Off Topic #26: This Thread is in Need of Some Creativity

My New Year was good, Katie, thanks! I spent the first hours of January 1st at the riverside of the club/pub area we have here. It was awesome, my friend and I were just talking and the weather was so nice because it was all windy and stuff. I had to force myself to go home at 1+am New Year's Day was boring, I didn't do anything much though. But hey, it's okay.

Yeah The Virgin Suicides is very heavy going, but I love Jeffery Eugenides' writing style. It's poetry, pretty much. And sad books! There are so many. I cried at the last bit in The Amber Spyglass, it was so sad! And there was Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran-Foer as well. I tend to cry very easily in books/movies though

Ann: It's really not that big of a pit.
Leslie: We can do some of those things.

Thanks for the new thread Gwen!
Aw it sounds like you had a lovely New Years I stayed at home, lol.

Yeah his writing style is stunning! I have Middlesex sitting on my bookshelf waiting to be read too. Have you read it?
Aw I've been crying over everything recently, it's terrible. But I get so attached to characters I can't help it!

Does everyone have any plans for the weekend?

Thanks for the new thread, Gwen. I had a good time in MI, and then I got sick at the end of the trip.

I had fun at the Rose Bowl Game on Tuesday, too. Then I went to see all of the parade floats on Wednesday.

Too bad it's raining here now.

Plans for the weekend? Well yesterday I went for a gathering, followed by my friend's 21st birthday party. It was quite fun. And today I went for yoga class (my first - and it was rather, err, painful) and slept a lot

I hope you guys had fun! I haven't read Middlesex, no, but I've heard of it. What's it about?

Aw Roz Are you feeling better now?

Aw Dali I'm back at Uni tomorrow so I know how you feel. I hate it when the holidays are over

Oh cool! You had an eventful weekend Gwen Oh Yoga, I really want to go to a class. Well I've not read it yet but it's about a hermaphrodite, here's what Amazon has as the blurb:
Quote:
"I was born twice: first, as a baby girl, on a remarkably smogless Detroit day in January of 1960; and then again, as a teenage boy, in an emergency room near Petoskey, Michigan, in August of 1974." And so begins Middlesex, the mesmerizing saga of a near-mythic Greek American family and the "roller-coaster ride of a single gene through time." The odd but utterly believable story of Cal Stephanides, and how this 41-year-old hermaphrodite was raised as Calliope, is at the tender heart of this long-awaited second novel from Jeffrey Eugenides, whose elegant and haunting 1993 debut, The Virgin Suicides, remains one of the finest first novels of recent memory.
I thought it sounded hella awesome, and when I got it Waterstones was selling it for only £2

I've heard really good things about Middlesex, Katie. Enjoy it.

I'm still a bit stuffed up, but feeling better. Only I ate too many desserts and no dinner last night and got a nasty headache this morning.

At least it gives me time to play around with .

Wow, good on you for doing Yoga Gwen! I remember the first time I did Yoga... that was tough!! Everyone was so flexible in the class :wow:

Hope your first day at uni wasn't painful Katie! My first day at work wasn't as bad as I thought... at least I get next Friday off for this big Festival that's in town Can't wait!

And here I thought most people wouldn't like being in an office I enjoyed my time temping as the office administrator for a month or so, though. Awesome, glad you're enjoying your internship.

Middlesex sounds great! I should go read it. Only, I can never find it in the library and I don't buy books generally (strange considering how much I love reading, but anyway). Yeah my weekend was quite heavy wasn't it? It usually isn't though.

That is so true Dalz! I remember feeling so useless because everyone was so flexible and I wasn't. Well I guess I'll get better over time. And what are you working as?

I think enjoying it depends on what exactly is it you do on the office I'm in the marketing/advertising area, so I do a lot of creative and fun stuff

Cool. what are you doing, exactly? And how long is the internship?

Oh and by the way, when I saw that the Jensen board got customised I first thought of how happy Katie would be

It's one month, 'cause my classes start on February and I won't have time to continue...basically what I do is work on sales presentations (like the layouts, etc), and on logos and stuff like that. Sometimes I get stuck with stuff that has nothing to do with my area, like updating directories and organizing files, but it's still fun
