And advice on writing (which I always give out even though I'm not, you know, some sort of writing goddess or anything): 1.) Characterization is the most important thing. You have to keep the personalities of the people in mind when you write them...things that they WOULD do, things they WOULD say. Of course, it's nice to play around with them and maybe make them into caricatures of who they are...some bombastic exaggeration of the qualities they most emphasize on purpose...but never sacrifice a good characterization for plot. Or smut. 2.) GRAMMAR. Sure, I understand typos...those you can go back and fix later. But grammar? Proper spelling? First letters in sentences are capitalized. Commas exist, and they are good. Two independent clauses can be joined by semi-colons. Proper nouns are capitalized as well. No "net speak." Sometimes, just going on to some of these teeny bopper forums where they speak in net speak and in bright colors and they don't follow proper grammar rules just gives me an eyesore... Mods: do we have some sort of rule about this?  3.) Exposition is good, but never get too flowery with it. Think of how you yourself view the world: intense moments can sometimes heighten perceptions, but everyday moments, not really. If you're eating a peanut butter sandwhich you're not going to remember the way the light was reflecting beautifully off of the window...you're just eating a sandwhich. Save that kind of stuff for real important moments or else you'll just sound fake. 4.) And always remember: they are guys in their late twenties/early thirties. They'll think like guys in that age range--we don't like them thinking like they're teenage girls. I see that a lot at slacken_ties and it's ridiculous. Yeah, that was my writing advice. I'm not a writing snob...I like people to write, to check out individual styles and quirks...but I'd rather you do your best right off the bat than wait for some elitist slag to rip your writing to pieces without giving you the chance to make up for it. I've seen it done even in cases when I didn't think the writer did bad at all...a lot of it stems from jealousy I suppose, but then it all boils down to personal taste as well.
