Josh in "The Brig" (3.19) Episode Discussion

Quote:
After abandoning the Others, Locke takes Sawyer on a trek through the jungle to help him eliminate a common enemy. Meanwhile, back at the beach, the parachutist Naomi has crucial information about flight 815.
Lost airs Wednesday 2nd May on ABC at 10/9c .

I am so looking forward to the Locke and Sawyer scenes, they are among the more interesting characters IMO and it will be good to see what happens when Locke comes back from his time away.

From Shawna Malcom, Tv Guide:
Quote:
This TV Guide reporter lucked into getting an advance copy of "The Brig," tonight's Locke-centric episode of Lost (10 pm/ET on ABC), and, having watched it, what can I say? It's one of the series' best. And I'm not just talking this season. Written by series masterminds Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse, it is, by turns, twisted, spine-chilling and emotionally stirring. Make that gut wrenching. It grabs hold and doesn't let go, even after the last frame has smashed to black.

Josh Holloway and Terry O'Quinn knock this episode out of the park.
The whole article is slightly spoilerish.

I'm so worried and excited about tonight to the point thet's ridicolous. And yesterday night i dreamed of Locke killing Sawyer and I end up sleeping only 2 hours. The person i have been talking with this morning probably thought i was under the effect of soem drug considering my lack of focus, lol.

Thanks!
I've only read the "good" and "not so great" comments at the end, and he doesn't seem to have liked The Brig too much. But he gave 5 stars to D.O.C. and I didn't understand the reason of such a high vote when I saw the episode, so...

Everything James in this episode OWNED! All the Locke/Ben stuff left me more confused than anything else. I know some people were worried it would be all about Locke, but that wasn't the case. The spotlight was on James. His emotional scenes rocked me at my core. I was shaken and fascinated all at once.

Those Emmy people would be complete idiots to overlook Josh this year. He's so frakking worthy it ain't funny.

Josh did shine in the episode.

Ben wanted Locke to know , where to find the tape recorder, that can't be good for the Lostaways.

It was weird watching an entire episode.

Josh was stellar in this episode, in the confrontation with Sawyer... his body language, his eyes... and the look after he had killed the man and Locke opened the door? God, I was tearing up there, and I was spoilered. But I think where I loved him the most was when James attacked Locke at the beginning of the treck, the way his voice cracked, yelling "Why me?", and then the "Don't call me James!". Josh rocked this episode. Terry O'Quinn and Micheal Emerson were good, but Josh was at his best.

My random-points re-cap (it's a blessing that my connection came back in time to watch this episode):
- James is back in his personal hell full force. I felt so bad when I saw him throwing up, and I have no idea how he's going to deal with what happened in the Black Rock, considering his already existing self-hatred. Once again someone has used him, once again someone conned him. *I* am totally ok with what he did: the way that bastard provoked him... I would have hit Sawyer already when he stopped reading and said "bla bla bla". He showed no remorse, not a bit, otherwise James wouldn't have killed him. How many times during the episode we were reminded that he didn't want to kill anybody: when Locke showed up at the beginning, during the treck, just before he entered the room with Sawyer locked in. The way that man talked about the "poor life" of his mother (wasn'0t her name Brooke in Outlaws? o_O ), how he seemed to not care about nothing and mocked James for his desire of revenge, for taking his alias. He was just a monster, and I hope James will see how different he is from that miserable human being.
- Is it wrong that I can't be mad/shocked with Locke? I mean, he's weak, he's obsessed, perhaps he's wacko. But everything he did in this episode was totally in character for him. His father stole his kidney, conned him making him lose Hellen, but he never had the guts to give up on him. So, no surprise he wasn't able to do the job by himself, and used Sawyer, just like he was pursuing his own agenda when he blew up the submarine and leave Kate & co. behind to join the Others. Perhaps in his mind, he thought that killing Cooper was going to free Sawyer from the past too, open him up to his own journey. But this could be only wishful thinking: he needed his father gone to finally start his "special path", screw the rest and what he had to do to get there. Locke put James back in his personal hell, but he was nothing less than the Locke we've been seeing all this season. And it's pathetic for him that Ben is illuding and conning him big time, I'm sure.
- I agree with Maria: Ben is conning Locke and the Losties: he made sure Locke caught him listening at Juliet's tape, and saw where he put it.
Spoiler:
I really hope once Jack and Juliet's plan is reveled in episode 21, Ben's move is going to be neutralized and the Losties will all start to collaborate together to protect the camp and fight the Others.

- My favourite light moment of the episode: Hurley going to Sayid, and the way he stopped digging after he got that Hurley was there with a purpose. I'm weird, I know, but it cracked me up. And Sayid is love.
- I like Naomi, lol. She's way more interested than Nikki and Paulo, a part of me would like to see her sticking around, even if the other side is still bitching about the introduction of new characters.
- Suspicious!Desmond is love.
- What the hell is wrong with Kate?! She hit a record: for the first time in three seasons, she managed to annoy me in every single second she was on screen. I don't save anything this time. She's still holding back with James, and thinking just about herself, her inner conflicts, her fears. And it hurts to see how much involved and mature is Sawyer around her. And IMO, she's not going to be able to be of any help to pull Sawyer out of the psychological and emotional mess he'll be in in the near future. Dear Kate, go grow a spine, then decide what you want, and only then go to Sawyer again. I hope we won't see any afternoon/night delight for a while. she can't have a relationship or whatever she has now with James only ruled by her needs and preferances. Next time, I want him to turn her down if nothing will be cleared between them before.
Oh, and great, she managed to betray Sayid, the man who risked his own a** so help her just a couple of days ago. Way to go, Kate. I really hope when I read InsiderScoop brief synopsis that there was another motive behind her action, like Naomi needing medical help. But no, she just felt she had to report to the Boss. Ugh!!!
- The episode made me a strong anti-Jacket. What, now even Juliet is starting to not question Jack's great, ultimate decisions? At least it took a season and a half to bring Kate there. Save Juliet from Jack. Because I got that he has a plan, but he's acting like a patronizing, I-know-it-all jerk anyway and he did that with both women ast the end of the scene, and I'm sure there was no real reason, since Juliet was ready to talk to Kate about her and Black Hole's secret, adn knowing Juliet, she wouldn't have if there was a big danger to ruin something letting someone else know what was going on.

Josh deserves an Emmy nomination, period. If I weren't a fan of his already, I would've become one after The Brig.

ETA - I'm still totally clueless about why James was barefoot in this episode.

James was barefoot because he took of with Locke but before that he got outside just to pee. He didn't took the shoes just for that and he forgot about it as soon as he saw Locke.

You are so right about everything you said. I couldn't say it better.
As I remember, Charlie said to Jack that they came back early in the morning, so Kate spend almost the whole night in Sawyer tent. I don't judge her that she left (altough she could sleep the whole night when they where in the cage) but I don't understand why she had to go to Jack to tell him about what Sayid told her not to.

Yeah, I'm quite perplexed about that as well. What was the point? And they kept emphasizing on it too.
