Okay, that atrocity can be banished from my mind forever.

I think my faith in the writers blew up along with the hatch at the end of S2.

Hey, I was in peril the entire summer wondering if Eko made it. Then he died five episodes later.

It sucked. And I have yet to understand the meaning of his death.
But at least they didn't play with our emotions when they killed him off. It went way worse for Charlie and Michael. With Eko, they were forced to get rid of the character.

Don't even remind me about Michael. I rewatched the finale last night and got pissed off all over again.

My personal theory is that they expected Michael's return to get more attention and positive responses from the fans, and when that didn't happen, they used their old dear "plan B", kill the character off. A friend of mine though keep saying that his return and death seemed to be a response to the audience's desire to see Michael punished for what he did in S2, and it felt like he was brought back for that.

Did Darlton say something about Michael dying so that the people on the island weren't killed or something like that.

That's my take on it as well. It was very much pandering to the fans and Harold deserved better. He wasn't a newbie that just signed on for a few episodes in S4. The show took off with HP as a member and he should've been shown more respect as an original lostie.

Nobody even cares that Michael died. I never thought that would happen.

I guess most people couldn't get past the fact that he killed two women and released Ben.

Libby and Ana Lucia?! Nobody gave a frak about them! That's why they were killed off to begin with. Michael did us a favor.

I think you're right. Not only was he willing to kill someone innocent (even if she was hated) to save his son, he then gave up four of his friends who might have had to face the same fate. So maybe they were addressing that particular crime. I find it sad though that the "Island" seems to use people for what it wants, and then tosses them away as if they were disposable. The Island will let you die when it's done with you, isn't that what they say?

Also, I know people kept asking about Michael and if he'd ever been seen again, and complaining that main characters were being killed off, so I think they thought the audience would enjoy seeing one of the main Losties again, one everyone used to love. I don't think they did his time justice though, but I did enjoy his flashback. Still is a chance he'll live on as a ghost on the Island. I think they'll be taking a more prominent role these last two seasons. We might just see most of the Losties back.

Maria, D&C commented on Micheal's death and in response to Harold's interview about it, I don't remember what they said exactly, I'll have to look around for it.

I might be cynical, but I think it has nothing to do with Michael's crimes but more with how much symphaty the audience already felt for the character, regardless of the crime - I was among the very few people who was very upset and saddened by Ana'a death. He did what he did for his son, Ben is a mass murderer and got the freighter and all the people on it to explode for nothing but personal revenge, and people keep praising how cool it was and how great his "So?" line sounded.

I hated that too, immensely. Is this the concept of redemption they have? It's sad indeed, Michael was forced to do the right thing because the "quicker" solution (suicide) was taken out of his hands... it cheapened the whole storyline.
