"All your thoughts of love draw you back to her and you wonder bitterly how you’ll screw things up this time. She seems to think you won’t, but you’ve been living with you longer than she has, and you know deep down you’re just an idiot at love.
For now, however, she stays and sleeps on silently as your fingers run up and over the goose-bumps on her arm, the length from the top of her shoulder blade to the edge of her wrist, so tantalizingly close to those hands that can assure you almost as much as her lips can that what you feel is love. Whether she’ll stay or go you’re not really sure, just like you’re not really sure it isn’t love, but you can tell from the loose grip her fingers have, curled around the side of your unbuttoned shirt, that she’ll be there in the morning and for now that’s more than enough.

"Julie looks away briefly, then meets her eyes, and tries to read them like a play—all action within the dialogue. All dialogue dictated by the action.
‘You aren’t anything like me,’ she says, and Cuddy’s spine uncurls. ‘His previous wife… and his wife before that… I guess I’m like them. You’re different.’ Julie’s voice drops but her gaze remains level. ‘He’s never liked different before.’
And she can’t resist rising to the bait: ‘James hates normalcy.’
And Julie simply smiles. ‘Maybe you aren’t so different after all.’ She starts to leave —the weight of the air too thick against her skin, the taste of her lips still fresh in her mouth— but stops at the door. ‘Do you really know anything about him? What foods he likes, his favourite movie? How many times he’s read The Great Gatsby?’ Julie shakes her head and Cuddy feels her legs go numb. Not because she doesn’t know, but because she does. Not because Julie’s making a point, but because she’s making the wrong one.
‘You don’t see him when he comes home at two am because he’s been working, because he’s been out drinking; you don’t see him after he’s ****ed another woman, and has the brass to tell you that he’s sorry. You don’t know him.’
Her stomach turns to acid and screams, throws a tantrum where it quivers and shakes, but out of sheer recalcitrance, Cuddy refuses to cry. The backs of her eyelids sting, but she doesn’t say she’s sorry.
She also doesn’t tell her that she’s wrong. She doesn’t ask her why she never asked, why he drinks at two am and why he works so hard. She doesn’t ask her if she knows that every life he’s saved and every life he hasn’t is burned into his memory. She doesn’t ask, and Julie doesn’t tell, because she doesn’t know."

"Ten steps down the hall he stopped and leaned against the wall. He tried to shake away the remnants of his conversation with House, but one thought continually floated back into his mind: I'm not going to do anything. I'm just gonna walk into her office and I'm gonna kiss her. He tipped his head back and tapped it against the wall over and over, trying to rid his mind of the idea. It didn't help.
He hated House. As annoying as he was, he could read people. And, apparently, he could read his friend the easiest. Wilson did want to march down to Cuddy's office and kiss her, but he couldn't bring himself to move. He was stuck to the wall, staring across the empty hallway, paralyzed by the way that Cuddy dominated his mind.
He clenched and unclenched his fists, trying to think of what House would do in this situation. He closed his eyes and shook that from his mind, because he knew what House would do. He would hire a hooker, which was not very high up on Wilson’s list of how to deal with a nonexistent love life.
That was just it, his love life was nonexistent. So many divorces and he was finally having trouble confronting his feelings. He took a deep breath; his mind made up, and pushed away from the wall.
He marched down the hall. He was on autopilot. His inhibitions were screaming from cages in the back of his mind, but he wasn’t going to listen. He made it to Cuddy’s office and stood at the door. She was just hanging up the phone and she hadn’t seen him yet. His mind told him that he could still back out, but he pushed the door open.
“Wilson,” she said when she looked up, the confusion registering on her face for a moment then being passed up for a small smile. He walked around her desk, took her hand, and pulled her to her feet.
“What are you…?” she started to ask, but he cut her off by placing his lips against hers in a soft kiss. He pulled away and stepped back, his self restraint finally catching up with him. He gazed at his feet for awhile, then he felt her hand on his cheek. He lifted his head and she smiled at him, and he smiled back."

"It was at this moment that Lisa decided to finally approach the topic of their relationship. She had to know, one way or the other, whether what happened was a one time thing, or possibly something more. “James,” she began slowly, “We need to…”
But before she could finish her statement, James began to respond, “Look Lisa, I don’t know about you but I don’t regret what happened last night.” He knew she was a little surprised that he had jumped in like that but she sat silently and waited for him to continue. He did continue but averted his gaze to floor, which was suddenly extremely interesting, as he said, “To be honest, you’ve been on my mind for a while now and I know my history with women isn’t great but I’m willing to give this a try,” he gestured between them with his hand, now moving his gaze back to meet hers. “I’m willing to give us a try, if you are.”
Lisa was speechless after James’s words and did the only thing she could think of to express her willingness to pursue a relationship with this man. Standing up from the chair, she crossed the kitchen floor and came to stand in front of James, a small smile playing across her face. Reaching up to wrap her arms around his neck she brought her lips up to meet his in a sweet, tender kiss that expressed her feelings better than any words ever could. Pulling back to look up into his eyes she said softly, “I’m willing to give it a try.”
