But see...that's exactly whatI think they're doing!

I was expressing my fears to Robyn just last night about all of this...and I too used Bono's quote!

I'm starting to get this fear of the new album...that they're doing what Coldplay did. Coldplay made me fall in love with their first album, a good BRILLIANT album, and amazing piece of musicianship that I still listen to and fall over myself for...

But fast forward to X&Y and it's like I want to shoot myself.

X&Y is an album of stadium song affter stadium song after stadium song...and it gets monotonous and boring! I like a littel variety in my artists, thank you very much, and Hot Fuss provided that. So did Parachutes. With Parachutes you could have a song like "Yellow" which was meant to bring the house down, while still get this quiet little inconspicuous thing like "We Never Change." On Hot Fuss we got a n ATTID alongside a Jenny...and an STM and Midnight Show and a Change Your Mind and an Indie Rock and Roll which is amazing for being half anthem half Indie...it's brilliant! I get chills!

And I'm not getting chills with WYWY and it's tripping me out...

Like, with Hot Fuss, I heard all of their influences. All of them. And remember that was one of the reasons I loved them? I loved them for using The Cure in Everything Will Be Allright...for that bit of Bowie in Mr. Brightside, for that nod to The Police in STM, for Duran Duran on On Top...

Now all I'm hearing is U2 and Brucey and I *hate* Bruce and while I love U2 I don't want to hear a U2 album. I want to hear The Killers, who take everything they've got in them and make it all have sex until it produces these warped versions of music that I love.

Now, I don't think Sam's Town is going to be one epic rock anthem ballad after another...so far reviews have variety in songs...but that's how A Ruch of Blood to the Head was. There was variety there, in that Sophomore album, but not as much as in Parachutes. And by X&Y it was gone, all destroyed in a desperate attem to write "catchy stadium songs that conquer the world," but lack true feeling because they force it in so hard.

I better hear some Talking Heads on Sam's Town or I might just lose all faith.

But NAthalie...if they do this to me...if by the third album all I'm hearing is U2 knockoffs, I shall start listening to FALL OUT BOY AND PANIC! AT THE DISCO AND I'LL CUT MYSELF!!!

At least Fall Out Boy will still be delivering catchy basslines...

*runs*

I'm hating how nonexistant Mark is in WYWY. I mean, that song is catchy as hell, but it just rubs me the wrong way!

Uncle Jo(h)nny is the reason why I know this album is going to be good.

And since this is the influence thread...where have I heard "play forgiveness" before. Where?

WHERE?

It's driving me insane!

I know where I've heard the lyric "in a little while..."

Hey, now, I like Panic! at the Disco.

I don't think the whole album will be Springsteen-like. Because then I would have to kill Brandon and he knows that...so he's not going to test me. :-P

Damnit, now you're getting me worried about it! I was all, "Yes, freaking right, it's going to be awesome!" and now I'm like, "Oh crap...what if...what...oh crap again..."

I like emo bands. *waits for people to attack*

The only thing that worries me is the album cover.

P!atD have a couple of good songs.

I'm still a bit worried about it, but some of the things that have been said about it sound really good. I'm just waiting until I hear it before I decide anything.

You people should leave this forum immediately.

My cousin thinks WYWY sounds way too Bruceyish as well...it's Brandon's voice that makes him not like it...

I hate being right sometimes. Let's hope I'm not right about the album.

Oh, and speaking of Influences and Panic!, MTV is advising Panic to stop making their videos look like Mr. Brightside knockffs.

Having heard more of Sam's Town, how do you all feel about their influences?

We've all heard the Bruce Springsteen in WYWY and the Michael Jackson in Where All The White Boys Dance. So what do you think?
