They choose not to or if they do notice, they had "mental illness" so they aren't really bad.

Nope, that's a problem and I am not sure how they will deal with it. It isn't easy to change some people's mentality on certain issues.
On another topic, since I hadn't seen a pic of Dan in like a year or 2. I looked up Dan's photoshoot for some magazine in Thailand and found this pic. Not feeling the beard. It needs to be neater  __________________
