Best TV Show You’re Not Watching: Josh Holloway Gains Intelligence on CBS news provider Original | Jillian Smolinski, Originals

Created by Michael Seitzman and inspired by John Dixon’s novel Phoenix Island, Intelligence is CBS’ cyber-themed dramatic thriller starring Josh Holloway (Lost) as Gabriel Vaughn, a high-tech operative and the first ever human to get a super-computer microchip implanted in his brain. Due to his direct connection to the global information grid, Gabriel is considered a valuable asset who needs to be protected from outside threats at all costs. Enter CyberCom Defense Operations Center, the government agency responsible for keeping the U.S. and its interests safe, including the super spy with a computer chip in his head. Director Lillian Strand (Marg Helgenberger) assigns ex-Secret Service Agent Riley Neal (Meghan Ory) to keep the hotheaded and reckless Gabriel out of trouble. Rounding out Gabriel’s team is Dr. Shenendoah Cassidy (John Billingsley), the brilliant mind behind the microchip; Nelson (P. J. Byrne), Dr. Shenendoah’s son who is jealous of Gabriel’s relationship with his father; and federal investigator Chris Jameson (Michael Rady). Intelligence starring Josh Holloway airs on CBS Mondays at 10:00 pm ET/9c. Where You’ve Seen the Cast Before Josh Holloway, who stars as Gabriel Vaughn, is best known for his portrayal of Sawyer in Lost. His starring role in Intelligence marks the actor’s return to television after taking a break to make movies when Lost wrapped in 2010. Marg Helgenberger, who plays Lillian Strand, is best known for her 12-season portrayal of Catherine Willows on CSI. Meghan Ory, who plays Riley Neal, made her television debut in The Darklings and went on to star as Red Riding Hood/Ruby Lucas on Once Upon a Time. Michael Rady, who plays Chris Jameson, had starring roles in Emily Owens M.D. and the Melrose Place reboot. John Billingsley, who plays Dr. Shenendoah Cassidy, previously starred in The Others, Star Trek: Enterprise and The Nine. P.J. Byrne, who plays Nelson Cassidy, most recently starred as one of Leonardo DiCaprio’s faithful conmen in Martin Scorsese’s film The Wolf of Wall Street. Chuck + Person Of Interest + Almost Human + Six Million Dollar Man The whole idea of humans being plugged-in to critical information isn’t exactly anything new. Intelligence’s concept may stem from the novel Phoenix Island, written by John Dixon, but the series is more often compared to other television series. Creator Michael Seitzman considers Intelligence to be a modern-day spin on the 1970s classic sci-fi series The Six Million Dollar Man, while viewers are drawing comparisons to Chuck and current television series CBS’ Person of Interest and FOX’s Almost Human. Intelligence’s Gabriel Vaughn is basically a hotter more athletic version of Chuck’s Chuck Bartowski (Zachary Levi) minus the nerdy tendencies and quirkiness. Both series feature a super-spy main character with a computer program downloaded to his brain. Intelligence, Person of Interest and Almost Human all feature unlikely partners – one with special abilities – teaming up. Guest Stars The pilot episode of Intelligence introduces viewers to Jin Cong (Will Yun Lee) and Mein Chen (Faye Kingslee). Both characters will be back in guest starring capacities this season. Also appearing as guest stars this season is Peter Coyote (The 4400) as Lillian’s father and former CIA director, Laura Wiggins (Shameless) as Lillian’s daughter, Lance Reddick (The Wire, Fringe), Tania Raymonde (Cold Case), Annie Wersching (24) and Michael Trucco (Battlestar Galactica). Most-Watched Premiere of the Season Although ratings haven’t been quite as good in recent weeks, Intelligence just might have what it takes to avoid the mid-season blue screen of death and become a breakout hit for CBS. The series premiered back in January with 16.5 million viewers, making it the most-watch television premiere of the 2013-14 season.
