. I could relate to certain things, yeah.

CS: Both in this and in "Potter," you're really good at playing the awkward, uncomfortable type. Is that a natural part of yourself or is that nothing like you really are?
Grint:
Slightly. It depends really what it is. Ron finds it really hard to get it on for the dance and Ben is quite awkward with the girls as well. That's something quite similar in both characters, but it's sort of typical teenage behavior, I guess.

CS: You'll be 18 in a few months, so are you hoping to break away from the "Potter" films and do more films like "Driving Lessons"?
Grint:
"Driving Lessons" has been a really good fun thing to do, and I'll probably like to do more of those little things. It's just nice to do something a bit different, because the "Harry Potter" films, as much fun as I have doing them, they do take quite a long time to make, and they do take up most of your time. I would like to do more in the future, definitely.

CS: Do you think a lot of Harry Potter fans will go to see this movie to see you in it?
Grint:
Yeah, I guess so. That would be kind of interesting. I mean, Harry Potter is sort of a huge thing and has a huge following, so it's quite strange.

CS: How far along are you on the new "Potter" movie?
Grint:
The fifth one? We're almost halfway there. We only sort of started, but there's still a long way to go, but it's going really well.

CS: I haven't read the fifth book yet, so does Ron finally get a girlfriend?
Grint:
No, not in this one. There's quite a lot happening in this one, and it's a really big book. We got a new director on this one, as well. He's actually a mate of Jeremy's, so that was quite cool.

CS: Did you notice a big change in the writing, since this is the first one not written by Steven Cloves?
Grint:
I guess it's still quite faithful to the book, and it's a really good script, actually.

CS: How is it working with all those different directors on the "Potter" movies? Have you been able to get something new from each one?
Grint:
Sure, obviously there's a different director every year on the Potter films, and it's always a bit scary honestly, because we got to know Chris Columbus when he did the first two films, and we really got to know him. It's quite scary having a new director each time, but we've been really lucky. We've had some really good ones.

CS: We got to see a lot more of Ron in the last movie. Is the character going more in that direction with this next movie?
Grint:
Yeah, it's more of that really, just growing up and getting more independent than the fourth one.

CS: Do you still end up getting a lot of downtime while making the "Potter" films or are you working a normal 9-to-5 schedule?
Grint:
Yeah, it's pretty much that. The "Harry Potter" schedule is sort of every day, five days a week, and on "Driving Lessons," we were doing six day weeks for six weeks, and that was quite tough. It was pretty heavy going, though it was good fun.

CS: Do you still have to go to class on the "Potter" set?
Grint:
I used to, but now I've left school quite recently, 'cause it was getting quite hard to juggle the tutoring with the film. I'm not really an academic sort of person, so I just thought I'd leave and concentrate more on the film. Thankfully, I don't have to do that anymore.

CS: So no plans on going to university?
Grint:
No, no, not really.

CS: Now that you've done four and a half "Potter" movies, has that pretty much taken over your life or are you able to separate yourself when you're off set so you don't think about it?
Grint:
The "Harry Potter" films do take up most of your time, except weekends off, but I have a pretty normal life anyway outside of filming, so it's not that bad. After the films, you got quite a big gap in between, so you can get a holiday and relax in that time.

CS: Do you get to stay at home while you're working on the movie?
Grint:
I live about a half hour away from the studios, a place called Watford. A lot of them come up from Leeds, and there's two from Ireland, so they all have to be put up in hotels. I'm quite lucky, in that sense. We've all got our own dressing rooms, and they've got a big games room with pool tables and table tennis.

CS: Have you had a chance to work on your music at all in your spare time?
Grint:
It's a really good fun job. I definitely would like to do it in the future. I want to try to learn to play the guitar. That would be really cool. I play the didgeridoo, actually.

CS: Since you've spent most of your teen years as an actor/movie star, is it hard for you to have a normal life?
Grint:
Sure, yeah. I mean, I live a pretty normal way, the only difference being that I get recognized occasionally when we go out, but that's never really been that much of a problem.

CS: Do you have a special disguise you wear when you go out, maybe dark hair and glasses, so people don't recognize you?
Grint:
(laughs) It's quite hard because my hair's quite long anyway, and long ginger hair stands out quite a bit. It's never really a problem; it doesn't get out of control.
I'll add this info to the first post.

Hi Regina!

Adotas is reporting that Moviefone's new site, celebrating the Tribeca Film Festival, will be putting up a new feature from a special series they've put together.

How does this relate to Rupert, you may ask?

Well...

Quote:
...they’ve shot their own web-exclusive series, entitled “Unscripted,” in which actor and filmmaker attendees perform candid interviews of one another. “Unscripted” began filming yesterday, on the first day of the festival, and will begin its 10-12 episode run on the site later this week, featuring conversations between David Duchovny and Loan Gruffudd, Rupert Grint and Laura Linney, Jeremy London and Katheryn Winnick, among others.
No word as yet on when Rupert's interview is going to take place but as soon as information becomes available, it'll be posted in this thread.

This should be a really interesting and cool thing to watch! It should be really neat! I can't wait for it!!

GRINT LEAVES SCHOOL

HARRY POTTER star RUPERT GRINT has quit school so he can focus exclusively on acting.

The 17-year-old, who plays Harry's Hogwarts pal RON WEASLEY in the magical JK ROWLING movies, is overjoyed because academic studies have never been his strong point.

He says, "I've left school quite recently. Thankfully I don't have to do that anymore. It was getting quite hard to juggle the tutoring with the film.

"I'm not really an academic sort of person so I just thought I'd leave and
concentrate more on films."

Grint stars alongside veteran British actress JULIE WALTERS in the new coming of age drama DRIVING LESSONS. (MP/WNTEX/SC)

He took his GCSEs (General Certificate of Secondary Education) last year and as stated he was never very academic, so higher education just isn't for him... at least... not at the moment... however, he's found something which he wants to pursue full-time... his acting career.

Thanks for that article, Sandi.

From the content, it dates from around last year, probably sometime during the Summer, because he mentions having just finished school and also because he had started filming DL in and around that time.

Sorry, just needed to update this thread with the latest news item...

Here's the transcript of Rupert's and Jeremy's 'interview' on Moviefone's Unscripted, which you can download at ICM. The info has been added to the first post.

Quote:
Rupert: Hi! I’m Rupert Grint. You’re watching Moviefone’s Unscripted, here with Jeremy Brock, we’re both here… um… for our film Driving Lessons at the Tribeca Film Festival… um… we’re going to interview each other with your questions and some of our own as well.

*****

R: This is your first time directing… um… what was it like to jump in the director’s chair?

Jeremy: Uh… scary! Um… but I have wanted to do it for years… um… I started writing screenplays like 15 years ago and about 10 years ago I did a director’s course at the BBC and thought this is it, I’m going to start now and unfortunately I then had four kids and…

R: Sure, yeah.

J: I had to work and stuff and the writing sort of took off, so I finally did Driving Lessons, started writing Driving Lessons about 7 years ago I think it was…

R: Really?!

J: In reality, being in the director’s chair was very tough because you don’t realize until you’re doing it, you are fielding so many questions…

R: Yeah…

J: All the time…

R: Sure, yeah.

J: And… and I was very conscious of wanting to be there for you…

R: Right, yeah.

J: And for Laura and Julie, Laura Linney and Julie Walters

******

J: How are you similar to the character of Ben in the movie?

R: How am I similar to Ben… um… dunno really… I noticed there’s a… there’s a few… I can relate to a few things with Ben… I mean, I’m not really… um… the most confident person all the time ‘cause Ben he’s quite shy… um…

J: Yeah, there was [_________]

R: Yeah, exactly, yeah. I’ve got a little bit of that and… um… I dunno really, the whole dancing thing (laughing)

J: Yeah.

R: I didn’t have to do anything with that ‘cause in the film I have to learn to salsa dance and um…

J: Which I have to say was a joy to watch…

R: Ah… I know… I was…

J: We only had one day…

R: Yeah…

J: One day to do the whole thing, rehearse it and learn it and…

R: It was crazy…

J: It was… a crazy day.

R: Yeah, I know… ‘cause Ben had to be… Ben he wasn’t really supposed to be a natural really was he?

J: No… I wanted to make sure that you weren’t… you know that kind of Hollywood…

R: Mmmm

J: thing… let’s do it here folks…

R: Yeah… (laughs)

J: And they’re all too practiced… it was really nice to see…

*******

J: I want to ask you… um… uh… the kiss…

R: Oh, yeah!

J: The kiss… um… ‘cause when we… when we were getting our character Brionny in the movie… um… you know… uh… the boy Ben finally gets to have his first kiss. How… weird was that?

R: Yeah… that was quite strange really…

J: ‘Cause that… for me as a director… that was one of the things I was really conscious of wanting to try and handle well… ‘cause I thought you handled it incredibly well. That was the most ‘family’ thing I experienced… it was the most like being your father…

R: Really?!

J: That moment…

R: Yeah…

J: ‘Cause I felt I couldn’t ask you how you were feeling ‘cause I know you were aware it was coming…

R: Yeah… no…

J: I felt it wasn’t appropriate somehow…

R: Yeah…

J: It’s not my place…

R: Oh, yeah.

J: I thought you handled it really well…

R: No… that was weird… yeah… dunno… ‘cause the whole crew as well… it was just… no… that felt a bit strange…

J: Yup.

R: How do you think the British and American moviegoing audiences will differ?

J: I think that… the feeling I get here… being here in New York is that people are much more direct and more confident and one of the things about the movie is that the movie is about people who are from a culture where you aren’t as confident and you don’t express yourself so much, it’s one of the keys of the film, so I think there is a kind of probably fascination from an American audience’s point of view… we’re the culture that so… that apparently speaks the same language but is divided by the Atlantic and divided by thousand other cultural differences and I think that that’s one of the things which American audiences would enjoy… I hope

J: What’s the difference between doing a movie like Driving Lessons and doing a movie like Harry Potter?

R: pfff… um… yeah… I did notice a lot of differences… um… really… just ‘cause obviously Driving Lessons is much sort of low budget sort of thing… and… um… that’s really one of the reasons I sort of wanted to do it really because it was so different. My first ever film was Harry Potter, I was straight into this sort of massive…

J: machine…

R: Yeah.

J: Exactly.

R: Just no blue screen special effects… just… um… it was really nice to do something much more simple and just really good… really… yeah…

J: And the six weeks of shooting…

R: Six weeks! Yeah.

J: Remind me how long it would take… I mean, if you shot on Harry Potter for six weeks, what would you have shot?

R: Well… that’s two big scenes…

J: Yup.

R: Two… um… big scenes of Harry Potter, yeah.

J: And you shot the movie in six weeks.

R: Six weeks, yeah! We were… doing like 4 scenes a day?

J: Yup

R: We…

J: We shot 560 set ups in…

R: That’s amazing!!

J: six weeks.

R: Yeah.

J: And you were in… you were in, I think, pretty much every scene bar about 10.

R: Really?

J: Yup.

J: The 3 things I love about movies are… ?

R: Just love the… um… just being someone else like… um… I dunno… ‘cause as I said, I’m not really the most upfront sort of person… I dunno… when you’ve got a character, you can sort of hide behind it… and comedy movies are my sort of… um… favorite things and… um… ‘cause they can make you laugh… all these sorts of different emotions like make you sad and… um…

J: And also… you see a lot of DVDs!

R: DVDs, yeah.

J: You sort of can obviously watch movies….

R: Exactly

J: It’s a huge trend…

R: Oh, yeah!

******

R: Thank you to Moviefone…

J: Thanks for watching and sending us your questions, we’re here to premiere Driving Lessons at the Tribeca Film Festival starring Rupert Grint, Julie Walters and Laura Linney… Bye!

R: See… *giggles* (squeakily) Bye!!

J & R: (laughter)

Thanks for that article, Sandi.

From the content, it dates from around last year, probably sometime during the Summer, because he mentions having just finished school and also because he had started filming DL in and around that time.
Ok thanks for the info Darcy.

I have no doubt we will definetely see him more than HP and DL in the future.
