A bonus is watching Lost on TV. It was the first thing I bought here, a good TV so I could watch Lost! I hated the german dubbing anyway
I think the first 6 months may be the most difficult, trying to adapt to everything, later on you may get a bit nostalgic, but that's such a big experience, it's worth focussing on all the opportunities it gives you although 5 years does sound a huge, scary thing to imagine after only 2 months and a half. Have you already meet some new friends, or are you there with some people you already knew? That helps a lot.
Great move buying a TV! And I feel you about the dubbing - Italian dubbing is not bad, but once you listen to the original voices, it's hard to fully enjoy the show with their replacement.

If there are enough people interested in a German thread, one can totally be started.

It's really scary, but also fun because its so different. Learning something new everyday here I still don't know how to write a check properly, but I'm working on it!
I came he with a professor from Germany and a Post-Doc so together we're trying to find out everything we need to know. It's definitely much easier than doing it alone.

I saved up a little money before I came to the US and sold some of my stuff back home. you really need a TV, especially if your addicted to so many TV shows as I am.
What do you watch besides Lost?
So you're from Italy? Should have asked sooner, I was wondering when you told me your name

Ok, good to know *off looking for german people*

Spending some time in US has always been a dream of mine, and having years to pass there means you can really know the culture and the language properly, it's not your usual superficial experience in a foreign country you're merely visiting.
I'm glad you have at least someone to rely on.

I was a bigger TV addicted in the past, now I'm always behind with all the series. I blame Lost and how much the fandom has taken over my spare time, lol.
I watch House, Battlestar Galactica, Californication, Mad Men, Dexter... and I have a very long Must Watch list waiting for me, when I'll get over my laziness and look around for the episodes.
And yep, I'm Italian and living in Italy. And as you may have noticed, my English is not the best.

3 people would be ideal, but in the Italian thread now it's just me and another poster, so if you and Cat want the thread, 2 people can be enough.

Actually being here is a little different to dreaming about it... I really miss my friends back home... and I gave up a lot of my stuff, which was hard at first... but then getting to buy new stuff is also pretty cool.

I still have time to watch all my TV shows ... still have to watch Battlestar Galactica though... my former roommate says is great, but I left all the episodes back in germany... I guess I have to take them with me, when I get there to visit.

How often do you plan to go back home? Like, for Christmas or during the summer.

I'm behind with BSG, but that's the only show I willingly left aside because this is the last season, so I want to make it last a little longer... lol. I'm going to miss the show once I've seen the series finale, although for its plot 4 seaons are enough to not lose too much quality and consistency in the writing.

Thanks! But you probably just haven't had enough time to see how many mistakes I do every day.
Thought it's more comfortable to chat with other people who aren't native English speakers because you know they understand eventual typos and lines not so grammatically correct.

Lately several new posters have joined the board (or returned) so maybe more German fans are on their way.

4 seasons are just good enough for most tv shows, some should really stop after 4 years.

ok, so I will have to look here every time there is a post and then I can scout for my german thread

I'm glad you don't have to wait a full year to see your loved ones again, and you can visit this summer. Keeping in contact via mail and phone is just not enough, especially while you still have to adjust to not have them around.

I agree, usually around the fifth or sixth you see the writers starting to come up with stuff there only to spice the plot up but not doing a good service to the characters.
Rory stealing a boat anyone?

Besides you being a fellow European who can understand a typo or a mistake here and there , you really sound like a nice person, it's really easy to chat with you.
I have to say my English was horrid when I first joined this place, I never studied the language properly, just the basics. One good thing that joining the Lost fandom did to me was forcing me to improve my English, a bit at least.

As I said, if two person are ok with the thread, it can be started. Maybe more German people will see it and decide to join.

Going home during the summer is important to me this year. I think I can handle going back here after a vacation home. I also think I really need it, waiting for christmas is just too long.

great example with rory stealing the boat!!! that was really wrong, and lorelai and christopher were really bad

I love chatting with you so nice. what are you doing by the way, sometimes you up really late, huh?

I can understand perfectly.

Rory in the last seasons is just a completely different character from the Rory of the first ones. I would've even accepted that, the problem is that I didn't like the evolution the writers went for.
And Lorelai and Christopher... I never was a Luke/Lorelai shipper (liked them singularly and together, but that was it) and I didn't hate Christopher, but I have no idea how the whole Luke not making Lorelai part of his life could drive her to sleep with Chris. And marry him. And keep saying that she loved him.
That storyline damaged everyone.

Lost ruined my night/day schedule. I used to go to bed at normal hours, once, I swear. I'm allowing myself these slips because I'm not working at the moment. Real life will cure me from the addiction... hopefully soon, lol.

You can say that again! It definitely change my way of shipping couples... I try not to get into it as much... I'm about to stop watching One Tree Hill because I hate the authors to much right now... can't anyone be happy for a few episodes?? without the drama??

if it weren't for my roommate I would have stayed up too long for Lost too ... now I can watch it at a normal hour... but I still like to stay up late. What are you working as?
I'm so excited for tonight... can't wait for the day to be over... 11 hours to go... at least for me

Console yourself thinking that I was a Rory/Jess shipper - at least Luke and Lorelai ended the show as a couple, and in love with each other. Although it's true than when you have to bear too much madness, part of your enjoyinment gets killed for good, no matter if there is a sweet turn much later on.

I'm always been a night person more than a morning person - I get up if I have to, but the beauty to wake up at dawn every day is missed to me - but now that habit has taken a turn for the worst.
I'm working at trying to find a stable job! Which is ont exactly going too well at the moment.
I'm excited for tonight and at the same time I'm dreading the quadrangle back in play, lol. But I'm ready to take whatever is there, seeing it is better than waiting and wondering.

I'm also a night person. don't like early mornings.

uh, job hunt , I'm sorry you have to go through that. I bet that's no fun... good luck!!! for what kind of job are you looking for? maybe I can help

I'm very excited for tonight... 2 more hours to go for me... you have probably seen it already... I will be gone from FF the next 2 hours. I don't wanna read any spoilers.

To think Jess left because of a spin-off that went nowhere... argh. Honestly, the only thing I hold against the show is bringing him back only to have Rory use him trying to get back at Logan. My shipper heart had had enough when Rory slept with Dean, I doidn't need this, too.

Early morning are cool only if you're exciting about going somewhere.
Right now I'm not even looking at something in specific, I'm considering all the options as long as they give a decent paycheck , with the actual situation it's not time to get picky.
Against my better judgement, I stayed up yesterday night and saw the episode live, but I was feeling too tired, I have to rewatch it tonight because I honestly missed things here and there... my attention span was fighting againt tiredness.

poor you... shipping with rory was not really easy... rory was good for a while, but then she just got so weird. her sleeping with dean just didn't make sense to me... the real rory wouldn't do that, was always my opinion... and after that things just went downhill.. I always was more of a Lorelai fan because she was so funny and weird too... but she would always light up my day and sometimes I can compare myself to her. ok except for the last 2 seasons... I didn't understand that woman there...

yeah I guess you're right. you can't get picky now. I really with you good luck! My dad told me today that he's happy that I don't depend on him right now, because he sees that everything is going downhill at the moment. my brother only works half of the month now, so he gets less money and my mom isn't really paid at all right now... so it's just so hard.
I'm happy I got a stable job at the university. it's only part time, but I can finance my apartment, buy groceries and even the flight back to germany in summer. so i'm good. I got really really lucky!

it's hard to stay up that late. i was expecting a little too much in that episode. "LaFleur" was way better... ... rewatching is always good, especially with "Lost"!

It wasn't really the sleeping with Dean the first time what hurt (although, well, it did, because Jess had just asked her to live with him, and although his suggestion was absurd, seeing the two things one after the other kind of broke my tiny heart) but the fact that in the end Rory didn't even want Dean all that much, she just used him because he was safe and familiar... and kept pretending all was cool with the fact that Dean still didn't know what to do with his wife. Then Lofan arrived, and things got even weirder, lol.
Lorelai was great, but she had always had this tendency to react immaturely when it came to love... I still remember her running away from the wedding with Max.

I'm sorry that your family is going through some difficult times - so your mom is still working but she doesn't know when she'll get paid? That's hard. Everyone is saying next year thngs should get better, so here is hope.
At least you found this great opportunity and are doing the best with it!

I'm reading some reviews of the episode and a couple of times I had to say, "Huh, when did this happen?", especially for the scenes with Ben/Sun/Fran and flight 316. I was super awake only during the Sawyer moments. Nope, I'm not biased.
