So I watched it. I thought it was ok. Dan was good and quite believable as were the other brit actors and Bill Paxton. But I can't help but complain about the embarrassingly bad American accents that came from the South African actors. It was so distracting how much you could see them try and fail with it. When this is shown in the US on tv it will most likely be slaughtered for this point. Add to that you could REALLY tell it was shot in South Africa and not LA and other parts of the US like Miami, Georgia. Its very obvious and once again the US viewers will know straight away. Perhaps they could fool UK views since it was a UK filming company who made and originally broadcast it but they won't be able to convince anyone else.

But Dan did well and especially towards the end when his character is feeling pretty low he does a great performance.

But this film has no chance at any BAFTAs or Emmys.

I have to watch it during the weekend, after I unpack and stuff. I'm glad to hear his and Bill's performances were good. I hope US critics overlook the accents and focus on the acting and the story.

Ok on second thought, I agree why would they try and substitute LA, NY and all with South Africa? No offense to the city of Capetown but it couldn't be more different. why not just film in those places?

I hope to see this at any rate, I have no doubt Dan and Bill did a great job with their characters.

I am glad that Bill's and his performances are good too. But yes I don't get why they substituted those cities for South Africa. I hope the critics overlook the bad accents too.

SA was probably waaaaaay cheaper to film in than NY or LA would be.

Shame this movie wasn't great. The subject matter was interesting enough.

The movie was fine. But gamers HATED it. They found it insulting to their intelligence. Meh, I can see both sides. They ARE super violent and don't reflect real society or race culture. But censorship against the creators is wrong too. Sam wanted a sex scene and still keep the rating they had for kids to play it (because statically they have the biggest sales market). He was greedy to want more than what society was willing to give. If you try to push the boundaries, you have to expect push back.

Art vs Morality. And nobody won the game.
